BGGCon 2015 - Dallas, TX - November 18-22

Post by coopasonic »

BGG.CON
November 18-22nd 2015
Hyatt Regency - DFW Airport

Registration is now open.

They are selling about 100 fewer tickets than last year so it may sell out faster than before.

Registration is open now and I am registered.

Anyone else going? It's up $10 this year and apparently hotel rooms are expected to sell out for the event very soon.

Really wish I could. Kid in college means trips like that are out of the question.

It's funny because it's hard for me because my kids are still sorta young (6 and 9 by the time of the con so young is questionable). Once they are in college I'll expect them to be attending with me. Of course the money is neglible for me, not needing a hotel or airfare. On the other hand, Octocon cost me about $500. It was mostly the damn fees. It was really nice of hepcat that handle of them for me. Being able to give him all of the cash up front made it a lot easier on me.

My kids (and wife) have only expressed a minor interest in gaming, mostly around roleplaying. I really need to get my son more interested.

For me, the year end date makes BGG impossible despite a serious interest in a board game focused convention. Early or late summer conventions work better.

The wife usually takes my 5 and 7 year olds to visit family or works in alternative entertainment for Friday/Saturday. This year they'll still be in school for Origins in June so it's my wife who will miss me most. The kids get souvenirs -- Hello Kitty dice bags, My Little Pony card game, Baby Cthulhu, Munchkin Duck of Holding, Castle LEGOs and Dragons have worked in the past.

Last year the November con sold out in June. This year it sold out in March (16 days after going on sale). They have no plans to expand the number of tickets for this con for the foreseeable future and they are locked in to the same hotel for the next 3 cons (2015-2017). The dream is that BGG.FAM satisfies the overflow demand. A family friendly boardgaming con on a holiday weekend during the school year. Yeah, sure.

Scuttlebutt at the DGM this month was that this fall's event was trimmed by 100 tickets from alast year as well. Not that that would make a 3-month difference.

Less than a month to go!

I'll be arriving Tuesday night, to help Jeff A. with BGG unload the truck, and hang out. I plan to stay up late, and sleep in Wednesday, to avoid standing in line to get my badge. I'll get up around 11, and am staying until late afternoon Sunday.
