Just the other day a friend and I were trying out Tribes: Vengeance multiplayer for the first time by ourselves, just 1 on 1, messing with the weapons and learning how the game worked. One go-round He ended up flying around in one of those big assault vehicles and I was in a fighter. We had a pitched battle for about 15-20 seconds, flyin around taking shots at each other. I ended up taking him out, and his ship exploded so cataclysmically, with his body going flying out, that we both started laughing our ASSES off. One of the cool things about "discovering" a new game with a friend.

Not one of my all-time favorites probably, but one of the better ones of late.

wow, too many to mention. :P I've done so much Ghost Recon MP with the GG crew, we got alot of memories. 8) A few that stick out in my head?

1) We were playing GR co-op, and most of us had broken off into two-man teams. I had Owain with me, and I rounded a corner around a freight container. Off in the distance I saw Metalhed and his partner moving towards a door. Owain rounds the corner after me, see's guys moving in the distance, gets a little trigger happy, and pops Metalhed. MH's partner turns towards us, sees me on point, figures I shot MH, and kills me. I drop, Owain see's the MH's partner and they both fire simultaneously, killing each other, and we all wind up back at the respawn thinking "WTF just happened?"

2) some of the best times we had were right after an expansion was released. you get the new maps that no ones played before, so everyones just a bit more cautious, because no one knows whats around the next corner. Anyone thats played GR with me, knows I like the weapons that go boom instead of bang. The Island thunder expansion added an MM1 40mm Grenade Launcher  There's nothing more satisfying that letting loose with the MM1. hearing that thump and then watching the grenade arc out and strike near an area...The resulting kill-spam is priceless. :)

3) The Harntrox mod added some very nice maps and missions indeed. Some we didn't play very often, but there was one, it took place almost entirely inside a helicopter orbiting an island. you had to fire out the doors on the enemies who ran for boats/cover/whatever. Everyone else (All two of them) took MG's and rifles. I took an MM1. After their ammo had more or less been expended we found the mission wasn't quite over yet...and it fell upon me to eliminate the last remaining pockets of fighters. I step up to the door, and we noticed four rebels running for a zodiac on the beach. "You'll NEVER hit a moving Zodiac from a moving helicopter with that thing" they tell me. I balked. I'm the MAN with the MM1. Besides, I don't need to *hit* the zodiac, I just need to get it *near* the zodiac. I let the zodiac run up to speed, estimate the lead I'll need, and then <Thump> a 40mm care package is sent on it's way. It was surreal, watching this 40mm grenades travel. They're saying "He'll never hit it"..."Looks like he might get close enough to kill one or two"..."I think he might get near it"...<Little explosion and bloom of smoke in the middle of the zodiac. 4 rebels die a horrible agonizing death and are thrown from the zodiac in all directions>..."Holy shit he hit it!" I landed that sucker right smack dab in the middle of a fast moving zodiac from the door of a helicopter moving in the opposite direction. :P

4) Extolling the Virtues of Teamspeak, and getting others to use it, proved to be a bit daunting in the early stages. Feeling that it was invaluable as a tool for communicating and co-ordinating with teammates, we figured a little demonstration was needed. It was Trey, ChrisGrenard and I on the Teamspeak team, and three others on a non-TS team. We were playing one of GR's hostage rescuse scenarios. (basically, the map begins with three hostages in the center, the teams have to rush to save them by bringing them back to thier capture point. You can also "steal" hostages from your enemies capture point) We started out badly, losing the race to the hostages when we rushed out into the open and our cover got dropped. When the dust settled we were down two hostages to one. To win, we needed to either grab one of theirs, and wait the games timer out, or grab them both and end it right there. This is where TS really shined. :) We hatched a plan to grab both. CG planted HB sensors around our capture point, to be able to watch for anyone trying to pilfer our hostage. He stayed back on defense, with an order not to fire until we were ready. Trey and I circled around opposite sides of the enemy base, calling out incoming enemies to CG, but not firing on anyone. The plan was to kill all three of them at once, then make a grab for the hostages while they waited to respawn. They had forumlated much the same defense strategy that we had...sending two guys out to probe our base and steal our hostage, while leaving one behind at base to defend. Trey and I positioned ourselves where we had a crossfire on thier defender, and waited for CG to get visual on both of the attackers. As soon as everything was ready, the order was given, and within a second, CG killed two attackers and their defender fell in a hail of mine and trey's crossfire. This gave us about a 10 second window before anyone could respawn and fire on us. :P Trey and I run out, grab the hostages, and make a run for the base. It was a pretty hairy chase, and we chose a choke point that allowed us to cross paths midway to the base to cover each other in case anyone had the chance to respawn and pursue. A couple quick bursts convinced people they weren't going to catch us, and we wound up ending the game with all hostages rescued. :P All hail the mighty teamspeak!

5) "The Great ChrisGrenard TK fest" This story even has a title. :) We were in one of those mountainous forest maps, and CG gets the bright idea he wants to get a group shot of all of us together. So we all gather in three ranks, the guys in front lying prone, the guys in the middle kneeling, and the guys in back, standing. "Why is CG holding a grenade?" we ask. "The Reticle is smaller and I don't want the big reticle in the shot" (Which is pretty much a lie ;) The grenade reticle is HUGE) He snaps a couple screenshots, and then <plunk> this little metal pineapple lands right smack dab in the middle of the group. :) "grenade!"...<Boom>...<Sound of CG laughing maniacally> We all respawned and people started shooting and throwing grenades around all willy-nilly and for the next 5 minutes or so, we all got our revenge rocks off. :P

There's more. Can't forget the time Boudreaux (Or was it eightball, I can't remember anymore) sniped me like 15 times in a row, but thats another story for another post. this ones too long already, and I've got to get to work at some point. :P

In UT2K4, I usually frequent a CTF low grav - instagib server. Some of my biggest thrills have come from layin' the smack down and scoring a "HOLY SHIT!" and a "WICKED SICK" on the opposing force. Puts a smile on my face each time, guaranteed. 8)

O.K. I'm back :P

6) Lets see here...Oh yeah, the Boudreaux/eightball snipe-fest. It was another one of those hostage rescue dealies. Three on three, each team winds up with 1 hostage apiece, with the last (and potentially deciding) hostage trapped out in the open in the center of the map. My teammates are out covering my advance, staccato bursts of gunfire cut through the serene forest every now and again as someone gets just a little too close. I advance towards the last hostage, touch-up, and have him follow me. just as I turn around "<BANG> I'm dead. "Where was he?" "Don't know, didn't see him" Lucky shot, I figure. He's probably mobile. Now's my chance. I run out, touch-up again, turn around and <BANG> I'm dead. Again. :P Now I'm a stubborn bastard, and i figure if i can get this hostage back towards our base 2 steps at a time, then eventually, we can win this sucker. :P So I run out and touch up, turn around, move him two steps again and <Bang> I'm dead. Again. And again. And again...15 times. I've got this hostage 5 feet away from our respawn, but by now, i figure my teammates are laughing their asses off at me so hard, they forget to provide covering fire. I'm about 2 deaths away from capping this hostage when someone sneaks in and kills my teammates and the other runs in and grabs the hostage. :x As I'm running out to give chase (after respawning. again.) I run along a ridge and peek down to see if I have a shot on the enemy hostage runner. Lo and behold, what do I see? Boudreaux/eightball lying prone behind a tree, totally oblivious to the fact that I am now in a perfect position to tear him a new one. The comparative silence on TS is broken by a maniacal mod shouting "DIE BITCH!" before I toss a grenade on him and plug him with a box of ammo. 8) Revenge is sweet.

7) "In China, revenge is a sweet and sour dish" Anyone remember our beloved former-admin Simon? Simon was very good at UT. One day (long before I became a mod, although, now I wonder how I ever became one after this... :P ) I stumble on a UT tournament thread in MP gaming. I figure what the hell, why not? It'll be a good way to get to know some of the other GGers. So i throw my hat in the ring. One of my first matches is against...Simon! :P Everyone figures I'm toast. Simon's the man! Plus he's an admin, no one's gonna stomp him, right? Oops. :) I beat him. Narrowly. I should have just left it at that, but then I push my luck and rub his nose in it. 8) he was not impressed, I gather. I wasn't fully aware of how much though, until much later. Fast forward to a game of MoHAA. A bunch of us are running around beating the crap out of each other. Simon's in the game, and I know whats good for me, so I try to avoid him. :P I see MH run through a street and duck into a building. I pursue. I enter the building, a church, as it turns out, and see a ladder directly in front of me. Being the wily sort that I am, I figure MH is drawing me out for Simon, he's probably waiting for me at the top of the ladder, and he's gonna plug me in the noggin as soon as I poke my head up the ladder. I should learn to pay more attention to my surroundings. :) My assessment was pretty much correct, but my positioning was off. I back up a few feet, switch to grenades, toss one up into the ceiling, and feeling quite proud of myself, turn around to find an alternate way up...Simon's been behind me the whole time. I turn around, poke my eye out on his shotgun barrel, then he blows my head off, and proceeds to stand over my body, emptying the shotgun into me. :P Revenge aint so sweet when you're on the wrong end of it. :)

I forgot about the UT Tournament!
Those were some of the funnest times I've had gaming. The tension was THICK!
I started the tournament on a map I'd never played before, trying to clinch a wildcard spot. I won the first map after getting lost a few times. Then, I lost the second map, second to last place.
I had my first taste then of the 1 on 1 atmosphere, because I had a tie-breaker. I won by only 1 point, and was off into the real tournament.

It was great, as I would plan my nights around the tournament, and I kept winning, usually by only a point. I would be shaking after each win, my heart pumping intensely, my adrenaline blasting through my veins. It was great fun.

However, there was 1 person I was worried about beating. Samurai was good. That damned blue/green robot of his could bunny-hop, and his aim was unreal. I starting practicing online a bit, and learned to slow down my mouse sensitivity just a touch. It would move more slowly, sure, but a shot is no good if it is first and off. It was then that I met Jonsauce online, and he joined for the next tourney.
But, the match finally came. Sam bunny hoping, me dodging and weaving.
I won the first match, I think by 2.
Then, I was up by about 6 in the second match, and Sam kicked my ass hardcore and led us to the final round.
I beat him by one point after he rallied again, and when I won, I couldn't believe it.
But it was then that I knew I was the Gone Gold 1on1 Instagib master.

I got to be team-captain for the next tourney, but somehow forgot to show up for the match and got banned. I deserved that, as I let my team down.

But the lesson is: Samurai isn't as good as Eduardo X.
ohh and here is your rolly eyes you lost em.

I've had lots of great moments, but my all-time favorite came in the old online tank game Tanarus. I was driving a cloaked Chameleon, which is this tiny little moped of a tank whose only saving virtue is that it can become invisible to the enemy (not undetectable, but other tanks have to actively seek it out in order to figure out where it is). There was this big to-do going on out in an open area and, being vulnerable to all the big tanks there, I decided to retire under a bridge for a minute to scope out the situation. So I'm sitting there and all of a sudden this enemy Devastator heads straight for me, as if he could see me. That was one of the tensest moments I can ever remember having in a game, knowing the enemy couldn't see me, yet watching as he drew closer and closer to my exact location; trying to decide whether to fire on him (a fairly suicidal act in that situtation) and hope he veers away or sit tight and see whether he runs into me (at which point he'd know I was there and I'd be dead anyway). I decide to sit tight.

That was moment Number One, playing a form of chicken with this huge, deadly tank that doesn't even know I'm there. Moment Number Two comes immediately after that. What happened is the Devastator drives under the bridge and stops, literally, about five feet short of me, then turns around and waits, his turret pointing away from me. (If I had moved an inch, he would have heard my engine and known I was there, btw. That's the reason he felt so safe there--if there's a Chameleon close by, you'll usually hear it.) Since I can see his name above the tank, I decide to strike up a chat conversation with him. So I address him by name and ask him how's it going, how's the weather--you know, all that kind of stuff. He's answering me as if he thinks I'm on his team or something. So I inform him that I'm not and isn't that a lovely green Devastator he's driving and wouldn't he like to guess where I am. There's this pause of like three seconds and then a very amusing "Oh shit!" comes over the chatline. He tries to run, but it's no use. I don't have the firepower to kill him, but I send him running back to mommy like you wouldn't believe. It was hilarious. I even uncloaked so everyone could see my boney little Chameleon ass chasing this huge monster around...

Too many great gaming moments. One of my favorites was playing the original Railroad Tycoon all night with GuidoTKP and having my mom poke her head in and ask if we wanted to get breakfast. The very first of our “stay up all night gaming on the PC” sessions. I got Civilization the following weekend, the original “just one more turn” game for me and we ended up playing that one all night too.

Another was playing through the campaign in Red Storm Rising (I miss you Microprose!) with my cousin. For those that haven’t played, RSR is a modern day submarine simulator played out on a tactical map. The graphics are about a half step above ASCII characters. The game came with a keyboard cutout with all the controls printed out on it.

Anyway, I controlled the submarine and my cousin controlled the torpedoes once they hit the water (they’re wire-guided) with a joystick. We were on the very last mission and we ambush the submarine convoy we’re supposed to destroy but we can’t find the boomer, the main objective, anywhere on passive sonar. We piddle around for few minutes waiting for some kind of hit and finally say “f@#$ it” and hit the active sonar. The boomer appears dead ahead and heading away, meaning he can’t use his torpedoes on us. We both shouted at the same moment and sank that bastard. Man we were pumped up that night!

Was playing 688(i) H/K, the Jane's LA class sub sim from Sonalysts (where did Jamie go?) The mission is simple... You are to attack this Soviet battlegroup, complete with aircraft carrier (Kuznetzov), multiple cruisers (Kara and similar), multiple destroyers and frigates, and at least 2 Akula-class subs escorting. By chance you are directly in their path. The carrier has multiple sub-hunting helos in the air. What are your intentions, captain?

To make a long story short, I engaged the task force in a running battle. I first feinted to the south, then sprinted back north so I can come up behind them, and started to pick off the escorts one at a time. The 2 Akulas keep searching but they came nowhere near me. And I think the sunken escorts somehow created enough noise that prevented the helos from acquiring me. Finally, I sent 3 torpedoes into the Kuznetzov and went deep to evade, and heard the explosions in the distance. Just then I had to dodge 2 more torpedoes from the Akulas while my return shots found the target. I cruised around a little more, and killed the remaining Akula, thus completing the sweep. The only thing left alive are the choppers, and they got nothing left to land on!

Well mine are :

Rainbow Six: Rouge Spear

My clan had a match and I was the only one left vs 4 enemies on the
"Train station", I killed them all while taking several hits but without going down.

Operation Flashpoint

Coop with my cousin on a self-made level on the "Desert Island" with very little cover and only one ammo-box and one hospital tent we played as two snipers trying to hold of like 650 enemy soldiers coming in waves towards us.
Sounds boring...maybe, but it wasn`t, it surely got tense as they flanked us and came from 2 sides at once.....needless to say we died.

Medal of honor

3 specific games:

- Where I got a score of 65 kills during a 25 minute game on the map crossroads, not my best score but I hit ALMOST everyone I was aiming at.

- When I sat my personal best with 87 kills in 25 min on "Southern France"

- When I played on the same server when my cousin sat his personal best with a score of 135 during a 25 min game, now that was insane and extremely funny to watch.

Original Tomb Raider.

3dfx had just come out with their "Monster 3d" card...with yes, a DEDICATED 3d processor (addon card I believe - with a whopping 4 meg ram).

Tomb Raider was the only game that could take advantage of this new tech at the time I think, and the difference between the graphics prior to installing my Monster 3d card and after was amazing. That was almost a Zen moment.

And also later, in that game, where you walk into this valley in this huge underground (I think) cavern. All is quiet, peaceful really....suddenly, you hear thumping, to turn around and there is this building sized T Rex running at you full speed...scared the bejeebers outta me...

I've got a few.

1) King's Quest 3 - This was the first PC game I ever played, my jaw dropped at the visuals when I started moving Gwidion around the house. It took me about a month to finish and I loved every minute of it.

2) Starflight - Flying around in Uhlek space scared the crap outta me. For some reason, there was only one save game you could make in this game so if you died it was game over, permenantly. Fighting the Uhlek was a one-way ticket to death, so my stomach would turn everytime I had to go there to get an ancient device like the crystal cone or the black egg. Scary stuff.

3) Wasteland - Couple moments that stand out include finding all of the goodies at Sleeper One and fighting a pitched battle with the Scorpitron at a critical Las Vegas intersection.

4) Civilization - Playing my ultmate dream game for the first time. I remember not knowing what anything did but loving it all the same.

5) Tomb Raider - What an awesome experience. I remember climbing a large object in a huge room on a level in Egypt. The camera pulled back when I got to the top and it turned out I was on a huge sphinx. That moment was so incredible I saved it there so I could show my friends.

6) Might and Magic 6 - I had just gotten back to PC gaming after a seven year hiatus, so rolling up the characters was a lot of fun. There was a guy that said things like "Choose me or suffah!" who made me crack up.

7) Fallout - So many things to like about this one, but finding that power armor in the Glow was great. I had that nervous feeling hoping my Rad-X wouldn't wear off too soon. Also, sneaking past the mutants in order to get to the water chip... another classic nervous moment, but at least I could reload if things got hairy.

8) Baldur's Gate 2 - The showdowns with Jon Irenicus were nothing short of spectacular. They really had an epic feeling about them.

So many more, but I can't think of them all.
