Stayed in Bologna and really enjoyed the city. Delicious cuisine of the region and a nice city to walk about. (if we're not bombing it in a future mission)

$iljanus is playing a boardgame ( Target for Today) about a single bomber bombing the Reich in WW 2 as part of a larger formation.
He's trying to get around 25 missions before the plane is destroyed.


The rest of us are the crew.

So far we've died at least twice.

Actually, except for LordMortis I think who ended up in a POW camp y'all died only once! The last plane was totalled but any landing you can walk away from is a good landing!

Also the B-24 crews out of Italy during the time period you're flying had to complete 30 missions. The escort coverage was getting better though.

Yes, but I swam over and boarded the Nazi submarine when they weren't paying attention. I stole three Enigma machines and a raft, and I'm paddling under the White Cliffs as we speak.

It's a great job, plenty of drama without the hazard.

I might see if I can talk one of the guys into letting me hitch a ride on the next mission though. I don't want the war to end without ever having seen an enemy.

So apologies for the delay. Busy time of year with my daughter in some performances, family in town, etc. Will do the ace calculations soon but I've been able to finish some turns that I can post. November 17th, 1943



It's unusually cold this far south today as the sleepy bomber crews try to wake up for the pre-mission briefing. The target is the marshalling yards in Ferrara. At least it's within Italy so hopefully it will be a quick turnaround time for the bombers, barring bad weather, fighter planes and flak. Most of the trip will be over water so if any planes need to drop to 10,000 feet at least they won't be harassed by AA emplacements.

The crew of the Aiming to Misbehave, formerly of the Sack Time Sally, walks to their not so new bomber. The ground crew did a thorough check of the plane along with the flight crew a few evenings ago and both groups seem satisfied with their not so new bomber. Since the crew only had 2 missions under their belt they didn't get one of the shiny new bombers off the assembly line but this bomber seems solid enough and all the bullet holes have been patched up.

After the usual pre-flight checks the bomber takes its place on the runway, awaiting the signal to begin takeoff. There's some cloud cover over the airfield but nothing that should stop the mission. The Aiming to Misbehave is snugly in the middle formation box today which suits everyone just fine. The signal is given and eventually the plane lumbers into the air, joining the rest of the formation without incident. As the planes reach their operational altitude the crew is glad that their heated suits are working because it seems even colder than usual. It's clear skies so far and not a fighter is to be seen as the bombers make their way north...

So a random event was rolled with an extreme cold result but lucky for you no guns were jammed.

Who needs a new plane. I like this girl fine. Shes got moxy.

As the group flies over the Adriatic some fighters harass the formation. The Aiming to Misbehave attracts the attention of a pair of Fw 190s but one of them is driven off by a friendly fighter. The other bandit trades shots with Gbasden and Dbt but everyone misses the other and the fighter buzzes past the bomber and goes off towards a different target. Raydude was trying to get a shot off at the fighter but both guns jam. Lucky for our crew, the attacks cease and the bombers continue on their way.

Further on in the flight, a creepy B-17 with what looks like to be German markings is seen in the distance shadowing the formation...

As the bombers get closer to their target, Raydude is still having trouble clearing the jam. The weather has taken a turn for the worse as clouds build up below the formation which will make it hard to see the target but it also seems to be hiding the bombers as no fighters can be seen either. The cold plays havoc with the gunners on the Aiming to Misbehave as Daehawk and TheMix find their guns jammed by the cold. Hopefully the Luftwaffe won't make an appearance in the near future since three gunners are experiencing jams now...

So this is a bit of a good news/bad news situation with only one fighter attacking and missing the plane but you're down three gunners as they try to clear their jams. The next zone will be the target so hopefully your luck will hold and the only thing you'll need to worry about is flak...which could of course kill you all at once.

Freaking german ghost bombers.

I am actually a pagan and I put a curse on the German fighters.
Had to sacrifice 6 beers.
And a cup of coffee.

The bomber group finally crosses back into Italy and approaches Ferrara. The target is covered with clouds but the lead bomber stays the course so the bombers begin their bomb run. No fighter harass the formation but flak peppers the sky. The Aiming to Misbehave shudders as some shrapnel hits the #3 engine but it proves to be pretty resilient and no damage is inflicted. Control of the plane passes to Isgrimnur as he guides the plane toward the target area. The lead bomber drops their payload so Isgrimnur drops their bombs. As he peers through the bombsight the target is completely obscured by clouds but getting back is all that matters now as Smoove banks the plane away from Ferrara and heads towards home. Meanwhile the three gunners are still struggling to clear their jams and everyone anxiously watches the skies for fighters...

Gotta now take a break due to upcoming travel and will pick this up in the new year. Congratulations on making it in one piece to the target. I'm a little concerned though that you have three gunners out of the picture as I keep failing the roll to unjam a gun. At least I didn't get the "gun broken permanently" result yet. Machinery tends to get ornery at 20,000 feet.

I vote we replace the guns with finger gestures and puppets.

Hey everybody! Let's see what the new year will bring for the brave crew of the Aiming to Misbehave...

So bombs have been dropped and the plane is curving away from the flaming city. Lady luck is smiling on the formation because no flak or fighters can be seen and the planes are finally over the Adriatic on a course for home. The skies are empty of fighters for a while as the gunners work on unjamming their guns. Over the intercom, TheMix reports that his gun is ready for action while Raydude says some choice words that are unprintable for print. Daehawk makes a comment about how a piece of the gun has fallen out which doesn't bode well for two reasons. First, the top turret is now inoperable. Second, a wave of fighters has found the formation and a trio of Me 110s have found the Aiming to Misbehave...



Your fighter escort manages to chase away the bandit at 12:00. The ace at 10:30 level will fly at the Aiming to Misbehave unopposed because Raydude is still working to unjam his guns while Daehawk glares at the piece of metal in his gloved hands. Zenn7 and Gbasden however are able to fire and they train their weapons on the ace flying below them at 6:00.



The stream of bullets finds the ace, ripping the plane in half with no hope of survival for the pilot. The other plane however is able to land a hit on the bomber's waist area but only caused superficial damage. Noticing the lack of fire in his direction he circles around again and comes at the bomber from 12:00 level. He fires and scores hits on the flight deck where the radio is located and the nose. The radio is destroyed (in game terms, if you need to ditch and you're out of formation no one will see where you went down and you can't send a mayday so you'll probably die of exposure when you make your survival roll...) and Raydude can finally stop trying to unjam his guns because the hit on the nose has completely destroyed them.

The ace flies off to engage fresh targets as your bomber continues her race home.

Another wave of fighters attack but due to your aggressive little friends the bandits are chased off. The weather below alternates between pea soup and a haze but good weather wins out and none of the damage suffered by the Aiming to Misbehave affects the landing as NickAragua and Smoove land the plane safely. Congratulations! Everyone has made it home alive and you now have 3 missions under your belt!

Photo intelligence has estimated that you put 15% of your bombs on the target.

Your survival has filled me with joy in the new year! The mission went fast due to the low number of fighters that were thrown at you but the mechanical problems made it quite exciting especially when fighters did show up. I'll be taking a short break since I'm behind on calculating the kills from the last mission and I have some other games I want to bring on the table. But I do want to try to get to 30 missions so I'm rolling up a new target as I type which will be...supporting the troops at Monte Cassino! As I look up the location it's only one zone away from the airbase so I may fly that mission sooner rather than later.

Im going to have to send this piece back to Amazon.

15% is pretty good for a blind drop.
