EQ2: Performance

Post by tals »

OK still debating this one. I have:

AMD 2.4
Geforce 4 ti4400
512MB PC133 memory

Will the game run acceptably, I don't mind tweaking the graphics down. I have a flat screen so resolution really likes to be 1280x1024

Anyway be interested in views on this. Increasing the memory is not an option :)

The 512MB RAM is going to be your biggest bottleneck. EQ2 is a RAM hog.

ran it on my 2ghz laptop with 512MB RAM and a Radeon 9200 Mobility card with no problem. I had the graphics pretty low, but it was smooth and playable.

Just depends on how much graphical quality you're willing to sacrifice. With your system, you WILL have to turn some stuff down (but probably not to the extreme I had to on my laptop). If you don't mind doing that, then you'll be OK.

Real difficult one, with the graphics turned down on your 2Ghz - did it still look better than say EQ1?

Yeah for sure, still looked better than EQ1.

And there are a LOT of graphic customizations you can fiddle with. You can tweak shadows, lighting, vegetation, etc. I'm confident you could come up with a combination that would be a satisfactory balance between performance and quality.

Guy I play with has a Pentium 1.6 ghz, 768 MB of Ram and using a TI4200 Geforce card. He says he's running it with high textures at 1024x1080. The default settings are medium, and I don't doubt you can run it at that @1280, though the vcard is a bit dated.
