I think you nailed it on the head there. Also, I wasn't pointing a finger a you, I've just been reading the Steam forums (oops!) and the official forums. It's too bad it's not your thing but thank you for backing it! It helped get the game I currently love built.Lordnine wrote:The flood of backers to PA shows that there is still a demand that is not being filled and I suspect a lot of those backers supported the game just because it was a new RTS, without considering if it was the type of RTS they really wanted.
I never criticized PA as being a bad game. It is almost exactly what they promised. I’m just disappointed that it’s not a game that I can enjoy.

Re: Planetary Annihilation [TA on Steroids][Beta!]
The game has had several significant improvements since release three months ago. They have an off-line DRM free server, ranked games with a ladder, and lots of other general improvements to the game.
It is on sale for 80% right now so it's a good time to take the plunge if you are still interested.

If you're still playing this and in it more for AI skirmishes or comp stomps, I've made a Queller AI for Planetary Annihilation as well. It's available as a server mod on PA Mod Manager.

Would you mind going over the steps to do this? It's fine if not. I just don't know how to set up server mods.Quitch wrote:Anyone who played Total Annihilation might remember my Queller AI. Or notMoat_Man wrote:Get the community mod manager here to check out some of the mods that already exist:

Easiest way is to download and install PA Mod Manager.Lorini wrote:Would you mind going over the steps to do this? It's fine if not. Then use this article to install Queller.

I've found a way to have different AIs fight (it's not quite perfect but it's good enough), so here's some videos of Queller taking on the default AI.

So, what was the final verdict on this one? It is available in a Bundle Stars bundle right now for $5 (for 10 games total.)

At that price, I'd grab it just for the 'play around with so much shit that goes boom' factor.

I think it's awesome. Just wrapped up a pretty epic 8v8 game. Also been receiving support from Sorian who is adding features and nailing bugs which help with my Queller AI development. There's also a 2v2 tournament tomorrow.Blackhawk wrote:So, what was the final verdict on this one? It is available in a Bundle Stars bundle right now for $5 (for 10 games total.)
I'd recommend that anyone who plays grabs PA Stats as it introduces an in-game global chat. Helps make you feel more like part of a community. It's also where the best games are arranged.

Re: Planetary Annihilation [TA on Steroids]
I'm in the "it's awesome" camp too. I bought it for everyone that had it on their Steam wishlist during OO's Wishlist-mas. I play a game every day (mostly solo against AI now) and I also lurk on the PA boards (shout out Quitch!). I should probably play vs humans more but I don't really know anyone. That reminds me, Quitch, if you want to friend me on Steam I'm at the link below or click on the STEAM button below my post. Love to play some games with you.

It was sad that the best caster ZaphodX burnt out and stopped casting games. I used to watch all his casts as soon as they came out. Marshall was pretty good too and together they were very entertaining.
However, I am excited about what I hope are some great Galactic War improvements coming on the horizon as well as asteroids after that. The game is still being actively improved and features are being added which is pretty cool for a game that has been out nine months. A lot of other RTS games die a quick death but PA has some staying power.

I'm going back and forth on it. On the one hand, I don't do much (any) multiplayer strategy gaming. On the other, it looks cool. Con, it is five bucks, which isn't pocket change for me. Pro, blowing thins up is always fun, and I loved TA.

Well there's some improvements for Galactic War (the rogue-like single-player campaign component) coming up, and obviously there's skirmish (and comp stomp).Blackhawk wrote:I'm going back and forth on it. Bored of the AI always using the same few commanders? Just download this file and pop it into \media\server-script\lobby
Now the AI will use every commander.

My physical rewards finally showed up--T-shirt, boxed disc and commander miniatures. Anyone interested in picking them up on the cheap? I'm not playing the game anymore and would rather they live with someone who's into it.

Is it worth $3.49?
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Re: Planetary Annihilation [TA on Steroids]
Global chat just got enabled for everyone. Look for a JOIN PA CHAT button in the bottom right of your screen.
Is that TITANS? Don't buy the original, buy TITANS. Not only is it better, you can also get the Legion faction which doubles your content.Isgrimnur wrote:Is it worth $3.49?

The community has been running a lot of big games on custom servers recently, and there's some now held every Saturday after the weekly Planetary Extinction event at 1330 UTC.
Here's a video of the latest 32 player FFA which you might enjoy.

As for my thoughts on the whole Insomnia Cosmic War thing... It was good to see life injected into the clan community, but then it came to the conclusion that we all knew it would. Icycalm is it too much of an ass for it to be otherwise.

Re: Planetary Annihilation [TA on Steroids]
Couple of tournaments happened over the weekend.
First was the latest Planetary Extinction match, where Black Sun Empire take on Pixel Soldiers. This features some dramatic multi-planet action. Video starts a little way into the game due to the streamer restarting a couple of times as their settings had their stream stuttering.
Also there was a distinctly last minute 1v1 tournament with some wonderful clashes of style between players of various leagues. If you only have time for one match I highly recommend the second game, FerretMaster vs. Robot Army. It starts at the 20min mark.

PA Titans is currently only $1 in the Humble Strategy Bundle. It's a standalone expansion, so you don't need to own the original game.
