Anyone have any experience with the Malifaux minis game? I've been interested in it for a while. I'm not planning on becoming a minis gamer by any means, but something I can slowly build up over time that is skirmish level appeals to me. Also, the setting is much more interesting to me than most mini game settings.

An update posted yesterday:
We will be shipping the 18,000-ish orders over several weeks starting sometime next month (March) we are hoping everyone will be shipped out within a one month period, or so, from the time we start shipping. The exact start date has not been set yet. We are still making paint, stuffing figure cases with foam, sorting Bones miniatures into groups, and waiting for more Bones to arrive. Although we do have all of the Vampire sets in house now.
We will probably start with the smallest orders containing items we are able to ship and work our way to the largest orders and orders that are still "missing," at this time, some products that aren't ready.

With all the extras I ordered, I'll probably have to wait a while.

AAR: I went by Reaper in Denton, TX last night. They have a retail FLGS there. I highly recommend it if you live in the area. They are really nice folks and its worth a short trip to go see them.

They have added a brand new, huge building where their new (thanks to the Kickstarter support) injection molding and packaging equipment will go. They will eventually have two molding machines; I think they said one by summer and another by fall/winter. They have already hired additional staff plus temps that are helping them to sort the orders.

They have a great display room full of painted minis; all of the ones for the photos in their catalog. It very impressive and intimidating as well. They have two staff painters. There is a large painting room (same size as the store) full of tables and lamps. The staff painters come in for "Painting Club" on Saturday afternoon from noon to four. All you need to bring is some minis and your own brushes. They provide all the paints for free and their entire MSP is available. The workspace and paints are available during all of the open hours of the store. The staff painter mentoring is only during the club hours.

All-in-all, my son and I had a good time. My wallet is feeling it since I bought a paint set and both brush sets they offer. But it was great inspiration to whet our appetite for the coming shipments.

Vampire level pledges started shipping today. They're going by order of simplest to fulfill (least amount of add-ons/extra stuff), so I'm anticipating a fair wait for mine, but :horse: anyway!

Hmm, I think mine was zero add-ons and I live about 15 miles from the shop. I guess I have some explaining to do soon...

A friend decided that he wanted in, too, so we combined our orders. That means two vampire pledges, one case, and a large number of addons.

I'm planning on seeing it in late April, early May.

Kevin (love your email address, by the way),

I'm shaking out the last pre-flight requirements for the Bones shipping, and you were the first live shipment. Did you receive an email notification from me with a UPS tracking number?

Thanks,

Out for delivery... man that took forever.

Just counting the points on the tracking the package went 112 miles.

It is 16.7 driving miles from their location to the intersection nearest my house.

Hopefully they're individually wrapped inside that miasma of miniatures. Otherwise y'all better have the puzzle assembly skills of the gods themselves.

Cool. I had seppe add on a few for me when he backed this. Can't wait to get my hands on them...especially since I've just started painting as a hobby. The Cthulhu figure is the one I'm most anxious to get too.

Is that common for any resin based miniature line? Or just Bones? The reason I ask is because Malifaux is moving to resin minis and I've been avoiding some of the more intricate figures due to my one dislike of the hobby: assembly. My frustration level reaches all time highs when I'm forced to stand there like an idiot holding two tiny pieces of a mini together...only to find out I've superglued my finger to them in the process. :x

Well, Bones are unique. They're not resin, they're vinyl, and almost all of them will be pre-assembled. They mentioned that a few of the really big pieces may have separate wings that need to be attached.

Anyway, some miniature lines come pre-assembled, some do not. It really depends on the manufacturer and the intricacy of the piece. Usually the more complex the piece, the more likely it is to be cast in multiple pieces. Frequently they have the consumer do the assembly, as doing it themselves would increase the cost (and because a lot of people prefer to do it themselves, as it allows more customization, switching heads and weapons and so forth.)

Remember Kaladrax, one of the two undead dragons they offered? Bryan from Reaper just posted the following as a comment:
We have estimated based on volume that he would be approximately $950 in metal, he is THAT big. He weighs 4 pounds (US imperial) (Just shy of 2 Kg) in BONES and would be over 20 pounds in Metal.

That's the one that was a $10 addon, right? How are they not losing their shirts over this?

Also, I gotta see that mini. "Mini".

I'm thinking... it's still "mini" compared to how big a real dragon would be.
wot?

To be fair, adolescent power fantasy tripe is way easier to write than absurd existential horror, and every community has got to start somewhere... right?

Yeah, Kaladrax is the $10 one. I doubt it actually has $10 worth of resin in it even at 4 pounds, and presumably the actual retail price of it will be enough to pay for the mold eventually. I'm betting it retails for $50+.

Honestly an entrepreneurial person could probably make back a big portion of their Reaper pledge by painting one of the big setpiece minis (Kaladrax, Nethyrmaul, Cthulu, the Clockwork Dragon, etc) to a good standard then reselling it.

I'm glad I didn't buy Kaladrax. I mean, I have a different, somewhat smaller resin Kaladrax already, and the new one is simply too large. There would be no point in bringing it out for a roleplaying game, because it would occupy the entire batlemat. And then there's storage. Nah, I'm already plenty worried about Cthulhu (though I still have no idea why they spell it in the weird way they do. I mean, Cthulhu isn't under copyright, so why call it C'thulhu?)

I'm sure they didn't intend Kaladrax as a roleplaying/wargaming miniature. If they had, they probably wouldn't have put it on that kind of base - it could create rule issues. A lot of people still buy and paint for display.

I couldn't resist Kaladrax for $10, personally. I didn't realize he was going to be quite so ginormous, but I don't care. I may never get to put him on the table, but for $10, I'm not exactly out a ton of money and it's an incredible figure. And like I mentioned, it may just be possible to resell him to make back the money I spent on everything else.

Man, this is a ridiculous amount of minis. I mean, you can tell it's a lot from the Kickstarter page, but seeing it all out in front of you...whoa.
