I've started hollowing out the cliff behind the lavafall, replacing the cliff-face with glass to let the lava illuminate the inside.

The connection problems I had before seem to have gone away, thank goodness.

Can you see each other?

So, for now, this is not survival mode, right, because no mobs?

I restarted the server after I saw a lot of those disconnects, and that seemed to help. Everything looked okay, but I think something went wrong somewhere. Hopefully the new version will be a little more stable even.

Mr. Fed wrote:Can you see each other?

Yup you can pretty much do anything from the single player version now except there are no mobs and a few other minor things. You can see others, trade items, etc. now.

Note: Server has been updated to the latest MC server version and is back online now.

Edit: And furnaces are indeed working now! The little arrow doesn't update correctly, but you will get refined items out at least.

Is there any way to get the coordinates of your current location? I'm trying to figure out where I am in relation to everyone else's stuff. I wasn't paying attention during my initial wandering, so I have no idea where I am on the big map.

Nope. But now you can make a compass that will point you back to the spawn point:
_i_
ibi
_i_

_= nothing
i = iron
b = bloodstone

My excavation is progressing.

Image

I've hollowed out a large space behind the lavafall and replaced the cliff face with a huge glass wall. I've also replaced the crude steps up the right-hand cliff with an enclosed stairway, with windows that look out onto the bay.

You can't see it in this picture, but I've built a tall tower on top of the hill above my hideout. I had a ton of rocks serving no purpose, so I just started stacking 'em up until they were above the treeline. Then I jumped off. My next mission: build a ton of ladders so that I can get back up the tower.

That worked! The tricky part was finding some bloodstone -- I had to dig way, way down.

At the spawn point, I made an arrow out torches pointing to the southwest. If you follow that arrow, you'll reach a fortress (not mine). Behind that fortress, there's a ladder to a skyway that will take you to my home base. Visitors welcome -- feel free to excavate, since most of my hovel is a natural cave that hasn't been touched, except for a few torches here and there.

If anyone wants bloodstone/redstone, I just found a bunch in a huge, multi-chamber cavern deep below my base. There are about 100 pieces stored in the large chest just inside my front entrance; help yourself.

I've been unable to 'do' anything on the server yesterday afternoon and this morning. It'll only temporarily show my actions (placing block, dismantling fence) but then revert back in a few seconds. I've seen this happen before for short periods of time, but now it seems permanent.

Same here - it has been like this for the last couple of patches for me. I also have trouble with chunks of terrain that frequently fail to load.

So /iron and /wood no longer work? That's cool if so. But I don't wanna wreck anyone else's view by chopping trees in the common area. I always did this once not aware there may be commands. :oops:

Definitely some issues of being popped back to what I was doing a few minutes ago, things I'm mining resetting and me not getting credit for them, etc. But other than that, so far so good! Been touring some of your creations and made it over to "GARY". Am seeking a site for my base of operations.

Edit: My excavations have begun. I've marked my location with a torch-lit gravel "X" for my own reference the next time a shot of the entire map is generated.

Having less issues now. The occasional blocks respawn/fail to disappear. I am having a problem with furnaces gobbling up iron, though. But it's processing stone and glass just fine. And idea what happens if you leave materials in furnaces to process when you log out?

Edit #2: I have discovered I am not far from the main hub. I have added a small lighthouse viewable from the main tower.

Welcome aboard Sudy Nym!

Yeah those issues with popping around are usually just an occasional bit of lag, but sometimes the server gets bugged and can cause problems and suck up memory. I'll give it a check when I get home and make sure everything is still running okay.

I think items left in furnaces disappear when you log out or at least they time out after a while. I'm pretty sure stuff I've left in furnaces has been gone when I log in later. Sometimes it seems like furnaces get bugged. I've had the best luck by putting the furnace next to a wall with blocks places on either side before I place the furnace. That forces the furnace to face the correct direction when you place it, and as long as they don't get turned to the side they seem to work for me. I've been able to process iron, gold, sand, and stone that way.

I haven't checked lately, but /iron and /wood were working the last I checked. It's possible Notch turned them off though. This might be obvious, but make sure you hit T to open chat before you type those commands too.

Sudy's Mine, now open for sightseeing. Beyond my lighthouse (which is viewable from what I think of as the "far" tower, next to the rectangular building made out of half-height "step" blocks), look for the the lit-up "X" from my earlier screens. The mine is part natural caves, part man-made mining operation. It goes quite deep, hitting bedrock. Tried to make it as visitor-friendly as possible, widening stairs and adding signs, fences, and steps where helpful/possible. I'm afraid some simple jumping is still required to exit, though.

Collaboration is welcome, as long as you're not destroying anything I've built. Most of you are probably busy with your own projects though, I assume.

My camp is set up next to the entrance in some small "ruins" (viewable to the left in the first pic). If you need some redstone dust, please help yourself. I have more than I'll ever use.

Bumped into, I believe, Fraum? Had a short chat. He left due to lag, which again was a minor problem today. But not enough to keep me from getting a tremendous amount done.

I paid $13.91 in CAD. :P

That's like, $13.50 USD. It's an alpha, but it's worth it if the multiplayer server is behaving itself.

As for server info, anyone know if it's okay by Sepiche for us to give it out to any forum regulars? I would have to imagine it's fine, but I don't know the rules. :oops:

Certainly not as impressive as some of what you guys have come up with, but it's been a lot of fun working on it. I've tried to make it interesting with signposts guiding potential visitors, etc. I'm jealous of the mine with the torch arrow pointing to it that has water and lava! They're absent from mine.

Mobs aren't yet functional in multiplayer. 8-)

Not having to whip out a new pick every 65 strikes makes it worth it. Even if dropping a tool and picking it back up restores its durability, right now.

I made a creative server, so if you're more into just goofing off with editing stuff than trying to actually mine, here's the info:

Server: http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?serve ... 1eb1bf433a

About the server: It's just running off my home connection. When you connect, I see your name pop up and can give you editing rights on the server.

Useful commands:

Presently there are 3 worlds to play around in. I'll create more if asked, but it'll require a reboot of the server software, so be warned if you request it!
To get to them, type, "/wload iceworld" or "/wload flatworld" or "/wload treeworld"
