4th gear, one tire and one brake...11 or 12 eliminates me, 10 leaves me with no brakes and spun out, 9 is no brakes and 1 tire but still OK, and 7-8, I'm OK and looking at 5th gear for the finish. So a 50/50 chance.

Interesting, isn't it?

Well. Guess there's no more putting it off. Since Issie was a DNF, I'm feeling somewhat obligated to keep the car on the road and at least get us a couple of points.

OK. 3rd gear.

Dammit.

Coop and Nick, here's your chance.

And no, don't tell me what my 4th gear roll was. I don't wanna know.

You have a pretty good path for 4th around the outside then dive to the inside at the end. You have no risk of destruction.

I missed the risk with only having one point of shocks, but I consider that an acceptable risk... for you.

You guys forget that I have soft tires on, so I can only do one space over the turn - a 12 means my tires go to -1 and my car is scrap metal, so it's not quite as clear cut.

With 3rd gear, I have a 50% chance of getting the "optimal" result (7s or 8s).
With 4th gear, I get my optimal result on an 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, but crash and burn on a 12.

Eh, you know what, let's go 4th gear. (que the 12)

Gear selection is now moot. It's a drag race to the finish.

coopasonic (Yellow 1): 5th gear, roll is 11. This gets his nose just over the line for 2nd place.
NickAragua (Blue 2): 5th gear, roll is 20. He goes sailing past the line, sails through Nord Kurve, and overshoots, blowing out a tire as he exits the turn. :) But he takes 3rd place.
hentzau (White 2): 4th gear, roll is 9. He shorts the line and limps across in 4th.

Final Results
  1. bb2112 (Yellow 2) - 10 points
  2. coopasonic (Yellow 1) - 8 points
  3. NickAragua (Blue 2) - 6 points
  4. hentzau (White 2) - 5 points
  5. El Guapo (Blue 1) - 0 points; DNF
  6. Isgrimnur (White 1) - 0 points; DNF
Team Rankings
  1. Yellow - 18 points
  2. Blue - 6 points
  3. White - 5 points

First, your RNG really likes extremes.

Second, a couple weeks ago I was thinking about giving up. This is not a game to give up on.

Third, these turns are theoretically taking place simultaneously. I've read a minor adjustment to the rules that I like where when multiple cars cross the finish line in the same turn, position is based on what percentage of the roll was required to reach the finish line. This makes more sense than giving the position to the car that was half a space ahead at the start but rolled half the speed for the final roll.

I was going to propose this before the final rolls were posted, but I got tied up at work. If people want, I am fine with applying this rule here retroactively and going forward as it is more logical than what just happened. If people don't want, good luck catching up with team yellow. ;)

Thanks for running again, Isgrimnur. This was a lot of fun. I feel bad that your car fell apart on a 1 in 400 chance though. Whenever I complain about my dumb luck rolls, I will always remember you. :)

We can certainly make the adjustment for the next race if a majority of parties agree. It might have changed lead-in actions as well if that was a known factor.

Thanks for playing, guys. Hope everyone had fun. And yes, the 1/400 result was certainly a lowlight of my gaming career. :)

At the moment, my thoughts are to set up Race 2 of the league for January after the holidays.

I would agree for a beginning of the year setup for the next one.

And yeah, thanks again, Issy. Fun even if I somehow let coop beat me. :-)

Next year sounds good. Good game, folks.

I gotta say, I'm not sure how I feel about those soft tires. On the one hand, they give you much better flexibility at lower gears to avoid undershooting, but, on the other hand, two tire points per overshoot is pretty rough.
