$10.19 on the steam sale right now, $19.76 for Galactic edition (base game, Earth Rising Xpac (which is $19.99 by itself and not on sale), sound track and the original 3 Star Control games.

What's the concensus? Good game? Get the xpac if I"m getting the base game or just get the base game?

I played SC2 and 3 (don't remember if I played 1 or not). Enjoyable enough (I liked 3 with the empire management, not that it was great, but it was entertaining enough).

I had fun with this one, tooling around the galaxy and exploring random worlds, the best part being discovering random aliens or ruins that have nothing to do with the main story. The storyline is pretty good, too. Combat is exactly Star Control.

I don't know about the expansion as I haven't bought it - I'd rather wait for the whole thing to come out than play it piecemeal.

The epic space RPG, Star Control: Origins released part 3 of its 4 part expansion, Earth Rising today. The Syndicate introduces two warring factions: the Liberators and the Syndicate, both of whom want the assistance of humanity and won’t tolerate anyone working for their rival.

What's the deal with that space station in the middle of the battlefield?

Funny enough, it's not actually that long. I'd say it's comparable to the original Star Control 2 in terms of length. Although you could obviously stretch it out by exploring random places around the galaxy.

I still really dislike those planet landings. I didn't like them from first sight in previews. I want to land like in SC2 or Starflight from Sega Genesis. Not run around a marble grabbing up dots.

Been thinking of reinstalling this but its still those stupid marble planets and eating dots that is keeping me from doing it. Its also the humor. Theres too much of it. "Oh theres those silly Earthlings" thing is too much. SC2 had some humor but it was a more serious game. And I much prefer a 2d overhead planet landing map. You should have to scan for minerals then mine them. Not run around pacman style grabbin peas.

Im giving this one a more concentrated try than my first go last year. I only got to the Tywom homeworld last time. Im here again. Ive mined my whole way here too. The Tywom really crack me up sometimes with their talking.

I do have 2 concerns so far.

1. Those markers for things on planets are just awful. Some of them I just cant see. Like the light grey ones. I can drive around and finally have to give up a lot. I wish I could mod those all brighter or all in color. Or all white so I can see them.

2. this game needs a better quest tracker. It has a captains log but you have to scroll through all your conversations to see what alien told you about what planet. Heck I dont even know my main quest at the moment never mind all the side things Ive been told. Yes in the old games I wrote it ALL down. Im not doing that. At least its in there somewhere but Id still like it better composed.

Im going to look for mods and see if there are some to fix these and other little things. Im doubting it.

EDIT: 3. Another little thing. I have a space scanner that marks planets with something interesting on them. But it would be nice for it to change to a different color once Ive actually visited that place so I dont KEEP going back and back.
