IGN even has a story on Uplay's trouble.

Well, yeah, they didn't anticipate trouble with authentication for one of the largest pre-ordered games ever. They deserve bad press

Given the availability of cloud services and the ability to stand up more servers through programs like Amazon's, how is this still an issue these days?

Dunno, but it seems like every major release they have it. Heck, they even had it when Steam had a 75% off sale on HOMM6 and there were a flood of new users. The complaints on the Steam forums were much the same as today with Watch Dogs. They have no excuse for not being prepared.

Other than big floods of new authentication, it's usually up. It's a shame they can't deal with launch issues... First impressions and all that

They just refuse to improve. They know once the new subsides it will work fine again and wont invest money in more stuff. They're cheap.

THIS.

Take 10% off the marketing budget and devote it to a launch day protocol that can be reduced down one week after launch.

Well I got in and played the first part and when I got outside the stadium and headed to the car it crashed and hard locked my system. Had to hit reset.

I've been playing most of the day and haven't experienced a crash yet. I will admit that it has been making my fans spin hard so after I notice them spinning loudly for a bit I have been shutting down to work on other things (I have a heating issue with my PC). Hopefully that's a one time crash for you.

All I needed to do was copy the cdkey from Steam and paste it in the box that popped up... Assuming you already had an uplay account

I got through the intro mission but man the police are relentless. They aren't as easy to lose as in GTA. Stealth is a must in this game. I LOVE it.

My favorite is to use the traffic lights and road blockers to cause an accident to take them out

They don't improve it because there is no incentive for them to do so. The issue lasts for a day, maybe two. It doesn't affect the preorders, as the money is already spent. It will be over before it can affect post-launch orders.

By the time their next big game comes around, most people will have forgotten about it. A few will bitch, but most of those will still plop their money down for the Next Big Thing.

Why would they spend their money to improve a system that is only an issue 0.3% of the time when they can just ignore it and never suffer any meaningful consequences?

I'm absolutely overwhelmed with all the options so far. I think the points of interest thing are neat but so far it's do easy to hack everyone I see. No challenge there at all. Maybe I need to play further into the main campaign.

Ya it seems to kinda play itself. And the key controls are bad. How is it wit ha 360 controller? Im reaching all over the board for keys...and I cant rebind some of them to where i want..I use arrows and I have to let go and reach over to the Q to hack.

Yea, did a couple missions but keep getting distracted chasing criminals and hack people/stuff. Made it a point to hack into those two towers right off the bat. Already have skill points I can't really use yet on stuff I want because I need to go farther in the mission.

Also, where are my opportunities to be a dick and ruin my reputation? Plenty off opportunities to prevent crimes but how about committing them?

I escaped from the cops and got in a tunnel and was driving fine and it hard locked my system again. Looks like a fun game but I may have to beg STEAM for my money back.

Did you check to see if others are having similar problems? I haven't noticed any crashing or people complaining of hard locks. I think the game runs hot and I remember you were having issues with that awhile back and hard locks tend to be hardware related

I just got a popup that there are Blume agents hidden amongst the normal people that will attempt to trace when you hack their phones. But yeah, right now I'm trying to ignore doing it too much as it's too easy and too distracting from doing the actual mission I was planning on doing :)

At least you guys are playing. I still haven't been able to launch the game since last night. This is such bullshit. I feel so ripped off.

you can play offline. You just won't have access to leaderboards and some of the multiplayer aspects.

360 controller works great! I haven't even touched the mouse or keyboard playing this game. I figured if you're buying it for the PC, the controller is a must for these types of games.

I can't even play offline. The loading bar teases me to almost launch and then freezes. I have to ctrl-alt-del only have find that the game has crashed.

This time I got on a roof, hacked a tower, went to climb off and I jumped instead....and it exited to desktop . Bet I died. No hurry to return and find out.

I dont know if its related to my WD troubles but my system just blue screened. I haven't see na blue screen error since about 1995 lol. No idea what caused it. I was watching a video on YouTube about Distant Worlds.

This place lists a whole bunch of problems/solutions that may help some of you having problem with the game.

Currrently - I'm not able to run it, but it did get me past my first problem... :?

I bluescreened last night playing this as well. Found out that it's a common issue with AMD cards and watch dogs as it's only optimized for nvidia (or so I've read). Though I've only had 1 bluescreen so far, however, I've had plenty of crashes of Watch Dogs.

For all my interest in this game, you folks are making me glad I didn't jump into it early.

Instead I discovered that I had Deus Ex: Human Revolution purchased and installed, but had never played it.

I have an AMD card and once I figured out I should'nt use ultra settings because of not enough VRAM, it's been really smooth. It's only choppy if I Alt Tab and come back.

You SHOULD use ultra cause you dont have enough ram ...or you shouldn't? Im using the 2 gig setting on Nvidia and it crashes.

Ya right before the game came out. That thing Nvidia installs keeps it up to date...which isn't always the best thing due to flaky drivers sometimes.
