Dungeonbowl - Any interest?

Postby Sectoid » Fri Jul 06, 2012 7:13 am

Dungeonbowl is the next exciting Blood Bowl online experience, set in the fantasy American Football inspired game world already adapted as a video game by Cyanide. The key difference between Dungeonbowl and Blood Bowl as is rather obvious from the name, is that Dungeonbowl is played in a dangerous dungeon!

So, I know some people on here have played Blood Bowl, just wondering if anyone has played this or wants to play this. I'd be up for it, but I'll wait to pick it up until I can figure out if anyone else wants to play. I picked up Blood Bowl, but got it after everyone else was done with it.

Here is the link for the Steam page.

I'm going to manage to post here without ranting about Cyanide's Blood Bowl version! I'm so proud of myself.

I did take a look at this. Doesn't look super interesting to me - more like a random wacky game that takes elements from Blood Bowl. Plus from the website it looks like there are only three teams, though there was a "coming soon!" marker - not sure whether that meant that they were going to reveal them on the website soon but they were in the game, or whether they were going to be added to the game later (my guess is the latter from their Blood Bowl game). And not only were there only three teams, but they didn't look that different - generally the same races making up the colleges, just in different numbers.

Anyhow, I'd be interested in reviews, but probably pass, especially since it would violate my goal of never giving Cyanide another dime.

Still waiting for a DRM (or at least significantly less invasive) free version of the original.

I *could* have pirated the damn thing years ago, but no. Doesn't matter how low it goes on sale, at least for me.

Not sure what El Guapo's issue is, but if Dungeon Bowl is less DRM'd, I'll take a look. Not holding my breath.

El Guapo, I can understand that. I never got to play multiplayer in Blood Bowl so I figured I'd ask if anyone was going to play the new one.

Aside from other issues, there is no single player element, so that kills it for me.

Makes sense. Basically, at least from the perspective of someone who played the Blood Bowl boardgame, they made a lot of terrible design decisions, so I'm suspicious of the game since I assume that they haven't suddenly figured out how to make good decisions.

I didn't think the design was the bad. The AI could be a lot better and the campaign better at scaling and UI could use better mouse overs and an undo button (until you force a reaction) but I thought the eventual release was acceptably good.

I think that anyone who ultimately paid $50 (for an unplayable game) + $20 (for a bad upgrade) +$15 (for the upgrade that finally made the game what it was supposed to be) over the course of two and a half years was a sucker. (I was only minorly suckered as I could see the original release candidate was so far from the game I needed it to be that I waited and waited and waited)

So now Cyanide is in the permanent wait for a deep discount and someone else to buy it and review it first category.
