If it's a video game it goes here.

Rome TW - nasty crash bug

Post by The Mad Hatter »

It's a fun game but I keep running into a fatal crash during the battles. Not a crash to desktop either - this one takes Windows XP with it. Everything freezes, the sound gets distorted and that's it, reboot time. I thought it might be the sound but new drivers and different settings haven't fixed it. Has anyone else had this problem?

Generally I've had no problems with RTW but recently two weird bugs happened. One was a total crash requiring a hard reboot, though the music was still fine.

The other was a massive framerate drop in the middle of the battle for no reason I know of. My PC can handle RTW fine so it's certainly not a system specs issue.

These seem to be pretty rare anomalies for me though.

Geforce 4200 here.

It just crashed on me again. Sigh...I like the game but it goes back on the shelf until I can figure this out. Crashes to desktop are one thing, but I haven't had to reboot this much since I ditched W98.

My saved game got corrupted and it crashes to desktop anytime I try to load it. Checking the RTW forums, it looks like it's a fairly common bug (or, at the very least, not rare). A patch has been promised for a couple of weeks now. Hopefully, it'll fix the other bugs in the game.

Damn, that blows my theory that it's just crappy radeon drivers.
