the closest thing to a demo right now is trying out CounterStrike:Source or the stress test, but i don't think those would really be the best measure. from the way it sounds, however, the engine scales really well and people with older systems are getting good results. maybe if you post your system specs here, someone with a similar rig can tell you how the game works for them.

Right now I am running the game on this system.

AMD Athlon XP 1900(1.7GHz I think)
512MB PC 2100 DDR RAM
Nvidia Geforce 3 Ti 200 64MB
SB Audigy(the original)
80GB 7200RPM HD

and it runs perfect( ok a very tiny bit of lag very a second when driving vehicles) on these settings

Resolution is 1024x768
and all details are set on medium

Hope that gives you an idea. :D
Currently thinking of something clever.........

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz, ~2.0GHz
Memory: 256MB RAM
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400
Display Memory: 64.0 MB

i have had no real problem playing Rome Total War or KOTOR on this system.I have tweak everything alittle to increase smoothness.Anyone guess on this one if I could play either HL2 or Vampires Bloodlines ?Thanks

You should be able to play in 800X600 with most details.

My system is pretty similar to yours, except I have 512mb of RAM and a Gforce 5900XT. I can play it at 1024x768 with a mix of medium and high details.

More ram would really help if you can swing it. I'm not sure about XP Home but I know that Pro pretty much needs 256MB just by itself to run somewhat decent. That is on top of having Steam and HL running as well. Another 256 stick or better yet a 512 would help a lot.
