Re: CR <3 Heroscape
yup, heroscape is almost impossible to find around here now, it used to be I could price shop between target, wal-mart and toys-r-us, now the only thing all 3 carry is the Marro master set and only wal-mart ever has the figures. None of them have the large expansions (jungle and oversized figures). I just ordered the jungle this morning as I needed to fill out a hasbro order for free shipping. 5 more years until my son is old enough to play *chuckle*.

The Walmart by me has a bunch of the Figure Packs (Swog Rider, Knights; 7th Mass and Wolves) on sale for $5 a pack.

The latest rumor now is that WalMart will be carrying Wave 9, which is supposed to be out this summer. I asked the Toy Dept. manager to order for me two sets of the Ticalla Jungle, we'll see if that happens...

I've been having serious thoughts about liquidating my entire Heroscape collection. I just don't play any longer. Last time I played was at the first OctoCon a year and a half ago. The only think keeping me from pulling the trigger is that I could see my son really getting into it in about three years or so.

Mine just went up to the attic this weekend. I never actually played it with anyone anyhow. Someday my son will be old enough to play it and I'll pull them back out if we aren't playing with holograms by then.hentzau wrote:I've been having serious thoughts about liquidating my entire Heroscape collection. I'll have to be checking that out. Good news if wave 9 is going to hit the stores. I've been pretty distressed about the lack of availability in brick & mortar stores.

Anyone interested in the upcoming D&D themed Master Set 3? Sounds pretty cool to me, though I think 10 figures is a bit skimpy. Maybe we'll see some dungeoneering like some of the home-brew rules seen on Heroscapers.com.

I'll pick it up when it comes out. If nothing else just so maybe WoC will keep producing more waves of expansions.
Having said that, I'm not sure how I feel about D&D in the Heroscape world. And it seems kinda cheap of WoC...they're not really coming up with anything new with this...

I'll buy it because that's what I do. Someday I'll even play it. I figure 3 or 4 more years until my son can handle it. He still has some issues with Chutes and Ladders.

[quoteHEROSCAPE WAVE 10 CHAMPIONS of RENOWN =]Sir Hawthorne’s blade cuts deep. But when the battle has ended, who’s back will bear the wound? Nerak and his Glacial Swog stalk the frozen battlefields of the icy north. His presence is inspiring, and his guttural commands keep every grut sharp and focused. The Elite Onyx VIpers seethe forward with inhuman speed. The arrows of their enemies sail by them, always missing. They are legend! Unique Army Pack. Contents: 5 painted figures and 5 army cards[/quote]
Promo reissue... nifty.

I miss playing Heroscape. it's the perfect beer and pretzels game. unfortunately, there are so many games out there these days that it's tough to keep playing just one. as soon as i start enjoying a game, another cooler one hits the shelves and my gaming ADD takes over.
He won. Period.

Re: CR <3 Heroscape
That's sort of what happened to me and HS. HS was basically my inroads back into gaming after a long, long hiatus. I played the typical boardgames when I was a kid but eventually started branching off into things a little more off the beaten path. Eventually I got interested in computers and the boardgame thing stopped for years.
A while back, when Gonegold was still around, I met up with a guy (Derek) who I discovered was local and I started joining in on LAN game sessions at his pad with friends and family. We did this for a few years, until we got invited to play Heroscape (when it first debuted) with Derek's brother and son. It ended up being ridiculous fun, Derek's first foray into boardgaming and a rekindling of my own interests. The regularity of our LAN sessions petered out quickly after that, with the gap being filled instead by long boardgaming weekends. We've been boardgame crazy ever since...
...went pretty nuts with Heroscape too for a while. I bought everything I could get my hands on starting with wave 1 and ending sometime around 3.5 I think (the first large-figure expansion, with the bone dragon). As much fun as we had for a while, we both hit the wall with HS around the same time. D kept buying new stuff beyond 3.5 and we'd attempt to play every once in a while, but the sheer amount of figures turned what used to be an enjoyably easy drafting process into a tedious affair. Meanwhile I kept trying new games and eventually the simple dice-driven (read: dominated) gameplay of Heroscape left me wanting more.
The stuff languishes on my shelf now, but it was fun while it lasted.

Assuming Derek is who I think he is, how come he don't play no more? Especially during the summer, when he is presumably not teaching. We really need to make Detroit version of Octocon and get some of these guys out of their cubbyholes... Bob.

Re: CR <3 Heroscape
He gets out a lot less frequently now that he's teaching. 3 kids, 6 cats, and a lot of other junk are keeping him busy. We usually have 3 or 4 weekend-long game sessions a year, along with hitting Gencon, but that's about it.
Drive time is also an issue for him - he's had to turn down invites to game a number of times just because it doesn't make sense to drive an hour and a half one-way for a few hours of gaming.
I'm all for the Octocon idea, and I'd even volunteer to get it set up but this next semester is gonna be brutal. I'd probably be able to attend but the planets will need to align for that to happen.

Re: CR <3 Heroscape
So, Heroscape fans, guess what I got my grubby little hands on today?
The first expansion release for the D&D set, D1, which also happens to be the 11th expansion for Heroscape. I was able to get all four packs and am happy to share them with you. Enjoy!
Glaun Bog Raiders
Greenscale Warriors, Greater Ice Elemental, Drow Chainfighter
Fury of the Primordials
Fire Elemental, Air Elemental, Wyvern, Water Elemental, Earth Elemental
Warriors of the Ghostlight Fen
Phantom Knights, Sauhaugin Raider, Fen Hydra
Heroes of Faerun
Brandis Skyhunter, Sharwin Wildborn, Torin (cyclpos), Mogrimm Forgehammer, Estivara
Each pack also includes a new item glyph.

Nice! It would probably be easier to unload in bulk, but I can tell you that the Ice set and the Road to the Forgotten Forest are going to probably be your biggest sellers if you start carving it up. I should be evil and send your picture to my buddy. He'd probably snatch it all.

Re: CR <3 Heroscape
I sent the guy that picture and his response was "Oh wow. Where do you live and how much would you want? I could pay shipping."
The main positives to dumping it is that I get the space back for more games. My wife is starting to complain about the space I am using now and it's not like I am going to stop buying games... the use of heroscape does not justify the space it takes up.
I just don't want to get totally ripped off in the process.

Assuming those are all singles... add 15 for each duplicate set of the wave units.coopasonic wrote:What I have:
Basic resale for most should be about 15 each. Some are popular (sadly you don't have wave 9, the big hitter)Spoiler:
That's rough, but some of the individual squads go for extra.
Biggest hitters are the Tundra set and the Jungle set. Only thing higher is the box with Zelrig, Sujoah, WoSaGa, GuraiOni, and Zetacron... those run 200.
