Best Game of Last Five Years - Round 4

Post by Hipolito »

Results of Round 3:

DIV A - Dragon Age: Origins: 6
DIV A - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: 11

DIV B - Borderlands 2: 12
DIV B - XCOM: Enemy Unknown: 5

DIV C - Fallout: New Vegas: 12
DIV C - Sid Meier's Civilization V: 6

DIV D - Red Dead Redemption: 9
DIV D - Portal 2: 10

The RDR vs Portal 2 match was mighty close and I had to extend the round to break the tie. If anything, it shows we want an open-world game where cowboys have portal guns.

We're down to the Final Four!
Western Conference: Skyrim vs Borderlands 2
Eastern Conference : Fallout New Vegas vs Portal 2

Use the poll function and vote before the weekend. Have fun!

And Skyrim beat Dragon Age. Completely bananas.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

I'm still coming to terms with Bastion beating Dark Souls in the preliminary round.

You know, I'm not sure Borderlands2 is the best game of the past five years but it keeps getting matched up against inferior games so it keeps getting my vote.

Heya

People keep telling me that Red Dead Redemption is a great game.

And I keep looking at it only to find every time that it is console only.

Which I guess is how it lost that last round... ;p

This forum does tend to focus more on the PC side of things, as the Console portion of GG now resides at another location that we use as an Alpha Site. Held in that forum, the results of this bracket might well be drastically different.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Nah, we've been a PC gaming site since the beginning. GG was a PC site. It was why it made sense for a console site to spin off of GG before the Great Crash - Console Gold was never interfering with Gone Gold's business.

If Skyrim wins overall I am going to be deeply disappointed in all of you. There are only a few games on the whole list that I would choose Skyrim over.

Heya

FNV out of the remainder would be my choice.

Skyrim not so much, though I voted for it as I haven't gotten to Borderlands 2 yet... :ninja:

I am actually surprising myself for voting for Borderlands 2 over Skyrim. Skyrim is a fantastic game. I've spent a lot of hours with it, and the insane amount of community content means you could play it over multiple times and have completely different experiences. Besides, you all know my love of Elder Scrolls.

Borderlands 2, though. Between multiple class playthroughs, online, plus LAN co-op, Steam tells me 200 hours, and I still feel the call to go back. Something in that game just clicked.

When I think back to Skyrim, I smile.

When I think back to Borderlands, I smile and giggle.

I've played through both twice. I love both. In the end, Skyrim wins for me. Realistically, it isn't much different from Arena, but realistically it isn't much different from Arena. I'll take another Arena over another Diablo.

Hopefully you're a big fan of games that include a potato as a major plot point. A story following the atonement of a former outlaw, trying to do right? Screw that.

I think Skyrim is the more impressive game but I had more fun playing Borderlands 2. So Borderlands gets my vote.

I've just started playing The Last of Us a few weeks back. I wish I could go back and vote for it in the first round. But I suppose it's not surprising that a PS3 only game that came out a few months ago didn't do so well here.

Right - because Portal 2 was ground breaking in execution.

It was just like Portal 1, but with more lube.

I voted for RDR, but it was really a vote for Tomb Raider... dammit.
