I love this game but never finished it. Now I've got a reason to go back. This patch is 160 megs and contains new infantry, new vehicles, new maps, etc..

Awesome. Thanks for the tip. I have no interest in multiplayer but this might be just the ticket to get me back to the single player campaign. I set it aside for other games about 1/3 of the way through.

I have one of the camera tweaks installed... I hope it works with the patched game because being able to zoom in close makes it so much more fun. Too bad they didn't change the camera settings in the patch.

From the official site:

>Improved inventory sorting
>Equip / search / pick up / use all while lying prone
>Units now have weapon specialisations (visible on HUD)
>New rocket launcher trail physics and balancing
>Server browsing support
>Various levels of game speed not just ‘normal’ and ‘slow mo’
>Players can place marker points in multiplayer to aid communication,
i.e. calling in coordinates for artillery
>Brand new buy dialogue, command points and money system for
multiplayer
>Grenade throwing speed increase
>You can now melee attack units that are on the floor
>Bazooka infantry can run whilst bazooka equipped
>Mines will now go off from nearby explosions
>Mine detector works by just equipping, i.e you don’t need to use the
‘use’ key any more
>Anti-aliased fonts in front-end
>Items in shallow water can now be retrieved
>Fog of war can now be enabled in single player

Fog of war can now be enabled in single player
oddly enough, i'm kind of looking forward to this one. if i recall correctly, i always felt like it was cheating a bit to be able to see the whole map in SP. (although it may interfere with the camera patch, which i use as well. i'll try it out tonight when i get home and post results)

as for the starforce thing, yeah it does suck. i guess i'm not as outraged by it as most since i still install games that utilize starforce. never had any problem with my dvd drive so it's never impacted my ability to play.

hepcat,

What does the camera patch do? Are there any other good mods, user patches that are good for this game?

The camera patch unlocks the view in Soldiers that you can zoom all the way down to the ground, look up, etc.. it's basically the same thing as the camera unlock patch that came out for Neverwinter Nights soon after its release. unfortunately, if you pan up, you don't see sky...simply a colored void.

Go to http://www.esaclan.com/forum/dload.php? ... &cat_id=26 and look for the "view angle mod 2". the only other mods from that site that i've used are the weapons stats mod (puts a little more info on the weapons when you mouse over them in game) and the sky mod (although I had some trouble with it and stopped using it).

In terms of the MP aspect it totally refreshes the game. Played last nigh on just the team death match 3 v 3. Of course it feels bigger than that as you are able to control more than 1 soldier. In team death match each player starts with a set value say 5000$, from that you can buy men (particular types eg MG etc) and all the vehicles from the game. As you kill people you get mor emoney and you get money with time. Game ran faster than it did with the old version (I hosted) and previously my machine would struggle but not this time.

We played for 4 solid hours! 2 friends of mine and 3 others who joined us - a mark of the game that noone dropped out in that time.

Its got Starforce in it and i'd love to see a thread in the game area of Soldiers forums

http://community.codemasters.com/forum/ ... orumid=230

Titled something like I'd get the game but for Starforce - or whatever. I can't post that as I obviously have the game lol.

If you can get past the Starforce aspect then try it out - i'm sure its in the bargain bins now and it is well worth the money. If you have Panzers as well i'm sure you'll kick yourself when you get it.

Is a video that the devs posted which gives a good idea of the gameplay with the patch.
