Dying Light?

Post by baelthazar »

Anyone know anything about this one? My brother-in-law suddenly started talking about it and how awesome it sounded (parkour, open-world, zombie apocalypse, survival sim), but I have not been following it at all. One thing has me a little skeptical - it seems to be made by the same group as Dead Island (which I found decidedly mediocre) and is being produced by Warner Brothers, which, other than a few of the lego games, has been pretty hit or miss. That being said, Warner Brothers also did Shadows of Mordor, which I loved, so I could be totally wrong.

Anybody have the inside scoop here? I have heard there will not be a review embargo, so it is highly possible that we will see reviews before the retail release.

It has been on my wishlist since I saw some info on it. Either from a 'con or something. Like you said: Open world, parkour, zombies. It looked and sounded really good. Who knows how it will turn out, but I'm pretty excited about it.

Well, I was interested in it, but I only have an i7 2.67 GHz CPU and a 660 GTX so think it's another one I'll have to pass until I can afford a new machine...which could be awhile :(

I started this up tonight and saw how complex the controls are and quit. Is it as bad as they appear? Also does a control pad work fine with this? I saw you can use one. I usually prefer shooters with my mouse so I can aim better. But theres SO many things to control Im thinking the pad may be better to use. Anyone use both and know which is better?

Controls are basically FPS, only difference is you can hold the spacebar to grab ledges and such.

This is not like mirror's edge with a bunch of manual jumping puzzles. Instead there's a lot of lock on and sticking.

I beat the game last month, so let me tell you, the controls are just fine. I primarily used an XBox controller, but I also used the keyboard sometimes, and it worked out well. As for the game itself, what it lacks in originality, it more than makes up for in sheer fun. To me, it was the best Spider-Man game I've played, just without the costume. Swinging around town using the grappling hook was one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a while. The combat is fun, too, and the story is clichéd but inoffensive, but the feeling of forward motion in this game was exhilarating.

Yeah, the little I played (computer isn't quite up to snuff to play it without too many hiccups) I didn't have any control issues. It was a game designed primarily for the consoles so I didn't even try to use the keyboard and mouse but went right to the XBox controller as I knew that's what they were assuming and I was not fighting them at all.

I just started and have many questions burning my mind.

1.What do I sell and what do I keep? Do I sell everything listed under valuables? Im selling my old worn out and broken weapons right now. Should I keep anything to repair and upgrade ot just dump for now? I have the big dead guy rebar and a couple pipes and stuff I keep on me.

2. Where do I craft at? I took the skill ebcause I broke my onlt lockpick and need a lot more it seems for cars and chests.

3. What is safe to store? Everything but my weapons between runs?

4. Should I be buying anything?

This is just at the start after the prologue.

Eventually, you'll want to buy some weapons, because it's just easier to find a good weapon at a store that's still full on repairs. You'll also be buying a lot of ammo from stores later on, and the guns in this game are very useful compared to guns in Dead Island. The gunplay in this game is pretty much spot on for a normal FPS.

You can craft at any time in the field. I don't think crafting materials take up inventory space, or at least they may in separate from your weapon and extras inventory.

More question time..

1. Every time you craft anything the OK box pops up. Can I turn that off somewhere? Its a silly useless box.

2. When you are in the crafting menu is there some way to show how much of an item you already have? Like I highlight firecrackers but want to see how many I already have sop I dont make too many. Is that possible? Ive seen other games with that feature. Feels wrong to not find it here.

Is there no way to fix heavy rebar, the kind you get from bosses? I have a good one and a broken one and cant repair either of them.

It's in the journal somewhere, check the tabs up top and in collectables. There's also things like voice messages left on phones to look for.

Some weapons, like the rebar, cannot be fixed.

No way to turn off the OK box. However later on you'll get the ability to craft multiples of something from one set of ingredients.

I just had my first night adventure and now they want me to do more. But I had to use all 3 of my medkits in that first one to make it back home. Is there no way to get medkit parts other than gauze in medicine cabinets and alcohol in fridges? I seriously need more of them.

Something else. Theres this one safehouse that is like a big power tower. I cant seem to fix it. I go in the fenced area and kill all the zombies then flip the power. Nothing happens. I then climb to the first lvl of the tower and it says to turn on the power. Is it bugged?

I may have asked that before..not sure. Memory. Didn't see it on a couple pages though.

Just survived my first night out. Got a big bonus for it too. But it was a bit easy the way i did it. I was on the bridge gathering supplies when it got dark. So I finished up and jumped off into the bay. I then swam around looting herbs from the bottom of the bay. Right as I got to shore where the trader is it turned morning and saiod congrats! hahaha.

I find I REALLY wish it had fast travel in it. Why in hell cant we FT to safe houses??

Also Im playing this and Far Cry 4 at the same time and I ge tthe controls to each confused all the time. Then theres the things I can do in one I cant in another. Ill get in Dying Light and cant figure why my fast travel isn't working at first or in Far Cry 4 Ill jump to grab a ledge and fall to my death before I remember its missing the way cool parkour that it SHOULD have in it.

I would like the fatigue thing removed. I dont see anything good that it adds. I can take only a few swings before Im give out and can only run so much. In a game with no fast travel and tons of zombies its just a solid wall to enjoyment. I have to run everywhere plus theres so many enemies it wouldn't matter if I never ran out of stam.

And give me fast travel argh.

And finally slow the weapon degradation down. Geebus I hardly get anything before its broken 3 times and gone. Thats just silly. In game I can kill maybe 6 zombies and thats it...and thats only when Im forced to. I think a wrench in real life would last a HELL of a LOT longer :)

If this is the main Dying Light thread, I'm surprised it didn't make it to a 2nd page.

In any case, Steam has a 4 pack for sale CDN$61.19. Not sure what that works out to in Ameribucks but it's gotta be the cheapest it's ever been on Steam.

Godhugh and I are looking for 2 more to make it a full team effort.

Any takers?

It looks like it's 61.19 US, so that's 15.30 per.

Some publishers (not many, but some) treat Canada as its own region instead of lumping it in as an extension of the US, and set prices in Canadian dollars instead of just converting from the US price.

K, we'll work something out. Do steam cards come in 15 dollar increments? You could just pm me the code and I could redeem them that way.

Hopefully people can wait until tomorrow night as I'll be at work during the day.

AFAIK, they only come in $20, $50 and $100.

We have until Jan 4th to figure it out, so no worries here.
