Ship 2 Corn (fills corn)

Should be able to ship my coffee between EG and Qs pair (room for 5)

And send off one lonely crate from my 1 corn, 1 sugar, 1 Indigo on my newly acquired WHARF for one lousy stinking point.
(I hate ElG forever, just so you know)

Figure LM gets to use his wharf for either 3piece.
Q gets just the coffee.

ElG has a decision to make on how he ships (SEND TOBACCO TO SCREW NC, COFFEE IS IN NO DANGER) <--- hint
"Where are you off to?"
"I don't know," Snufkin replied.
The door shut again and Snufkin entered his forest, with a hundred miles of silence ahead of him.

IIRC the boats have

slots open: Corn 3 (-1 NC, -2 CR) = 0, Coffee 5, Tobacco 2.

Indigo and Sugar only ship on wharf.

I was getting 3 points out of the deal no matter how you sliced it. Its who i denied 1 point to that was the crux to my decission CR. And i decided to screw you pikachu!...well since i looked back on all the logs and noticed you'd been selling like a mad man...i figured i might as well give Elg a point over you....

Playing Captain rather than Craftsman at this juncture, so folks wouldn't get to produce more coffee, was evil. Well played.

Newcastle plays Captain
Newcastle has corn1, indigo2, sugar3, tobacco2
Chaosraven has corn3, indigo1, sugar1, coffee1
LordMortis has corn3, indigo3
Qantaga has sugar1, coffee1
El Guapo has sugar1, tobacco1, coffee1

Cargo ship #6, for corn, has 3/6 full.
Cargo ship #7, for coffee, has 2/7 full.
Cargo ship #8, for tobacco, has 6/8 full
  • Newcastle adds corn to cargo ship #6, bringing it to 4/6. (N: +1VP)
  • Chaosraven ships 2 corn, bringing #6 to 6/6. It's full. (C: +2VP)
  • LordMortis has only corn and indigo. Since he has them in equal measure, it doesn't matter which one he wharfs. (LM: +3VP)
  • Qantaga has sugar and coffee. There's no sugar boat, so he puts ship #7 at 3/7. (Q: 2VP)
  • El Guapo has sugar, tobacco, and coffee. He ships tobacco, putting #8 at 7/8. (E: 2VP)
  • Newcastle cannot ship corn, indigo, or sugar. He ships 1 tobacco, putting #8 at 8/8 (N: 1VP)
  • Chaosraven ships coffee, putting #7 at 4/7. (C: 1VP)
  • LordMortis has used his wharf and has no more shippable products.
  • Qantaga has no more shippable products.
  • El Guapo ships coffee, putting #7 at 5/7. (E: 2VP)
  • Newcastle has no more shippable products.
  • Chaosraven ships one crate of corn, indigo, or sugar via his wharf. (C: 1VP)
  • El Guapo has no more shippable products.
  • Chaosraven has no more shippable products.
Total crates shipped:
N: 1corn, 1tobacco == 2 (+1 captain)
C: 2corn, 1coffee, 1indigo (xor 1sugar) == 4
L: 3indigo (xor 3corn) == 3
Q: 1coffee == 1 (+1 harbor)
E: 1tobacco, 1coffee == 2 (+2 harbor)

Total VPs earned:
N: 2 + 1 (role) == 3
C: 4
L: 3
Q: 2
E: 4

  • Builder (+0) EG
  • Captain (+0)
  • Craftsman (+0) <=== no VPs possible now
  • Mayor (+1) Q
  • Prospector (+0) <=== no VPs possible now
  • Prospector (+1) <=== no VPs possible now
  • Settler (+1)
  • Trader (+0) <=== no VPs possible now
Chaosraven's selection.
Then LordMortis's selection.
Then we do some match, I reveal my Top Secret Spreadsheet, I declare a winner, and we make Daiquiris!

The only outstanding question is whether anyone will choose Settler and give Qantaga that extra VP. The outcome of the game doesn't hinge on this, though the precise VP count does.

Should I assume they won't and close it down, xor shall we go for strict correctness and let the last two selections play out?

Tie breaker is doubloon, with each crate on hand counting as a doubloon.

BTW, FWIW, after Captain, the following crates are on hand:

Newcastle has tobacco1 (board), sugar3 (sm warehouse). // burns 2 indigo Total: 4
Chaosraven has corn1 (board), sugar1 (sm warehouse). Total: 2
LordMortis has corn3 (lg warehouse). Total: 3
Qantaga has sugar1 (board). Total: 1
El Guapo has sugar1 (board). Total: 1

We're going to let the folks who haven't played yet have a chance. Then the veterans can cycle through.

BTW, cash on hand after Builder is as follows:

E: 1db
N: 0db
C: 2db
L: 3db
Q: 2db

After Captain, people were left with these crates on hand:
El Guapo has sugar1 (board). Total: 1
Newcastle has tobacco1 (board), sugar3 (sm warehouse), indigo2 (lg warehouse). Total: 6
Chaosraven has corn1 (board), sugar1 (sm warehouse). Total: 2
LordMortis has corn3 (lg warehouse). Total: 3
Qantaga has sugar1 (board). Total: 1

So total tie-breaker values (not counting anything accrued in the next two turns, C & LM) are:
E: 2
N: 6
C: 4
L: 6
Q: 3

Of course, these values come into play only if there's a tie for 1st place.

Or vice versa, to provide insurance against a tie for first.

That's a good illustration (hey, newbs!) of why it's worth allowing things to play out.

Thanks. I had made twothree mistakes on Newcastle:
I only stored 1 of his 3 sugars in his small warehouse.
I overlooked that he had 2 indigo, not 1. Not that it mattered.
Edit: and I failed to store his indigo in his large warehouse. Fixed above.

Here's a correction of his cleanup after Captain:
* Newcastle has tobacco1 (board), sugar3 (sm warehouse), indigo2 (lg warehouse). Total: 6

I have 1 colonist on my small warehouse

I also have 1 colonist on my large warehouse....(placed this turn, check when Q did the mayor thing)

so in theory i think i have a total of 3 goods that are prevented from being spoiled right?

So my indigo should be protected right?

You do not have a colonist on your large warehouse. It was purchased during El Guapo's Builder, right after Qantaga's mayor.

Here are the results of Chaosraven's Craftsman turn, with everyone on max:

C produces 3 corn, 2 indigo (including bonus), 1 sugar, 2 coffee
L produces 3 corn, 4 indigo, 1 sugar.
That depletes the available corn crates. Nobody else will produce corn.
Q produces 1 sugar, 2 coffee
E produces 1 indigo, 1 sugar, 2 tobacco
N produces 1 indigo, 1 sugar, 2 tobacco. (Out of sugar at this point)

In total:
E: +4
N: +4
C: +8
L: +8
Q: +3

Previous tiebreaker totals were:
So total tie-breaker values (not counting anything accrued in the next two turns, C & LM) are:
E: 2
N: 6
C: 4
L: 6
Q: 3

So new tie-breaker values are:
E: 6
N: 10
C: 12
L: 14
Q: 6

After Craftsman, LordMortis takes Prospector for +2, completing the game with 5 db and a tie-breaker value of 16.

OK, folks. Here comes... The Concluding Write-up!

THE END: Puerto Rico, Game 01: Transit of Venus

Post by Grundbegriff »

Image

The first of July began as a day like any other. Humidity infused the tropical air with a sense of oppression, while the cooling breeze from the sea helped to lift it... for those who were free to traipse along the beach. Everywhere one went on the island, one could smell faint whispers of indigo, tobacco, and coffee.

Like any other day, this day saw the traffic of ships, and one of those ships carried inbound "colonists". But this time there were unusually many, and this time they carried a product seldom seen among the crates coming and going: firearms.

They stormed the plantations first, adding to their number those who worked the fields. Then, from compound to compound, factory to plant to warehouse, they ran riotously and proclaimed the favorable day of their liberation.

Soon, the five most prosperous land owners, and their families, had been rounded up, bound, and brought to the grandest plaza in San Juan.

"You, El Guapo. You have been the most diverse farmer, the most prodigious builder of cities, the grandest entrepreneur of all. First in holdings, first in prosperity, first in pride-- you shall be the first to die."

With that, they threw a burlap sack over his head, tied a noose around his neck, and hanged him from the wrought iron of a sign that protruded from his own facility there on the square.

Next to go was Qantaga. "They said that you, like your dead companion, were new and green and just trying to learn. But you repressed and exploited my people in your pursuit of filthy gain. Your punishment is twofold, for now you die before the living eyes of those you outran, but you see in your superior a precursor to your own fate!"

"You 'colonists' have an awfully literary way of speaking."

"Shut up! Shut up and die like the man-stealer you are!" By this time, the crowd had assembled a crude scaffold made from corn stalks, sugar cane, and ropes culled from the rigging of outbound ships. From this raw but hearty armature, they hanged Qantaga, and poked him a few times for good measure.

Next to go was LordMortis. "You're the village elder, so it is good that you die next. You serve as an example to your weaker brethren." After binding LordMortis to the armature and slitting his throat, they tied Chaosraven, and then Newcastle, to the armature. Side by side they stared at their former servants, now the masters. Together, they wept as each was set alight.

The acrid stench of burning flesh lingered in the plaza for days, until the wind washed it away. And the self-liberated slaves lived happily ever after... until the next round of...

Thank you for running it Grund. Was a lot of fun. I thought I'd be closer than the rear, at least I have CR for company.

In hindsight I think i made 3-4 critical errors. Starting early I should have gotten a quary instead of a plantation i think. I also probably should not have craftsmaned a few times. Because the second I did that...CR went the trader route screwing me of money. I probably also bought the city hall a bit early and should have bought a factory/harbor at that juncture. Ah well, lessons learned.

Good game all. Was a blast to play. Cant wait to play again. Maybe we can scrounge together a guerrilla game?
