I'm sure this has been answered but I can easily Isgrm said answer. How do we confirm our purchase goes through the Link? I've been buying. I see the octooverl link but when I go to search for stuff the tag goes away.

Is there a proper order I should be following?

Last year (or the year before)when I wondered about this also, a list of all the purchases was posted and everything I had bought was on the list so I assume it is still working the same.

We forgot to pay our dues last year. A donation will be coming this month.

Would it be possible to include the Canadian Amazon link in the forum header along with the current link? I'd be happy to use it, but I'd also be far more likely to remember to use it if it was in my face, just a little bit.

Addendum: Trying to use URLs with my feeble post count apparently looks bad, and makes me feel bad.

I see the holiday reminder is back - and that's a good thing, but is it possible to tone down the color a bit? On the dark themes it is intensely bright white.

Unfortunately background colour doesn't appear to be an option.

Amazon Associates may earn referral fees by sending traffic to smile.amazon.com or www.amazon.com.
So, in theory just switch the URL in the affiliate link to smile.amazon.com.

On a related note I just spent a stupid amount on amazon for Christmas. Enjoy your tiny slice OO.

Just used the amazon.ca link in the banner to order a monitor. How can we confirm that OO is getting its slice? My apologies if this has been asked before (or many times).

I don't think I've ever seen anything from Amazon.ca, but I will take a look (they are smart enough to not let me get a cut on my own purchases.. jerks).

I'm not seeing anything, but maybe it takes a bit to post. Plus there was a lot less purchasing on the US side as well (a couple hundred bucks lower than normal for black friday/Christmas shopping). Still think we should be ok for the year, I can make up the difference if there's a delta.

Oh, it was a market seller, not Amazon itself. That might be it.

Amazon pulled my affiliate account (along with whatever $ was pending payment) due to a terms of service violation in that "You cannot directly use Amazon to support your site - it must be done through products mentioned and linked directly to Amazon".

I think it's pretty fucking ridiculous, but what do I know - I am evaluating cheaper options for servers and we are trying to spitball a way to keep this place self funded.

Would it be possible to set up an actual "front page" to OO and either have direct mentions or links to the forums where we are talking about vacuums, video games, board games, couches, etc...

Is that something they'd consider appropriate use? I mean, we're talking about this stuff here and making (as you note) legit links to products (music and Kindle books in particular). The front page would really just be a phantom page that is generated using scripts that post links and images to amazon products based on what we're talking about?

If I had the technical know-how I'd help with that. All I can do is offer to continue to shamelessly plug video and board games.

Thanks just got that, much appreciated.

My mother just passed away last week, so I'm still dealing with the aftermath of that. I've renewed with OVH (@150/mth) that should take us to Oct 21st. Before then I will get a SoYouStart server online (probably around $80) and figure out migration stuffs. So sometime mid October we will have some downtime as I migrate the database. We can make this work.

Now I just need to figure out how to de-incetivize people from shopping at Amazon ;) Pricks.

Please set up a service - maybe Patreon or some such - that allows us to subscribe. I'm poor people, and I still wouldn't hesitate to kick in $5/month. OO has given me way too much for me not to give back.

And if I can do it, so can 22 others.

Yep, was also going to suggest Patreon or a similar service.

For now if things get tight just let us know and I can kick in using the paypal link.

EDIT - I see now after clicking the PayPal link that you can set monthly contributions there. I'll do so unless we find another funding mechanism.

It would be really good to have some way to see the current number of subscribers. I wouldn't want anything visible (a list, special avatar, whatever), just a current count so that we could know how well we're covered.

We could!

But I generally dislike both the 'pressure to join' and the resulting elitism that sort of thing usually brings. I'm much happier with anonymous donations.

I put in a donation to the paypal site. Don't hesitate to send me a PM if I miss that we need more funds. Not that I have tons of extra cash, but I can not go out to dinner once a month and give it here. :)
