Looking for a turn based RPG dungeon crawler..
So...i'm looking for something like this...turn based combat, spells & sorcery, dungeon crawler, party management, rpg. (kind of xcomish but fantasy setting)
I tried to get into divine divinity 2 but combat is way too spread out amongst a lot of talking, way way too much talking in it. I just want something straightforward, I dont want to have to be too clever to figure things out. I'm still in fort joy and havent gotten past it, and honestly i just dont have the time to try to figure out where to go for stuff. Just point me to a dungeon to clear.
I do have pillars of eternity but never got past the prologue and that's what i am thinking i might go with.
Ideas?

Thanks to the both of you. Will look up those recommendations.
Also to clarify it doesnt have to be a dungeon crawler, just more combat would be nice and less talking. I'll try to jump back in to divine divinity and see if it improves.

Re: Looking for a turn based RPG dungeon crawler..
I found a game called Zavix Tower that is cheap and looks like a bit of mindless dungeon crawl (I think it is more like Eye of the Beholder than XCOM). There was also another game that came out recently, a sci fi Legends of Grimlock clone. I do not remember the name, but RPS covered it a bit back.
Although it is in Early Access, the game Low Magic Age is basically the combat from the old D&D games put into a gladiatorial style (you just set up and play combat after combat). I have no idea how it has progressed, but I enjoyed it when it first came out.

Re: Looking for a turn based RPG dungeon crawler..
Hmm Where do I start? I am obsessed with this genre and own pretty much all of them. Ill list some more obscure ones. I wont leave long notes but if you want to know something more in depth about a tittle just ask.
Bloobbers (WIzardry like)
Might and MAgic X : 4 man party, interesting classes. Lots of back and forths for unlocking areas, visiting trainers etc. I like it!
Starcrawlers : You run a Merceneary group picking up missions etc. Sci-Fi Wizardry clone. Light on plot but good stuff. Definite Indi effort but a solid game and scifi setting offers up something different.
Lords Of Xulima : Another Wizardry like. Havent played much but has solid reviews ans is generally well liked.
Grimoire : Spiritual succeesor to Wiz 7. Made by basically one strange dude. Needs more time to tweak but a really good game is in there somewhere.
Stranger of Sword City : IMO the best of the more Japanese style Wizardry's.
Isometric turnbased
Dungeon Rats : More combat orineted RPG by the Age Of Decadence team. Same engine but less talky talk.
Avernum Series : get the newest remakes on Steam. Old School, old graphics but good gameplay. I prefer them on my Ipad but solid games.
BAstard Bonds : Ugle graphics but solid combat in the litle I have tried.
More Casual:
Zavix Tower : mentioned above. Fun for quick action.
Monster's Den: Godfall : Based of a Flash game series but this is the latest and has a lot more depth. I really am digging this one lately. Great pick up and play for 20 mins. Almost too much loot to manage.
I am sure there is a bunch I am forgetting but this should get you started.

Excellent! I was actually looking at the avernum series to be honest. Nothing has cuaght my fancy yet. I am still gonna give Divine divinity a bit mor etime to see if it starts to shine. The basics are there, just way too chatty of a game.

They are standalone stories with completely different characters and settings. Returns came out first, but is the weakest. I'd start with Dragonfall myself (although I haven't played Hong Kong yet.)

Re: Looking for a turn based RPG dungeon crawler..
Yeah, that's the first one in the series. Dragonfall and Hong Kong are later in the series so they're a little bit less "on rails" and have some more character building options. Nothing wrong with Returns (now, there was a big beef with a lack of "save anywhere" when it was first released), just that Dragonfall and Hong Kong are more refined.

Re: Looking for a turn based RPG dungeon crawler..
That's a good one. "Criticized" as too hack-and-slash, too linear when it came out. Should fit the OP's bill. I enjoyed both IWD one and two.
Edit: I should note, the criticism came from those who loved the more dynamic feel of Baldur's Gate. There is definitely an audience for both styles of gameplay.
