Poll test

Post by LawBeefaroni »

Just a test to see how this works, not trying to prove anything. I don't recall seeing a poll like this.

Vote only once for each pairing (if you vote for both options it's just nullifying your vote anyway), feel free to abstain from any paring.

Matchup 1: Who is hotter?
Liz Hurley
Some broad.

OR

Andy Rooney
Uptrending in Google metrics, and his middle name is kind of like Anaken.

Matchup 2: Which is the best bulding?
Frieder Burda Collection Museum, Baden-Baden, Germany
It's baden-baden, you know it!

OR

Bigelow Chapel, New Brighton, Minn.
Holy moly!

Matchup 3: Who has the brighest future?
Boeing
Big ole jet Dreamliner

OR

Airbus
Big ole A-380

Ok, so the percentages are a problem but otherwise it seems to work. Discussion could get confusing.

Oh, and here's what inspired this poll.

Potential problem. I just selected the first three options, so I voted for Liz Hurley, Andy Rooney, and Baden-Baden. I don't know that it's a huge deal (if someone votes for both options in the same poll, they just cancel themselves out), but it might get confusing when looking at overall numbers.
That's my purse! I don't know you!

Since they cancel out, I'd just assume that matchup #1 got more participation.

Looking at XVY results, some contests were more popular than others.

Eliminating ILB's vote pattern problem (which is also how I voted):
  • Chose one option:
  • Hurley/Frieder Burda/Boeing
  • Hurley/Frieder Burda/Airbus
  • Hurley/Bigelow/Boeing
  • Hurley/Bigelow/Airbus
  • Rooney/Frieder Burda/Boeing
  • Rooney/Frieder Burda/Airbus
  • Rooney/Bigelow/Boeing
  • Rooney/Bigelow/Airbus
New issue: no ability to abstain.

In either case, the issue regarding confusing thread conversation is real, and the largest issue IMO. 4-polls a day would not be onerous in the current incarnation of EBG.

Buh? There's no requirement to check any of the boxes. And I can even hit the link to see where the results are without voting.

Unless you're talking about abstaining from one of the three matchups, in which case, IGNORE ME!
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Not sure what you're getting at here.

I'm not lobbying one way or the other, just putting the theory into practice.

And I'm sure you can abstain. There were 5 votes at one point.

The "new" issue in my way of voting, that is. Apology for the confusing created by my curt post.

That was me. I purposely abstained from picking either option in the last pair.

The poll doesn't have any way of distinguishing if you've skipped a pairing or not chosen the max number of options from a coherent list of things to vote on. So of course it works.
wot?

I'll point out that you helped make it look 'clear' by having 3 contests that were not alike.

Who's hotter,best building, brightest future.

If all three of those read:

Who's Hotter:
Bubba over John
John over Bubba
Betty over Jill
Jill over Betty
Jackie over Sally
Sally over Jackie
Sam over Bob
Bob over Sam

That may have not looked so nice.

Well, and you help make it unclear.

You could do it like this:

Who wins:
Matchup 1: Bubba
Matchup 1: John
Matchup 2: Betty
Matchup 2: Jill
Matchup 3: Jackie
Matchup 3: Sally
Matchup 4: Sam
Matchup 4: Bob

Instead of "matchup #" you could have the arena name or whatever.

Again, I'm not saying it's the solution. I just wanted to see how it looked in an actual poll.

What about just linking to some non-OO polling site like survey monkey? I'm sure that was mentioned before, but maybe I'm dreaming.

I don't think people would participate if they had to leave the forums. The poll in this thread seems pretty effective, and hard to screw up.
