No wonder you go 7 months between posts. Relax a while and post a little more.

I'll try. How's this?Lassr wrote:Fardaza wrote:Steam says I've played 1,586 hours of the first game and 552 hours of XCOM 2! I love this game.

The first couple of months is the hardest. After that it gets a little easier if you don't forget and extend your troops too far in a mission. You do that and disaster can strike!NickAragua wrote:I'd like to try higher difficulty or ironman, but I already have a pretty tough time at the beginning of the game.

I'd agree. I wasn't finding the ending overly hard before. I've done it without ever buying a squad size upgrade and with 'Conventional' weapons (not the same run), both different Steam Achievements. So I've used a 4-man team (Psionic heavy), and a 6-man team with pea-shooters and Kevlar to take out the last mission.NickAragua wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2017 11:50 am Yeah, that's one of the problems that this expansion introduced: the end-game is trivial.
THAT is what Alt-F4 was created for... one shot crit-kills in full cover. Screw you stupid aliens. The Ironman save is created at the start of each player turn.Paingod wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2017 12:39 pm My only issue with Ironman is the stupid RNG deaths I sometimes get. It'll be hard to swallow that, especially early on before I get real armor and real weapons. I don't mind coming home with a squad of battered and bleeding soldiers, but I have trouble accepting that I can do everything perfectly and the game will still opt to randomly snuff a good soldier.
I really want to pick this up, but I've only played through XCOM 2 once, so I don't feel like it's worth it to buy the expansion after only 1 playthrough.coopasonic wrote: ↑Thu Aug 02, 2018 12:46 am If you played through XCOM2 a couple times and want something to refresh the game, the expansion will do it. It is a pretty big change to the game. If you want to wait for it to get cheaper, give the Long War 2 total conversion a go while you wait.
Also, it is $21.47 at green man right now.
The expansion really changes the game and makes it a much better game. Same story, but lots more options and development. An enhancement that makes the game better.Jag wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 9:26 amI really want to pick this up, but I've only played through XCOM 2 once, so I don't feel like it's worth it to buy the expansion after only 1 playthrough.coopasonic wrote: ↑Thu Aug 02, 2018 12:46 am If you played through XCOM2 a couple times and want something to refresh the game, the expansion will do it. I agree with this, I played The Chosen with the Alien Ruler DLC disabled and it was quite entertaining.coopasonic wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 10:59 am Just one more reason to disable the Alien Ruler DLC.
The Chosen make the alien rulers kind of redundant.
Good to know. Will probably wait for the price to come down a bit more, since I don't have time in my playing list right now.RMC wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 9:30 amThe expansion really changes the game and makes it a much better game. Yeah the rulers really room XCOM 2 for me. Then getting a turn every action I take makes the game of careful planning far less fun as so much happens before you get another turn. I really don't like them.Sepiche wrote:I think the only thing I hate about XCom 2 is the rulers. Which option is it at the beginning to totally remove them?
I feel like I've tried all the combinations of options like not integrating alien hunter dlc, and turning off the special missions, but they always seem to show up no matter what I do.
On the plus side, once they're dead, you've got some nice new toys and you don't have to deal with them again.Chrisoc13 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 04, 2018 2:23 pmYeah the rulers really room XCOM 2 for me. I keep putting it in my cart and deleting it. No way I'm playing in the next few months with my backlog and it will definitely drop in price by then.
I always played that way anyhow. After you've ridden the rails and seen the story end once, building up big flexible squads is the most fun part of the game. Losing to the timer was my biggest peril, especially in Long War, which wasn't long enough for me.NickAragua wrote: ↑Mon Aug 06, 2018 9:34 pm The main thing that the expansion does that the base game does not is that it not-so-gently a) encourages a playstyle where you have enough guys to fill out several full squads, so that losing a couple isn't such a huge blow and b) allows you to train rookies up without having to send them on missions where they will invariable get eaten alive.
So, it's not easier per se, but it's a little more forgiving.
