Minus 30 minutes. So you'll need to cast your vote on the past map for it to count. :D

Wait, the deadline is over? WTF didn't anyone tell me?

Yeah, man, why didn't anyone post about it???

Re: LOST 2 - Smoke and Mirrors: Tuesday Night

Postby Grundbegriff » Fri Jul 30, 2010 8:21 pm

On the first full day of crisis resolution, the people on the Island gathered as one to discuss their fate. Each knew a secret, and each was plagued by baffling memories and unwanted dreams. So not a one of them was anything less than cranky, which goes far in explaining an episode heard not long before dusk.

Lagom Lite: Hey, how're y'all doin'?
Someone: Arcanis? Did you change your hair? Looks great!
Someone else: That's not Arcanis. Imposter! Doppelgaenger!
Lagom Lite: uhm...
Everyone else: Kill the charlatan! No, don't touch him! Lynch! It's an ok cut, but not really boutique. Slay him! Save him!

in the end, as many as eight others held the point of the knife to Lagom Lite's throat, but none could find the jugular. Apparently, it had been hidden in a canoptic jar near the temple, along with a certain number of cojones.

It is night

Charles Widmore: Where have your people placed or removed sonic barriers?
Kate and Zoe: (if applicable) Will you shoot? If so, whom?
Ben: (if applicable) Will you use your blade? If so, on whom?
Man in Black: Will you attack a hex? Which one on which map?
Everyone: Where do you want to go tonight? Please provide well-formed orders for both the Past and the Present.

stessier wrote:I'm not going to quote stuff because too many of these posts have started to resemble the ones in the Drama Post thread and are making me giggle. Can't have that at work. Not that I am at work yet - but on re-reading, dontcha know.

I understand what Remus is saying and I find it interesting who has opposed it. I also understand his concern on how long I held my info. But I didn't just sit back and do nothing. I posted a ton of questions and tried pushing and prodding around the rules. I knew Team Widmore knows where the Flame is and that it is very likely gonna be booby trapped/blocked from here on out. I wanted to see if anyone would blink or slip with pushing us in that direction or discounting our chances of ever finding it.

Sadly, very few even bothered to look at the list. I'm hurt. :(

But life must go on.

As evidenced by the Barrier issue, these rules are pretty complex and it's easy to overlook things. I think this has happened in Remus' quest to find MiB. While it sounds good to lynch his target, we can't forget that Ben is the wild card. If we give him time to work, he might not only find and kill Charles in Charge for us, he would also join our team in such an event. That is huge! 2 population swing in a single night!! So blindly lynching a Team MiB'er this early is a serious folly. LM ain't going anywhere. We can lynch him whenever. If, by some miracle, we unstopper the Heart tonight, we can revisit. Otherwise, let's wait a while and give Ben a chance to complete his mission.

I believe Lagom is our real problem. He is sitting in a room full of C4. He can erect barriers if left alone. He can move C4. He is the real threat and he has to be dealt with today. The silent people are a problem, but in the event they aren't Losties, letting them get random moved about the island would be a good thing for us! They might get killed and they certainly won't be setting up barriers. We can let them live for the day.

 Lagom Lite

Now then, on to the threat Matrix!

Lostie
  • stessier

Leaning Lostie
  • Remus - His naming of MiB and overall play seems right
  • Chaos - My concern over Newcastle puts him here. If Newcastle is Lostie, the Chaos is Widmore.
  • redrun - Still really learning his playing style, but his posting doesn't seem guarded and he doesn't appear to be acting with any inside info.

Widmore
  • Lagom Lite - sitting in the Flame in the Past all by himself making bombs

Leaning Widmore
  • Lassr - I don't think Scoop was really his scan. I think he found a Lostie and naturally doesn't want that info out there, so he picked Scoop to pin the Widmore label on.
  • Newcastle - His choice of lynching tru1cy in the face of a Chaos as Widmore scan, especially with where Chaos has said he is. It just seems wrong. He might be Team MiB too, but he also seems coordinated with Brendan, so that means Widmore.
  • Brendan - seems far too trusting of Newcastle and thinks forcing tru1cy to talk is imperative. Like, finding the runway would be fantastic.

Leaning MiB
  • theohall - His single minded attack on Remus has the one benefit of saving LM. If LM is on this team, I bet he's either a convert of Claire. With theo being so open, I'm thinking MiB himself - dare us to lynch him because it won't matter.
  • LM - per Remus' scan and theo's defense

The Rest
  • Scoop20906 - I don't think he was really Lassr's scan. Living through the night is most likely a result of the conversion, but that doesn't mean he wasn't converted. An enigma at this point.
  • Unagi - Very little posting. Kind of went this way and that on the points I thought were telling. Don't have a feel for yet.
  • Mr Bubbles - still waiting for the Post of Significance /* read in booming, reverberating voice */
  • J.D. - posting would be nice
  • Kenetickid - posting would be nice
  • tru1cy - posting would be nice

Because it seemed like the right thing to do?

I had just been dropped into the game and still had to read all the rules. I went down the list quickly and thought it would be most important to find out if anyone knew where the Flame was. I thought about the Tempest as well, since it could be set to kill, but in the end chose to learn about the communication center. It was kind of a shot in the dark.

But I don't have a track record for critical thinking on these type of choices. I chose my college because it was sunny the day I visited and rained on the days I visited my other 2 choices. It always seems to work out, but I can't say it is by my design. :)

As badly as I want to beat these guys, I'm not going to sign up for a future game until we all agree to boot players who don't contribute. It is fine to have an extenuating circumstance, but it'd sure be nice, when people are posting on other parts of the board, to hear why they can't manage to offer up some meager commentary over here.

Newcastle, pulling the lever will quite possibly help us. Widmorians can coordinate in their forum to ensure that they don't get eaten by hazards. Worse, they can coordinate to not coordinate with losties. You might say, "Hay REMUS, I'm going north!", and if Remus knows that the staff is north of you, he'll say "SURE THING LITTLE BUDDY" and watch you get eaten by the hex.

Moving everyone around is a crapshoot for sure, but at least it'll prevent us from getting sequestered behind walls (and, hilariously, will force the widmorians to manage their walls more carefully).

Orders are due by midnight EST tomorrow night, Saturday, 31 July 2010

/ooc

+1 here

I am almost tempted to get off the island...i understand silence as a strategy, but total withdrawal of participation sucks to be absolutely honest. I really think having the deadline enables folks to withdraw, which to be honest sucks for the rest of us. I realize that other teams have incentive to not vote for them, but to enable them, brings the game down to lameness and is more an exploit of the spirit of the game.

am sorry grund to speak like this, i really do love the concept of this game, i really do.

Sigh, it seems I just don't see myself the way the rest of you do. I will say you are a good egg Newcastle for helping me with the details. I got so far behind at mid-week that catch up forced me to miss alot of details and there are a TON of friggin details. If I had access to the secret forums I wouldn't be as lost as I am now. Heh, Lost. Anyway, Unagi, time to put that conversion order in on me.

Time to get my orders in then play some starcraft 2.

In response to the concerns Brendan and Newcastle have expressed. I agree. Not only does total non-participation harm a game's dynamic for those involved, but it also makes running/managing the game somewhat irksome. Nobody wants to be a nag, right? But when resolving the events of the game depends on the choices of someone who's completely unplugged (at least from this sector of the forum), the Moderator's fun turns to tedium.

Let's see how this resolution round goes. But I'm fully prepared to reduce the population if necessary-- even going as far as to shave a role off each team and possibly make a non-imbalancing reassignment-- in order to ensure a high quality gaming experience for those who are trying to enjoy the game.

I know it is a huge pain in the ass but is it possible to replace the non-players? Maybe someone who is active at GT could talk some of the more active folks there into spending some time in this game?

I think it would be more wise to figure out a way to cut one starting role from each team.

Executive Action:

I have sent word to Kenetickid and J.D. that they have been removed from the game.

No hard feelings. Sometimes, life is too busy and games are too complex. I understand their non-participation in that way, and hope they'll turn up later, when they have more time, to join some less demanding rounds of Werewolf.

Guys,

Grund asked me if I wanted to drop out of the game as well due to players getting removed anyway. I've accepted. I only agreed to cover for Arcanis to stop this from happening anyway. I'm sorry, I hope you understand. Under differrent circumstances I would have participated more, nay, I would have signed up in the first place! ;)

Back to the dungeon...

For public record (and in fairness to your strategizing):

J.D. is no longer in the game.
Kenetickid is no longer in the game.
Lagom Lite is no longer in the game.

Without saying which is which, I believe you should know for purposes of planning that each was on a different team and that their roles were all of the same kind. (Isn't that odd?)

In alphabetical order, the roles no longer in the game are: Claire, Naomi, and Sawyer.

Noteworthy details:

(1) Was Sawyer a Candidate? I'm not telling. However, I raised the Candidacy ratio from 3/6 to 4/7 when I added a role to the Castaway team. So now, I'm removing one candidate. The current Castaway population is 6, and 3 of them are candidates.

(2) Claire successfully found Kate on the first night. The implications of this are huge, but we'll have to talk about it in the postmortem!

Please save your comments till the end of the game and then share them, or share them with me by PM. Now that we've satisfied our drama quotient, let's leave the middle of the game thread for the middle of the game! :)

Well since people are getting booted, I just like to remind people I'm back. I tore my medial meniscus and it hurt a bit, but on the bright side it should mean I'm in front of the computer more instead of outside ;)
