My heart's devotion....

Sign up here if you'd like to participate in a me-managed, play-by-forum game of Puerto Rico this summer or fall. We'll probably have more sign-ups than slots, so I'll likely run it twice.

(If you're unfamiliar with the game, watch the well-organized half-hour video introduction here.)

Rules (PDF, 3MB).

PUERTO RICO - A GENTLE INTRODUCTION, 1: people and stuff
* Victory Points, Colonists, Crates of Goods, The Broad Flow of the Game, The Governor, The Trading House

PUERTO RICO - A GENTLE INTRODUCTION, 2: construction
* Doubloons, Buildings and the Bank

PUERTO RICO - A GENTLE INTRODUCTION, 3: ag & industry
* Plantation and Quarry Tiles, The Player Board

PUERTO RICO - A GENTLE INTRODUCTION, 4: roles
* Roles, Rounds and Turns

PUERTO RICO - A GENTLE INTRODUCTION, 5: notes
* Rules, House Rules

PUERTO RICO - A GENTLE INTRODUCTION, 6: buildings
* Production Buildings, Short Beige Buildings, Tall Beige Buildings

PUERTO RICO - A GENTLE INTRODUCTION, 7: the flow
* A flowchart of roles and resources

PR is one of my all time favorite games, so I'm tempted. If you need to or would appreciate filling in vacant spot, let me know. Otherwise, I need to remember that my attention span for these things ends up being very short and the positions is better filled by someone else.

I'd play but I've grounded myself from forum board games until I finish up my Arkham one.

I think the easiest way to cut the Gordian Knot is just to update the Arkham thread and say, "Due to El Guapo's heroic actions, the Old One is completely defeated! Everyone is saved! Game over! Hooray for El Guapo!" I mean, that's what was going to happen anyways.

This Board Games with Scott video does a fairly good job of explaining the basics to those unfamiliar with the game, though I look forward to the Grundbegriff tutorial.

Yes-- that would be the video to which I linked in the initial post. ;) (Although I linked directly to its YouTube instance; the one at Vimeo is in a lower resolution for some reason.)

Game 01: Transit of Venus
  • Chaosraven (sooner)
  • El Guapo (sooner)
  • LordMortis (later/filler)
  • Qantaga (later/filler)
  • Newcastle (after a fortnight)
Game 02 and/or Game 03
  • triggercut (later unless sooner)
  • bb2112 (later)
  • Remus West (later)
  • Lagom Lite (later)
  • Vorret (later)
  • noxiousdog
  • ?
  • ...
Since 5 is a good number, and it looks as if we'll have at least 10, and some folks might want to repeat, we may well have to run three games in succession!

LordMortis and Remus West have indicated a desire to play, but not necessarily to play right away. LM asked to be a second (in case we need to fill a slot or replace someone), and Remus is lost in Arkhamville for the foreseeable future, and perhaps beyond.

For the rest of you: feel free to express a preference from among {FIRST GAME, A LATER GAME, WHATEVER}. I'll take preferences into account, and then fall back on random.org to select if necessary.

Also, folks not on the list are still welcome to sign up!

I'm good either way.

I'm happy to wait until Game 2, since I'll be starting up the Game of Thrones soon.

However, since it looks like a lot of us are kindly deferring, I'll also glady fill a spot in Game 1.

I'll be away from about 14 June through about 19 June.

I'm considering starting the first game either on 05 June, in honor of the transit of Venus, or on 20 June (right after I return). The appeal of the former is that we start sooner; the appeal of the latter is that there'll be no pause.

Edit: Let's lock it down for 20 June and see whether that's clarifying.

If I changed the starting date from 20 June to right now, who would be able and eager to join? (Note-- this would entail a hiatus from 14-19 June.) If folks are ready, I'm ready.
