Links don't open in a new window.

Post by Rumpy »

Used to be, you'd click on a link and it would open in a new window. Now if you click on a link, if you don't specifically open it in a new window, you'll just go to the site, leaving the forum behind, which is more of a tabless behavior. I think we lost something during one of the updates.

Still open in a new window for me at work with IE 6 and subsilver. What browser are you using and what theme?

I've never had it open a new window (or tab) by default in either firefox or IE. I always ctrl-click or right click>new tab.

Old behavior works fine for me in Chrome using prosilver.

Tell us about it. They can't build a decent 3G network let alone update their Hired Lawslinger's computers. :horse:

I'd prefer it the way you describe.

If I want to open a link in the same window I'm on, I should be able to just click it.
If I want to open a link in a new tab, I hold CTRL while clicking on it.
If I want to open a link in a new window, I hold SHIFT while clicking on it.

Using the latest version of Firefox. Used to always open new links in a new tab, but now it doesn't do that. It just goes straight to the link. Something about the latest update.

What theme are you using for the site? Browser and theme are always important to identify, especially after an update.

[edit]FWIW, using the latest Firefox at home with subsilver, and it's still opening links into a new tab for me.[/edit]

I knew I was missing something, yet I did the same mistake twice lol. I'm using Black Pearl.

I'm also using Black Pearl and Firefox. I just did some experimenting, and "naked" links will open in a new tab, but tagged links will open in the same tab. I've actually seen the same behavior on Forumplanet.
wot?

This recently started happening to me sometime in the last week as well. Black Pearl on Firefox 3.5. It may correspond to a point upgrade on Firefox or something, but I can't be sure.

It's a Black Pearl issue. The one fix I put it didn't seem to have an effect. I'll try to look into it again.

Interesting. Thanks for doing the experimenting. Wouldn't have known it was the case.

Redundant info, but IE6 and subsliver2 and links open in a new window for me.

IIRC, works fine at home in Chrome and Firefox and subsilver2.

External links should now open properly in an new window when clicked in BlackPearl. Sorry it took so long. Been slammed at work and phpBB was acting...oddly.

My preference would be a new tab, but I normally Ctrl-click anyway...

As far as I know, it's up to the browser how to handle the target attribute. I believe it's a preference for new windows to open in tabs in Firefox (if that's what you're running).

Since this latest update, same behavior as described above on the same setup.
