They're now registering for the free open testing of this...5 years later. I thought it died actually.

Looks interesting - but I've become very leery of Ubisoft. I expect an overdone interface, a confusing system of menus, a convoluted advancement system (where you, perhaps, level your character, your ship, and your weapons separately with different skill systems), multiple currencies (Gold, UbiCoins, Dubloons), one of which is premium, another of which is unobtainable except in one hardcore PVP mode. The last can be freely earned, but at such a rate that it'll take you days of play just to repaint your hull.

I put three or four hours into Breakpoint this week (before saying "screw this"), so the irritation is still fresh.

I'd really only play solo too. The video did say all of the content was able to be played solo.

I mean ... it looks incredible. It looks alot like Far Cry 6 but still the locations look great.
IF it actually comes out in November it should get alot attention since all the other games I would have been excited about have delayed.

Ehhh I dont know. I know they also made one of my all time ever favorite games...Black Flag.....but Im not sure the seas and sailing and such look as good in this one as BF. I forgot if this is MP or not..if so maybe thats why it doesn't look as good to me. Then again these are just trailers they want us to see and the game may looks a bit different.

YouTube has a lot of information if you are curious: It's a good site for a lot of things like this, check it out: https://www.youtube.com/

There is a small text window at the top with a Search ability. Seriously a lot of stuff on this site, you will like it.

Ok, I've looked at a couple more previews. Seems like 80% of the game loop is a sea followed by outpost and dens for trading/upgrades/mission takers and then a few explorable islands (they seem to emphasize you won't be on land much). Even pillage of forts is done at sea. You attack the fort and send pirates in to pillage while you sail around and take out defenses and reinforcement ships. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I love exploration but they better nail the ship experience because that's pretty much all the game has. I am intrigued by the storms that you have to contend with and variable weather and winds. Still, I know come November I am going to want a new game fix and there just isn't that much to look forward to this fall.

Anybody else taking part in the closed beta of this? It seems to indicate it will be releasing in February '24.

It seems to allow you to play up to 6 hours this weekend. I've put in about 3 hours so far, and I'm enjoying it enough, but I don't think it's a good sign that it just makes me want to re-install Assassin's Creed Black Flag.

I dunno, maybe I'm too old and shaking my fist for a single player game. I just don't love seeing other players running around doing various quests and getting asked to team up to do something, when I just want to go about things on my own.

Thanks for reminding me. As a Ubisoft+ subscriber I got an invite but missed that it is now available. Installing... 44 MB/s :D

I tried to join but when I clicked the link there at the page it said
Sorry, your friend has reached their maximum number of invitees.
I probably should have just clicked to try it on Ubisoft's launcher instead of Epic.

I don't know how that happened, I only used one invite for Coop, and that was through the Ubisoft Client.

Anyway, I gave it a try for a little while, but meh, nothing that interested me.

I hear its a lot like Black Flag in its ship combat. Im betting that is what is taking so long for it to release..I think they went back in and redid a lot of stuff after BF came out.

That's because it was originally going to be a spinoff. The combat resembling Black Flag was the intent. But eventually they decided to rebrand it into its own thing. Aside from the combat, I doubt it's going to have many connections, if any, to AC.

Free open beta is under way mateys...download and play. Ive been trying for 2 hours. I keep getting an error after the download starts and crashes. The download servers must be getting hammered.

Still not gotten to play. The install crashed a couple times then when I try to play the game locks up during the intro. I have gotten the benchmark to run. On low I get like 54 fps. It looks fine from what I can tell. But I still haven't played the game yet..

Lately the Epic launcher errors when I start a game from it say like Fortnite. But then the game will continue on and load and play. Ive reinstalled the launcher with no help to that error.

I got it off the main ubisoft S&B page. It says its over for me too.

I hate these type 'open beta' things. These are not beta's in the least. A beta is a long time before release and lets you participate for weeks. Alphas and betas are meant to be testing..or they used to be and should be. now its a marketing thing.
