Best Game of All Time Tournament - Round 6
Results of Round 5, determined by a conservative estiguess of 27 voters, below.
For informational fun, I put numbers by some of the games' titles; these numbers denote that the game previously won our tournament, in chronological order. X-COM won our very first tournament way back in the Gone Gold days, Fallout our second, etc.
In the past, previous tournament winners were barred from competing. They were all allowed back in for this tournament, which is a "reboot" since it now allows console games. And they all made it to the Elite Eight. You are a loyal and steadfast group of gamers!
But as we go from Eight to Four, we must lose one of those five previous winners. The one we lost was Planescape: Torment. I has a sad.
Fallout (#2): 15
TIE Fighter: 13
Alpha Centauri: 13
X-COM: UFO Defense (#1): 14
Baldur's Gate II (#3): 17
Planescape: Torment (#4): 9
Fallout: New Vegas: 12
Civilization IV (#5): 14
We're now down to the Final Four:
Western Conference: Fallout vs. X-COM: UFO Defense
Eastern Conference: Baldur's Gate II vs. Civilization IV
Isn't this exciting? Vote I say!

AHHHHHH!!!!

If I was a little piggie from "Speaker for the Dead", I would be wailing right now.

Interesting that not only did PS:T lose, it was the only game to lose by a significant margin. Nearly twice as many votes for BG2, the others were all separated by 1 or a couple votes (yes, if your game lost and you did not vote, other than PS:T, you likely could have made a difference!).
For me, Fallout vs Xcom was easy (never played Fallout, Xcom I was motivated enough to acquire and play, it wins). Civ4 vs BG2 though... played BG1 and Civ1. I generally prefer strategy games to RPG games but they're my favorite genres in general. Tough call. Went with BG2 in the end though (not that Civ4 is bad, but I prefer sci-fi/fantasy strat games more than more historical ones; though I enjoy the historical themed ones as well).

Ya know, it's not too late at all to play Fallout for the first time. It holds up VERY well IMO.

As opposed to the competition? It's OK to admit it.Carpet_pissr wrote:Ya know, it's not too late at all to play Fallout for the first time. It holds up VERY well IMO.

Interestingly, all four remaining contestants are (arguably) strategy games. A couple of them put a little more emphasis on story, but that's about it.

I've finished Fallout multiple times. I've never made it through a single game of X-Com... Fallout it is, though I enjoy both.
I've only managed to play the first 30 min. of BGII (more a matter of available time than interest), and Civ IV I've sunk months of my life into. Civ IV gets my vote here.

Easy choices for me this time around. Fallout and BGII are both fine games but X-Com and Civ:IV consumed hundreds of hours of my life...
I regret nothing.

Voting ends tonight. We need to break our Fallout vs. X-COM tie. Do not leave this to the dark machinations* of our tiebreaker!
