Wishmas 2015 Steam cheap game giving

Post by Daehawk »

Wanted to get this thread started. Is this going to be a thing this year? If it is then Im in and would like those who want in to post their names here. That way we can get a feeling of how many we have and give time for everyone to friend everyone on Steam to see wishlists.

Remember this is just for a cheap way to participate in the season. $1 - $10 games are the norm with most being $1 - $4. You do not have to participate. No one thinks less of you for not or more of you for it.

If you are in please update your wishlists or create one so others can find a cheap gift for you. You dont have to rank your games but you can if you wish. Mines a mishmash :) Ill edit mine to include cheap cheap stuff. And no one even has to get me one..it sounds like Im begging for a game but Im just trying to set this up and get it rolling.

This year will not be like last year for me guys. I had money to burn last year and this year Im barely buying food. But my wife helped me set back a little Steam money here and there just for this.

If we are not doing this then let us know in here also :)

Dae.

Thank you all.

EDIT: HERE is the spreadsheet for gifts given and recieved.

If it helps, here is last year's list and I added a tab for this year. Don't feel like you have to use it or fill in all the columns - just do what you'd like. Anyone who clicks on the link can use it - no need to sign in to your Google account (or to even have one I think).

And here is the info we found on when the sales will be:
The Autumn sale will start on 25 November and conclude on 1 December. The Holiday Sale kicks off on 22 December and closes on 4 January.

The information posted on the developer group also includes the following note:

“In past sale events, we’ve asked for two discounts—a duration discount that runs for the length of the sale, and a feature discount that runs in the event that a game is featured on the front page. This year, to optimize the sale for customers and to allow us to feature and recommend your products in more ways to more customers, we’re asking for just one discount, to run the length of the sale.

“We’ll still be highlighting top games on the front page for 24-48 hour spans, but those products will stay at their most competitive discount, before and after being featured. It’s not a major change, but it does make the sale a lot more valuable for customers, and it allows us to build sale tools that highlight and recommend products all sale long, instead of just during front page features.”
Edit: removal of erroneous apostrophe

Just an FYI - I'm looking at participating in the Christmas sale rather than this week. Seems too early for me - now get off my lawn. :)

So, what is my Steam name?

Reason I ask, is my username that I sign on with is different than my profile name.

Which name do people find me with? Also, how do you buy a gift for someone?

And when I know mine, I'm definitely in!

It seems like these sales keep getting less "fun". Just having a list of stuff on sale isn't the same as anticipating opening the sale page each day to see what was getting a deeper discount. I guess it helps from a planning perspective; I know where to apply my money right from the start. But I see no reason to check back each day like I used to, which provided some level of entertainment over the holidays.

Oh, and I'm in. :D

I'm pretty sure it is tied to the refund policy. Putting stuff on deeper sale later would just generate waves of returns, and everybody would always just get the best price anyway.

I love this tradition! Definitely in this year as well, most of my wishlist is games I'm just waiting on a sale for, and my backlog is big enough (roughly 100 games) so I'd prefer to just give. I've said that the past couple of years and someone always buys me something anyway, but I really truly mean it! I haven't even played Gratuitous Tank Battles yet, which I got last year and now that I'm thinking about it I'm feeling guilty about ...

I'm in when the end of year sale comes.
It's 109 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 61 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 24 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.

At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.
