Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

Post by Dirt »

This is a great game. I'm 44% through it. The only thing that keeps this game from being Ratchet and Clank good in my book is the way the game is set up so you have to acheive predetermined goals within each area of the map (a mini-map would have been nice too). Some goals are easy, some are frustrating (but not to the point of being unachievable) so that the 'flow' of the game get's interrupted. Overall, still a good game.

A friend of mine just lent me a bunch of games and oddly enough both Jak and Ratchet are in the bunch. Is this your basic platformer, ie alot of jumping? I ask because lately I seem to have no patience for basic platformers anymore.

Well, jumping is unavoidable in any plat-former but there's definitely more jumping in Jak and Daxter than in Ratchet and Clank.

I loved this game, got every power cell. Too bad the sequel was completely different, and completely inferior IMO.

Is the sequel more like Ratchet and Clank?

It's like half-assed GTA with impossible to control vehicles and way too many frustrating missions.

Ugh. I hear that the maps are too large too. I may skip straight to Jak III.

IMO the original Jak can't even sniff Ratchet & Clank's jockstrap because of the characters. The gameplay in both is great fun but OH how I hate the silent Jak and the arm-flexing Daxter and the way they lean up against each other back-to-back with their arms folded in smug satisfaction.

Ratchet has none of that pizz-azzy attitude and Clank is downright likable.

Yeah, I think it's ironic how Clank (the robot) is actually the conscience and the heart of the duo. Ratchet's happy go lucky adventurous attitude can in infectious.

Daxter is just plain annoying. Jak is... plain.

Sly Cooper and Sly 2 beat 'em both by a mile.
