Ah! Math!

Yeah, I went through a phase where when they were firesaleing these Crimson Skies clicks, I went around buying up stock in them, with dreams of running large-scale scrums at conventions (each box only gave you parts to support 2 fliers).

I still love the idea behind this game. It was pretty much the first game that used a flight path type system, but instead of using dedicated rulers for the path of the flight, you used octagons (yes, octagons vs hexagons) and cards that had your flight path for your maneuver listed on them. While this led to tremendous flexibility, it was also very fiddly, and sometimes confusing when it came to laying out your flight path.

I would love to see a new Crimson Skies game using the X-Wing flight path system.

That would be fantastic. I have never played Crimson Skies, although I do have one lead miniature for it from somewhere, although I did love the PC game they based on it (or was it vice-versa?)

IIRC, the first property was the FASA boardgame, followed by the computer/video games, followed by the Clix version.

So one of the other issues with the Clix version was that it was actually two games in one, the plane game and there was also an on the ground pilot vs pilot game. The pilot vs pilot game never interested me at all, and it felt like a tacked on game to sell a few additional figures.

That said, I would love to have a licensed RPG based in the Crimson Skies universe. Or a grand strategy game between factions. I had jotted down some initial rules for a campaign to add to the Clix game, but those are long gone...

It would actually be fairly easy to do in Savage Worlds. There are already some professional settings that are very close in feel.

So I found these other artifacts from Crimson Skies...

Image

These are a set of laser cut acrylic movement templates for CS. I bought a full set of these to help speed up the movement in the game. They were made by Flying Tricycle, one of the first business I can recall that made laser cut terrain. I have a few of their buildings, still in boxes (of course). Next is this rarity...

Image

A set of the CS chase cards for the game. They had a full set of calendar pin-up cards, as well as scenario cards and weather cards. I can’t really remember how I got them though. I don’t remember buying packs of cards, but I do remember the hunt.

This is what I got in return:

Mostly more 4Ground buildings. Which can burn through that pretty quickly. Oh, and Star Wars Legion. One of everything there.

FLGS = Friendly Local Gaming Store, i.e. the hobbyist comic/book/toy stores that sell -- and often also buy -- tabletop games; you can check here for FLGSs in Tennessee and also this Reddit thread.

If they're all too far away, Noble Knight Games is an online vendor that makes it surprisingly simple and easy to turn old tabletop games into cash.

Yeah, it was an auction at (one of my many) local game stores. I didn't make it in for the actual auction, but according to my friend that did go, some guy who worked for games workshop came in with dozens and dozens of cases of GW miniatures. He had his bits box in the auction as well, apparently his bits box was a 20 gallon tub. Made me glad I didn't put any of my GW stuff in the auction.

Downside of that is that it is all in store credit. Apparently you could request (in advance) to get half of what they raised in cash, but I honestly thought I would only get a few hundred dollars for the stuff I had in the auction. I actually got a little dizzy when I saw that number.

Not really an artifact, but I’ve had this sitting in my garage for about 10 years. Finally made a space for it. Going to use it for miniatures storage.

Wizards of the Coast released Star Wars Miniatures game back in 2004, and I went kind of nuts for the game. I collected the entire first release of the game, which was based on the original 3 movies, but slacked off on collecting when they started sets based on the prequels. The funny thing is, I didn’t actually play the game that much. I probably played about a half dozen times. My primary idea for collecting the minis was to be able to use them for Star Wars Miniatures Battles, which had been released by West End Games several years before that. As many of my plans do, that never panned out either.

Anyway. This oddity is from Great Britain. A company there called DeAgostini had subscription services for collectibles, and Star Wars was no exception. They had several different subscription services for helmet models, die cast ships, etc. They struck a deal with Wizards of the Coast to do a subscription service for the Star Wars Miniatures game, that each magazine would feature a “limited edition” of one of the already released miniatures (the only difference between the general release and these miniatures is the word “DeAgostini” stamped on the bottom of the base), several scenarios, and, of most interest to me, card stock sheets that you could cut out and assemble into 3-D terrain for the game. The first three issues would build out a section of the interior of the Tantive IV. After that, an interior of the cloud city of Bespin.

Through some wheeling and dealing with a game publisher Tommy and I knew over in Britain, we worked out a merchandise exchange, where we would send him some things he was interested in that he couldn’t easily get over there, in exchange for the subscription to the series. Alas, only 4 issues were ever released, due to lack of interest in the subscription.

I'm planning on selling these on Ebay after I take a few better pictures. But I have no clue how much to put out there, there's no (recent) history of them being sold on Ebay.
And in a bit of good luck, as I was sorting through all of my Star Wars minis last night to move them to the card catalog, I found the original 5 minis that were shipped with these Deagostini card terrain magazines. So now these are complete sets, including minis. Absolutely no idea if that will make them any more valuable, but it couldn't hurt.

I have a few dozen of the Star Wars minis from that game (I think), including some of the sets that came with paper maps. I picked them up a number of years ago for an RPG (Savage Worlds) campaign.

That's a sweet card catalog, and it fits so perfectly under the Crokinole board.

When we move to a new place, I'll be looking for a set of drawers for my miniatures too. I doubt I'll find anything as cool.

Maybe a wood CD cabinet? I picked one up from Sams (I think) many many years ago. The draws are a bit bigger, but you could find one that would give you a similar look.

Yeah, I got that well over 10 years ago. Bought it from a suburban library that my wife somehow found out was replacing their card catalogs. It's actually a little too big for the space that it's in...with my beverage cooler in place, I can't remove the bottom right drawers without moving the cooler.

I actually have another smaller card catalog that isn't in nearly as nice shape. It's a tabletop model, only about 12 drawers total. Currently being unused, I may put it up for sale at some point (or give it away to a needy person.)

My first minis game.

The white boxes are filled with bulk gashants and shield gunners. I rescued them from the GDW warehouse before they were about to be sent back to RAFM to be melted down for something else.

In addition to these unpainted guys I have 3 complete companies of Oenotrian Canal Martians and two warbands of 20 High Martians.

We usually use a rule set called GASLIGHT, or Glorious Adventures in Science Loosely Involving Generally Historic Times. We grew away from Soldier’s Companion, the rules created for the figs, because they were very much a creature of the 80’s...very static and rules heavy. My favorite rules to use in the Space:1899 period was Brother Against Brother, but I’ve lost those rules and can’t find another copy.
