I just watched 6 season of Lost recently. I'm working on catching up on these things. I did not watch much TV for years. I'm catching up. I have most of BSG on DVD, I just haven't watched it yet. Currently it sits behind Season 2 of Fringe and seasons 5 and 6 of Weeds on the list. Plus I have a lot fo Justified episodes on the DVR that require watching.

Good lord, man! At least watch season 2. Seasons 1 & 2 are some of the greatest television I've ever seen. Season 3 is good but more mixed (and divides the fans), and season 4 is decidedly spotty. But season 2!

But then...if you watched season 1 but didn't go on to season 2...

Is there any way to airlock someone before character selection is finished?

I bought Season 1 when it first came out on DVD. I did not buy season 2 until season 2 and 3 were both out. I feel like I need to rewatch 1 before continuing. I just never have time to watch it all again.

Fair enough. :) But for what it's worth I'd definitely put it over Weeds. Haven't seen the other shows, but I'm skeptical that they're as good.

One thing I will point out with the Cylon Fleet option (which I assume we are using, if not, well, ignore me), is that when the fleet jumps, civilian ships DO NOT get taken off of the board. The only way to remove them is to have a viper "escort" them off the board, so that takes actions from us players. I've only had the chance to play this game variant one time, but when we did, we had civilian ships all over the place. Additionally, with the Cylon Fleet option, more civilian ships end up on the board, as they are regularly added when the Cylon jump track goes up. PLUS, when placing civilian ships, they have to be placed on parts of the board where there is not another civilian ship already placed, so they end up all over the board unless you are escorting/moving them frequently.

In order to help speed things up, my character selection shall be as follows:

If Zurai picks a pilot character: Felix Gaeta
If Zurai does NOT pick a pilot character: Kara Thrace

Fair enough. My suspicion is that you're better off with a pilot to shoot down raiders and escort civvies as needed, which is going to be more generally useful than where you need to more 3+ ships at once. But with the cylon fleet it is possible. I haven't played with it before so I'm mostly guessing - I'd defer to those who have actually played with it.

You know, these fleet mechanics sound like a vast improvement over the base game. I wonder why it took them so long to implement.

They do seem more interesting, and for sure should make pilots more interesting/useful to play. From the two games I've played so far without Exodus, there's rarely more than one point in the game where the pilots are actually needed.

The main complaint I've seen online is that some people say that the Basestar Bridge location is overpowered and that the best cylon strategy is simply to reveal first turn and spam it over and over again. Don't know if there's any validity to that, but that would be annoying if true.

You get two options when you are a cylon on the cylon fleet and just one is pretty damn powerful. But the cylon fleet locations are only powerful if there are cylon ships around galactica. If we can blast cylons fast enough the fleet won't overwhelm us.

I just want to ask a couple quick questions related to personal loyalty cards, before anything's dealt (so no one can read anything into them :P ).

First, if you reveal a personal goal card (due to meeting its conditions) before distance 7, you draw a new "you are not a cylon card" which could then have another personal goal or be a Final Five card. How many personal goal / final five cards are there? In other words, is there much of a point to revealing a personal goal before distance 7, given that you could just draw another personal goal?

Second, looking at the secrecy instructions for Exodus, you can't say that you have a personal goal or final five card (though you can say something like "you really shouldn't look at my loyalty cards"). So what do you say if you're doing something harmful to meet a personal goal? I guess you say something like "hey, I've got a reason for this, just trust me" or something like that?

The way the loyalty deck works now is that there are more loyalty cards in the deck. Also, most times you'll be adding a "you are not a cylon" card to the loyalty deck in any case where you have to draw a new one, such as when you are executed. This Loyalty deck can still have the 2 cylon cards.

The Final Five and Personal Goal cards are mixed into the normal Not a Cylon cards, forming the Not a Cylon deck.

You must reveal the card the moment you complete your personal goal. Thus, the only way to avoid revealing it before 7 distance is to avoid completing the objective until late in the game. However, late in the game is when things usually start getting really bad, normally not a good time to be doing the things that these goal cards make you do. Sometimes, you might not even have the time to complete them, and leaving these uncompleted can make you lose resources at the end.

If you draw a new loyalty card, there are generally more Not a Cylon cards than cylon cards, personal goals, or final five cards.

And yeah, you can say you've got reasons to do something. Then again, Cylon players can do the same thing. ;)

I'm pretty sure that this isn't true. The rules say that "Each of these Loyalty Cards has an action printed on it that allows the player who received it to reveal the card." (p.10). So I think it works like the "You are a cylon" card - they allow you to take the action of revealing the card. Which also explains why the rules note that the goal has to be "currently true" for you to reveal it. That's also what people on BGG are saying.

Also - if you reveal it and take a new loyalty card, you can become a cylon that way?

Hmm... looks like it is an action.

And yes, you can become a Cylon, or even the Sympathizer, through this, but it's got about the same odds as becoming one through the sleeper agent phase.

But another thing to remember is that, while doing your goals, you're going to be screwing people over. That's Cylon accusation bait right there. Not to mention Cylon players can just hint that they're fulfilling a goal that they won't reveal until later. So you have to choose how sneaky you're going to go about it.

Revealing your card allows you to prove your loyalty then and there, while still leaving some mystery since you drew a new one. It literally proves that you are (or were) human, which is a rarity in this game.

And, revealing takes one of your precious few actions, do you really want to waste a late game action that could give you the win?

Everyone will be getting their loyalty cards tonight.

I suppose if the humans are doing poorly you could try to complete your personal objective early in the hopes of becoming cylon as well. :)

Everyone has been sent a link to a web page that will contain all the up to date info them.

We'll move all discussion over to the active game topic here:
