I patched the kernel, and the board had a notice up briefly before the reboot. Reboot took awhile (15 mins) due to a stuck grub loader screen, had to wait on a tech to kick it. It was kicked. Spectre is patched.

When the kernel is patchy, you have to check if you've loaded boots for the grubs, so that they can kick the techs. All goes well, and the patchy kernel will be planted and grow into a healthy Spectre. That's when you'll notice the notice.
