Steam ID - Friends List

Post by Bakhtosh » Thu May 14, 2009 3:29 pm

The Consoles forum has lists of Wii, X-Box, and PS3 friends lists. We need our own. Since some of us are using different names there than our screen names here, this will be a cross reference.

I suggest posting links to our profile page. If you don't have one, under Community, go to Edit My Profile. You can create your custom URL there. Then just copy the link below and type in your URL name. As I get a chance, I'll consolidate the list (unless someone else would like that job).

It's a small Internet world, because I'm friends with that Butterknife, I play Left 4 Dead with him. I know him from another message board.

What? You tell him to give me back my nick, right now! Then have him send me a message so I can add him to my own friends list.

Yeah, that thought crossed my mind just now. On one hand, many of the Steam games are single player, but with leaderboards & achievements (Defense Grid), but the most likely use for this list is fnding other players for MP...

It's probably a good fit in both forums (I wish we could crosspost special topics like this), and probably doesn't need to be moved.

joined OO general, sent out some friend requests... If I want to join OO'ers in TF2 how does that work? I've used steam for 5 years and I have no clue how the social functions work.

Thanks for suggesting this, Bakhtosh. Nice idea.

Mine is:

http://steamcommunity.com/id/b_toast/

[turns out there are a few other people with the "Burnt Toast" tag already on Steam, and several obvious variants have been taken :(
So much for my feeling at least a little bit personalized. Oh well.]

I'm usually on at odd hours (after 10:00 or 11:00 EST) but am always happy to play with OO'ers.

Maybe it would be good to organize a Left 4 Dead Versus "training" game or 2 for newer players, with a few more veterans on each team to help ease the learning process. I've barely played any TF2 because I don't know the maps well at all so I am usually not a great help to the team, so I would enjoy trying to make the early Versus games more fun. The public games are even more of a crap-shoot these days, with usually many more jerks than friendly stranger gamer.

(Hmm. Maybe this last part belongs in the actual L4D thread. Oh well. Apologies for getting that in this one).

For those who don't have a custom URL, here's how you get one with a name of your choosing:

Just easier to remember your URL.

Having this list is nice because when you start a game (of L4D particularly), it shows you which of your friends are currently playing.

I haven't loaded up LFD of TF2 in a while. Think I'm going to check out TF2 tonight if I get a chance.
