Q: When will Galactic Civilizations III come out?
A: We don’t expect it to be ready for release for quite a while. As of this writing (fall 2013) it is in internal alpha testing. We expect it to go into the Founder’s alpha early next year and a public beta soon to follow.
Sounds like the wait has just begun! :?

Anyway, it's good news...potentially something that can break my years-long Civ 5 infatuation. I hope there will still be a player ranking system...I played GalCiv2 a lot more than I might have otherwise thanks to this feature.

This. I'm jonesing for a space empire game. Even played some MOO2 recently. Here's hoping they keep it true to its turn-based roots.

Meh. I found the previous two games in the series pretty unsatisfying and boring overall with some bits of interesting stuff mixed in from time to time. I don't see anything mentioned in the features about tactical combat so I'll assume they're going to leave that out again, even though they have enhanced shipbuilding in there. I found the shipbuilding to be totally cosmetic in in GalCiv2 and combat in general to be horribly bleh. The same for the tech research. Frankly, given the overabundance of space 4x games lately that have failed to hit the mark, I'm not sure I want to see yet another one. Especially just another rehash of the same general gameplay with a few tweaks, prettier graphics and bigger maps. Given how bad the AI is in FE, I have some concerns about that, too.

Not me. I'm done with that. I may buy it but it won't be until after it's out and I can see from the response in the forums if it's worth it or not.

I have to come up with an excuse to my wife to spend $100 for a game that won't be released for months . And I just picked the deluxe version of Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations from Matrix Games for just under a C note, so that doesn't help. Maybe if I let her name the star?

I see that all game updates will be released through Steam. That's better than what happened with the initial release of the first two games; a couple of times I ran into problems with the Stardock authentication scheme that drove me crazy for a while.

Question... how do I know my video card supports DirectX 10 or 11? It's an AMD Radeon HD 6570 if that helps.

Thanks for the info. I guess I could have looked it up, but I wasn't sure if it was a hardware thing or a software thing.

So, are we going to have any takers from here to get the Founders edition?

I bought the collectors edition of both the former games in the series but I just dont have any heart for this one...or cash. the trailer is cool focusing in on the humans but I have no idea what the game play is like. But I just dont have the interest in this like I would have had years ago.

The Metaverse was mentioned in one of the links. It really was one of GC2's strong points.

I came within a few thousand points of knocking you out of first place.

What can I say? I really liked GC2. After playing MOO2 again, though, I am hoping GC3 will add a tactical combat option. Emphasis on "option" because tactical is tedious in huge battles.

Yeah, I used to be embarrassed by how many hours I had in Civ 5, but now I know I'm a middle-weight. dbt reigns supreme!

I'm excited for GalCiv3. I'm sure it will be a good game -- that seems to be Stardock's style. Good games but not great. I'll still buy it though, I love good 4X games.

I am sure that I will rue those 2,949 hours when I'm on my deathbed, but it's not like I'm doing anything more worthwhile with my life anyway. I shudder to imagine the number of hours I've put into the entire Civ series.

I'm sure I spent at least a couple hundred hours in GalCiv2. Will #3 reach Civ levels of addictiveness? Perhaps if they hire me as a consultant. With my background in game development and my lifespan wasted on 4x games, I could give them the expert outsider's perspective that they need to transcend their design.

However, I'm awfully busy playing Civ 5. I would require at least one drum of money to set that aside.

I kind of wish Steam wouldn't show amount of time spent playing each game.

At least with World of Warcraft I can avoid typing /played to see how much of my life got sucked out of me.... :D

Thank God that can't be tracked, as I am pretty sure I would feel bad for quite a while seeing that number (Civ I through IV, total played hours).

Mercifully, I didn't buy or install Civ IV on Steam, so my hours in that aren't tracked either, and if there is a "total time played" stat somewhere in the options of the game itself, I don't even want to know about it.

I always played zoomed all the way out where I only see 2D icons. Does anybody ever really play zoomed in? I feel kind of bad for them, spending all that time and money on pretty 3D graphics that players will rarely if ever see.

I don't know how you can even play like that. I don't mean that in a condescending way, I mean I don't understand how it's possible. To me, it's entirely a big-picture game.

Does this thread know yet whether GC3 will have tactical combat? That's the only thing I'd zoom in on.

I tend to play at a zoom level that allows me to see as much of the greater picture as possible but also with functional detail needed to play. In Civ, I only zoom in when overlapping units make it difficult to choose the one I want. I never zoom in for aesthetical purposes.
