Set it board wide to 250 messages.. Let me know if you close in on that, want to keep a limit in there in case a spambot gets in and takes crazy pills.

When I was running forum games, I created a folder specifically for those PMs. It was the same size as (but separate from) my inbox. So you could possibly create a bunch of subfolders to store all your stuff in if you ever run up against the limit again.
