However, this place is built upon it's community spirit. It's been less than a week and look at how many people are visiting.
Definately. But you can do that (be built on community spirit, and that's an aim here) and not be the ghost of gonegold.

Agree. But I hope this place never forgets that it's a dwarf standing on the shoulders of a giant.

Has anyone else noticed how much more traffic EBG and R&P get more than the PC (and especially the Console) forums?

They did at GG, too.

If this had happened a month ago for the releases of Sims2, Kohan2, RTW, etc., you'd see a ton more traffic in the pc games colymn.

I'm pretty sure that was true on GG as well.

Wait until HalfLife2 and WoW hit - then those forums will get busy.

They did at GG, too.
Gonegold's distinct eras:

Early Days: no traffic to speak of. ;)

Note Quite Early Days: Joel comes on to do the hotsheet. I register, because I'd been reading his Gaming column and had contact with him on usenet, and he mentioned it to me in an email.

Not much traffic. But it starts to pick up. Just 3 forums (GiG, GBT, EBG).

GiG does the most traffic, followed by GBT.

Expansion!:

Things get big enough to where we need to expand the forums, bring on mods.

Traffic: Gig, GBT, EBG. But things are picking up.

Consoles forum debuts at some point. Mediocre traffic.

Explosion!

EBG gains on, then passes first GBT, then GiG. Meghan makes sure to rub this in my face.

Consoles traffic becomes solid then good.

Modern Era:

GiG becomes by far the most trafficed forum. GBT still does alot, and of course eventually RTG is split off. Traffic in GBT doesn't slow down, but RTG takes off nicely. GiG still does solid, but the glory days are over.

EBG is very crowded as well, and split off. Traffic is probably: EBG, then GBT then R&P, RTG, Consoles (all pretty close together), GiG bringing up the rear (not far back though).

I remember migrating from GIG over to EBG. It was very strange seeing and posting all of these no PC related posts in EBG and then group think kind of just pushed us right to where we belonged. There was a little hemming and hawing about not getting their post seen by a broad enough audience in EBG, but it was mostly painless.

You know, I like the way that this site may be heading with the unique review system and such, but I must say that these threads don't seem overly inviting. I guess I'm in the wait and see category. Hopefully everything goes well with this site's development!

For the record (and don't take this as me looking to steal anyone or anything bizzaro-world like that) Console Gold has already begun work in expanding the infrastructure of our system to incorporate PC and have already begun work in sketching out a full scale assault on getting PC gaming up to the point where our console gaming coverage is today. In fact, on the 27th I'm making a special trip out to Activision to see and preview Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, a PC-ONLY title as a good way of kicking this all off. You can no longer say that just because you don't own a console you don't have a place at Console Gold. That just isn't valid. I will step out on a limb and say that my moderation style isn't the best judge of business as usual at Console Gold (although we are less tolerant of asshattery than some) and more mods are being brought on so I can take a more hands-off approach and get back to doing...whatever the hell it is that I do.

All that said, I think what has been set up here is a good start. With enough time, perhaps it will turn into what PD and the rest of the crew envision it to be, so I'll wish them the best of luck.

I think I'd rather be at a forum which focuses on one thing than to be at a forum which is trying to do perhaps too much by branching. I hope the focus of these forums will always be PC Games.

We are now.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

We are now.
What will your wife say about you having hot gay sex? Your relationship with Smoove does not count as historical record for obvious reasons.

So I'm sitting out on the whole hot gay sex thing, but when if it comes around to hot intergender no strings attached sex, could someone please let me know.

I apologize for the confusion. I wasn't implying that *I* was going to be involved in the hot, gay sex. I was implying that we are now here for Meghan to have hot, gay sex.

Sirs and Madames - I appreciate your support in promoting hot gayness!

There seems to be some confusion as to what exactly this will entail. Just so we're all on the same hot gay page, allow me to quote the immortal Erik
just so you don't think we're shallow, let us assure you that when it comes to scorching hot gayness, sex isn't all we're interested in. Hot gay cuddling, hot gay chat, hot gay teen chat, hot gay pokemon battles, and commited hot gay heterosexual relationships are just some of the many hot gay activities in which we participate on a regular basis. So when your spider sense starts to tingle, remember: we're not judging anyone for being gay but simply, in our opinion, for not being gay enough. We hope that clears things up.
