Running into a bug that I can avoid, but not sure I can fix.

Right now, I have leveled, and I can pick a perk, but I can bring up the perk choosing screen. Normally I click on the character stats and perk, and it should bring up the choices after a click or two. Right now, it just freezes solid. ARGH!

If I don't pick that perk, I can keep playing. I wonder if it's caused by some other problems? As I've reloaded save games and this still happens.

Cleared a few more buildings in Seward square area, found the Ranger compound, decided it's time to go wake up Reilly.

Went to Underworld, told Doc Barrows to wake her up. Reilly gave me the code to open up Theo's ammo chest.

Fought my way through the lowest floors of the hotel, wasn't very exciting as Muties are all over the place. Elevator's dead, of course. Went back outside

Fought my way through the hospital, lower and upper floor. Didn't even bother to pick up hunting rifles. Just bullets and assault rifles. Finally found the bridge to cross over to the Statesman, and drop to find the door. Man, they really did rig the place up with lots of bobby traps. I thought I chose light feet (not trigger traps) but I was tripping them left and right. Fortunately I was on vanilla game so I can stimpak the crippled limbs directly. Grrrr.

Fought my way through the broken rooms, mostly with A3-21's plasma doing headshots on muties. It's tough alright. Finally fought my way up to the club level. And there was the problem: a Mutie overlord w/ a laser gatling. And he's mostly immune to my headshots. WTF?! His head is down to zero, but he's still shooting. When my health is half drained, I went into Pipboy and healed, then went grenade crazy. I tossed like 3 at the overlord, and collateral damage took out the rest of the muties. Scoured the level, found the Protectron with the fission battery (which is important).

Finally made it to the top floor, and I can hear the battle. I ran as fast as I could, but before I can reach the battle, I got a message "Reilly's Rangers is now hostile toward you"... WTF?

Reload, tried again. Same thing. WTF?

Tried one more time. This time, I left the weapon on my back (so I run faster) and used sprint too. I ended up climbing those stairs right after they polished off the most recent attack wave. Whew, seems I only have X seconds to get in place.

I passed the ammo I picked up to them, then readied my own arrangements. When Donovan signalled ready, I readied the plasma rifle, and went in. I shot as many muties as I can, but one of them has a minigun and I can't kill them fast enough. I lost two out of three rangers.

I figure I can do better, so I reloaded. This time, I popped jet and psycho, switched to my Xunglung (Chinese assault rifle) and charged out. I killed like 3 melee muties rushing us. I tried to engage the minigunner, but he's blocked by this walkway. I had to run forward to catch that guy in a crossfire from the rest. And voila, it is finally done.

Went back to Seward Square and explored my way to ranger compound. Saw a couple unstripped Talon mercs, probably fought muties and lost. Stripped them, of course.

With my Big Guns skill low as heck, I chose the Ranger Armor as the reward.

It kinda screwed up my setup as it only refreshed the EXE (undid the 4GB patch), the INI files (I already edited), and the ESM (which I manually patched as well) and so on. It wasn't a corrupted file that was causing my problems. Took me an hour to "redo" the changes.

Yeah, be careful with the checker. Hell, with Oblivion and Skyrim, I go to great pains to avoid ever even starting the launcher for the same reason.

Day 4 Part 2 is up --The Other Wanderer left Vault 106 behind, got into scuffles with raiders and muties, and finally ended up in Arefu to drop off a letter, only to encounter more intrigue and death!

And now, Day 4 Part 3! -- the other wanderer meets Talon company, gets a hint on what may have happened at Arefu, found a set of power armor from a dead Outcast, and diffused the Megaton bomb!

I have rough outlines until Day 11, where I emerged into the mall and ready to head into Museum of Tech for the dish for Three Dog.
Spoiler:
I think I want my alternate start lore to be that the story about the Lone Wanderer is mostly fiction. It was actually multiple android clones all doing separate quests, and being mistaken as the same person. By the time the news arrived at Three Dog the dates are confused and they were thought as a single individual. Any "conflicts" in the stories were chalked off as "mistakes in recollection". I think near the end, at the Purifier, I'll have my character realize he has more memories than he should, and he's really an android with implanted memories much like Harkness. Which makes him the logical choice to sacrifice himself to save the Wasteland.

Went through Red Ryder Factory, found special character "The surgeon". Very interesting!

then Flooded Metro and finally emerged in Arlington Library, had to explore all those flooded tunnels, looking for exits. Killed more than a few mirelurks. Used railway rifle almost exclusively. It's almost like a primitive sniper rifle, albeit without scope. And it really does nail heads left and right. Had to go past a Raider "toll point" (a bridge, complete with a turret), and a supply point. Killed everyone, then found a building where there are a lot of traps, including a turret. I already sniped the sniper from below, so I just have to be careful taking out all the mines and traps and whatnot. But the result is at least 4 safes up there plus misc other loot, including a workbench.

Went back to Megaton. I'm going to bring all the pre-war books first. Then I'm entering the library!

EDIT: I am adding the perks manually. It fits with my proposed narrative in my playthrough blog.

Latest Microsoft Creator's update is crashing my FO3 silly. It ran fine last couple days. Now it's freezing every five minutes. And the only thing that changed is Windows update. ARGH!

I'm looking up tweaks and it's messy. There's lots of little tweaks in ini files and whatnot.

Went through the Arlington Library, sold like 40 books to Scribe Yearling. Was about to start the battle with Sydney in the National Archives against the muties when the game crashed again. :-P

EDIT: I think I found the guide that fixes that problem. I can run the game stable now.

https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content ... ance-guide

It mostly applies to FNV, but just substitute the commands for FO3 instead.

The mod I put in earlier made the explosions too powerful. The mines Sydney put in the rotunda knocked me flat despite power armor and even crippled me and tossed me around, and basically killed her outright. I had to cheat and make her essential though a bit of console hacking.
Spoiler:
Face her and hit the key to bring up console, click on her to show her FormID, then use "gbo" to find her "base ID", then "setessential <baseID> 1" to make her impossible to die.
It's still freezing, just a lot less often now, and usually only between worldspaces (opening doors and it loads another zone).

Went through National Archives. Made a copy of the declaration (I could have taken the original, but I left it in the safe) as I've been to the library and gotten the ink already. Then went back to Rivet City and handed it over. As I found the note to Moonbeam earlier, Sydney handed over her gun. (FWIW, she's still wearing a gun when she walked away).

Okay, now it's time to head to the Jefferson Memorial and continue the main questline.

EDIT: Sliced through the muties guarding the main floor and basement. Found the holotapes. Now heading to Vault 112, but visiting a couple places along the way...

Decided to start from Jury Street and visit a few places along the way. Went west toward Fort Bannister, and killed all the Talon mercs inside. Haven't had a chance to open the bunker yet, and it has a VERY HARD lock so it may be a little while. Opened everything else and killed everything else too, including a few of the Colossal Deathclaws

I hated the tranquility lane section and I just went straight to the solution. Well, James does recognize me as his son. I just went along. But escort him to Rivet City, when we're jumped on the way way too many times by way too many enemies? And I can't give him any weapons or armor? WTF? We're jumped by just about everything on the way. About half way through I say F*** this, and fast travelled to Megaton Home to unload my loot. I'm NOT going to follow him on foot all the way across the map to Rivet City. :) He'll be there when I get there.

Come to think of it, I know what's going to happen next. The ONLY thing I'm afraid of on the way are reavers, and fortunately, those are few and far in between. Or... maybe not. Hmmm... How much weight do I have to dump to grab all the enclave armor I anticipate of getting? Hmmm...

EDIT: I'm debating what weapons to bring along. Should I bring a Fat Man, or does that seem a bit of overkill indoors? The energy weapons here seems a bit weak with the current mod, or the armor's a bit strong. I can also pick A3-21's plasma rifle, Tribeam Laser, my Xuanlong Assault rifle, or Pancor Jackahmmer (super shotgun), or even my railway rifle. Or the Bozar (automatic sniper rifle?) On paper, Tribeam beats plasma, and Shotgun is king, but that's at low range. For longer range, maybe I should bring my reservist's rifle for sniping? Or just use the plasma rifle period? Ah, choices, choices. I know I won't be able to stop if I go into this mission all the way until i reach the Citadel.

Did the battle at the Jefferson Memorial and watched James "Dad" made the ultimate sacrifice. Then lead the crew through the tunnels past whatever horrors are there in the tunnels. Fortunately for me, no reavers. And this time everybody made it. What I always do is told the doc to hold back, while I went ahead and kill EVERYTHING.

I brought along the Custom Beginning version of Bozar... which is a sniping machine gun (!) firing the super-rare .223 Remington rounds in long bursts almost like Metalstorm (though it looks kinda like a Barrett .50) I just about used up all 150+ rounds I had rounded up so far in the game, but I took down a couple different Enclave soldiers with it. Not even Hellfire armor can stand a long burst of bullets straight to the noggin'. Had to take out the rest with looted plasma rifle when my tri-beam laser didn't quite have enough range. Got so many sets of armor it's kinda embarrassing, even after combining them in repairs. And there are two more sets I didn't get, and possibly more outside on the Jefferson memorial, but that's a different problem.

I actually brought 4 weapons: Bozar, Xuanlong, Tribeam laser, and Pancor shotgun, plus mines and grenades.

Made it to the Citadel with the full crew, and talked to everybody. So far, Citadel has the best repair (91, and that's with the Scribe outside, not Tech Sergeant Durga the merchant) until you run into the weapons caravan.

Picked up Star Captain Cross as a companion. Took her to my Megaton house and bought her a backpack as well (yes, leather Backpack is also for companions, gives them extra 50 lb carrying capacity just like they do for you)

Went to the Rare Find, and just killed a raider, when a two muties crashed the party and must have either blown up a car like right under us or something. We can't find the merchant and his two dogs are dead. I kinda raided his place for the 3 skills books, but I lost karma for that. But I can afford it. I'm like ultra high on karma, nothing but karma. :)

Went to Rivet City to dump the rest of the loot, and now I have like 13000 caps, but it took quite a bit of travel. I gave a plasma rifle and rounds to the Star Paladin. Even with pay to train, I am about to max out my skills in most of my skills, except melee and unarmed (didn't use those at all).

Next up, some exploration toward Camp Lamplight, eventually to Vault 87, but may do some other exploration too.

Day 5 / Part 2 of 2 is up The Family settles dispute with Arefu, with the Other Wanderer's help

Explored southward, first went to Rare Find, that merchant on the bridge, but he's still dead. Supermutants are over the area. Poor guy and his dogs. No respawn for him. :)

Headed south a bit and ran into two Enclave camps. First one had an officer, a controlled deathclaw, a Lt. Gutsy, and 2-3 soldiers. Killed them all with Cross's help, looted fingers and armor and merged them. Gave a set to Cross, and she started wearing it. Very well. Gave her plenty of ammo for her plasma rifle. I should probably take that heavy incinerator from her though. :) Then vertibirds dropped off two more. We started shooting. The vertibird took off, and we killed one. The other disappeared god know where.

Explored west to Fairfx ruins. Killed all the raiders, let Cross have her fun too.

Went west a little, found a small scavenger camp that was just overrun by raiders. We killed the raiders, and we found like 1200 caps on the scavenger. Lucky me.

Explored further southwest, and found the Outcasts and Fort Independence. It seems they only take ONE set of armor per day, or they don't take the Hellfire armor and whatnot. They do take laser and plasma weapons. I took mainly Shredder grenades.

Decided had enough for one day, headed back to Megaton.

Read somewhere that there are goodies at the national guard depot to the north. I need to find Vault-Tech HQ. :)

-----

Explored downtown a bit and found Vault-Tec HQ, and downloaded all the vault locations, including Vault 92. I promised Agatha I'd get her violin.

We're going through supermutants and raiders like scythe through wheat. I gave Cross plasma rifle, and when I looted a Laser Gatling off an overlord, she got that too. Almost didn't need it. Also gave her more than a few grenades, and she enjoyed using them too. The problem is you can't order Dogmeat back, but then, he's essential. :D He didn't mind a little fire. Only Enclave put up a little challenge.

Now it's time to head north. toward Vault 92...

(And surprisingly, the game didn't crash even once. It got a little hesitant sometimes, but otherwise, no crashes!)

-----

Explored northward and went through a couple more Enclave checkpoints and whatnot. Killed many big critters too.

When to Vault 92 and found the violin for Agatha. It took a while, but the place is full of Mirelurks with some bloatflies.

Just dropped it off. Next is, I dunno, go ahead and go to Little Lamplight, then Paradise falls, where I kill all the slavers (but not until I grab the mesmetron?), then back through Vault 92... and that's when I get to taste hospitality of the Enclave.

(SPOILER: Apparently "Sister" at Rivet City is "allergic" to Mesmetron shots. If I find a quiet place and shoot him with it, he goes nut and Rivet City security will kill him for me, and thus save "Mei Wong", a runaway slave, also at Rivet City. )

Okay, did Little Lamplight, did Paradise Falls (killed EVERYONE, both Crimson and Clover, as they attacked us.) Rescued the kids and two slaves (third one was Breadbox, totally nuts). Went back to Little Lamplight, and got through to Vault 87. It was a mess fighting so many Mutie Overlords with tri-beam lasers. Those enjoy a bonus against the player character! But found Fawkes, and he got the GECK for me. Dismissed Cross and Dogmeat right before Fawkes left.

Enjoyed the hospitality of the Enclave, and suddenly my plasma rifle became a lethal weapon, as I was head-shot-ing Enclave soldiers left and right. Didn't even have to use grenades much. Fought my way through the level, and came back out the other side after convincing Eden to go cuckoo on himself.

Took on Fawkes as a companion, and brought him to Citadel, and there's the attack on Project Purity. Turns out it was quite easy, didn't even freeze up even once! Got inside, and sneak-attacked multiple enclave soldiers Got into the Rotunda, and there it got buggy.

1st time: blabed with the Colonel, he's not giving up. So a plasma bolt took his head off. Then three-or four Enclave soldiers charged me, but with Fawkes on my side it was over pretty quickly. However, Nothing I do make make the scenario continue. RELOAD!

2nd time: killed Colonel without talking to him, killed all the other soldiers, then Sarah Lyons came running in, as Dr. Li said we have to turn it on now or the whole thing goes kaboom, but the room's full of rads. I told Fawkes to step in. Okay, he would. Except I can't get the airlock mechanism to work. Nothing happens.

3rd time: killed colonel and goons, Sarah Lyons showed up. This time Fawkes was already in the chamber, and I was able to close the airlock door. Then... Nothing. he won't move.

4th time: killed colonel and goons, Sarah Lyons showed up. I stepped in myself and punched the code. Watched the video... Then the screensaver kicked in and froze the game as this game doesn't like being interrupted.

5th time: killed colonel and goons, Lyons showed, up, stepped in myself and punched the code, keep tapping keys while watching the video. And finally, I'm into Broken Steel, as soon I get "2 weeks later"...

Walked all the way to the southwest, I walked past a couple landmarks I didn't explore thoroughly. May have to go back later.

Watched Liberty Prime's end from an orbital strike. That was... exciting. Fighting through the tight confines of the base was interesting as well.

Reported back to Rothchild, Lyons, and then Tristan wanted me to head north to Old Olney to grab a Tesla coil. What he didn't say is Old Olney is Deathclaw country. Fortunately, I have a new toy from a scribe that is supposed to override Deathclaw control signal from the Enclave. So if I can find an enclave deathclaw to test with...

Walked to Canterbury Commons, watched a battle between Antagonizer and Mechanist. It's a bit of meh, and I wasn't sure what to do about them yet. I think I'll talk both of them out of it. :) I have plenty of caps and I invested in the caravans. Didn't see any changes right away, but expected to in 3-7 game days.

Walked north to Temple of the Union and met Hannibal Hamlin. Got his coordinates from Mei Wong at Rivet City. His smith needs a photo of the Lincoln Memorial before it's busted, and he needs me to scout the place.

Went north to "Grisly Diner". It's a raider hideout, and Fawkes and I cleared it. Found Keller family tape. I think I have enough digits to solve the puzzle now, as I've ran onto 3 or 4 pieces of those recordings before. It's supposed to open the bunker in National Guard Depot. Will do that afterwards.

Continued north. Found the Enclave test camp with a brain-capped Deathclaw. Told Fawkes and Dogmeat to stay put. Snuck up to the cage and released it. And oh, boy, it was glorious. With Deathclaw attracting the attention of the soldiers and officer, I was able to snipe them from behind. And as soon as the poor thing walked out of range of the Enclave transmitter, its brain got fried.

Got into Old Olney sewers and fought the way into the place. Apparently some Ghouls thought it's a good place to setup a city... except they tunneled into a colony of Deathclaws and the entire city got slaughtered. Ended up exploring the whole underground city, finally made the way above ground, only to have Enclave airdropping troopers. But we dealt with them, and I finally made it into Olney powerplant.

Instead of fight my way through most of the plant, looking for the key against tons of robots, I decided I will just hack the door, and was successful after a few tries. And with a bit of a test about emergency poweroff, was able to grab the coil. But for grins, I went through the plant the long-way as well, killed a lot of robots, hacked a few turrets, and so on. By this time, I'm not even bothering to pick up Enclave armor. No room to carry them.

Went to Citadel to let them know I'm done. Now they want me to get to Adams AFB where Enclave has a secondary base. Okay, it'll be interesting.

Decided to visit Museum of History and found the side hall with Lincoln's display, Found all items, including the repeater.

Lincoln Memorial is empty of supermutants (or metahumans, as Fawkes like to say), but it's full of slavers, I went ahead and cleared it, as I've already killed everybody in Paradise Falls. With Fawkes sporting a laser gatling (and unlimited ammo, as it's his personal weapon), I just sat back and sniped with my Lincoln Repeater. Very fitting, isn't it?

Went to HH and let him know Lincoln Memorial is ready to residents. Walked out of his place, and saw caravan's Doc Hoff running away from... an albino radscorpion? I started shooting, Fawkes started shooting, and soon Doc was saved. It was a minute later when his guard and brahmin showed up. Fortunately, with my investment, Doc Hoff's coffers has expanded to 4000+ caps and twice as big selection.

By this time, my XP has been maxed out (I'm lvl 30), so I'm just exploring for the heck of it.

Went northeast as I want to find the National Guard Depot, as rumor has it that it has some serious goodies inside. The rads actually are pretty low-dose, maybe 1 rad per sec at most. Found my way up and down the stairs, killed a LOT of robots, used grenades and guns.

You have to make your way all the way up to the third floor, and find a switch to flip. That'll turn on the power for the door downstairs which cannot be picked. (It says "very hard" to pick but in reality cannot be picked). Opened it, killed one more robot, and FINALLy broke into the bunker downstairs with the storage area full of guns and bigger weapons, and the real reason I was there... I got a hint that Advanced Recon Gear will be there too. And it was. I now wear an armored trench coat that's almost as good as power armor, without the agility penalty. :) And I've explored enough that I know the code to get into the bunker.

(NOTE: Advanced Recon Gear is from the mod, not part of core game)

Went inside the bunker, and it's a sad story inside. Bodies on the beds, and a glowing one. Apparently some members of the family did make it into the bunker, but after a few forays to the outside, the guy got irradiated and turned. Inside is a unique nuke launcher "Experimental MIRV" apparently capable of launching MULTIPLE mini-nukes all at once. I have stockpiled 36 mini-nukes, but I'm not eager to test them.

Headed into Takoma Park area, witnessed a bunch of muties wiped out a Talon Company detachment. We wiped out the rest.

Told HH that his followers can head to the Lincoln Memorial. Waited a while, didn't see them yet. Oh well. They'll come when they come.

Time to head for the Presidential Metro and Adams AFB. The Canterbury "superhuman gambit" quest can wait.

I picked up a perk that allowed me to find a lot more NK Quantums (practically one in every NK vending machine) so I can make a lot more nuka grenades. :)

Decided to visit Takoma before I head for underground train from White House. Supermuties are fighting with Talon Company quite a bit here and I got plenty of salvage, should I want any. I don't. I already have more than 10K caps and my "sell pile" is probably worth 100-250K caps, as it contained too many assault rifles and even bigger guns. I collected over 100 fingers for the regulators, and I have 50+ sugar bombs for Murphy to make Ultrajet. Haven't found too many strange meat, but then, I don't really want to kill Andale residents. So... not going there. I have about 50 bloodpacks for the family too, but then, I don't really NEED the money. :)

I guess it's time to dismiss the companions and go visit Anchorage simulation. I can do Adams AFB when I come back.

Speaking of which, I found "First Edition" book store in Takoma (DCInterior mod) and picked on one of every unique book they have. Unfortunately, I have no 'shelf space' to display them. :) Also picked up custom guitars and all the different toys from the other vendors from the other shops. ;) It's just a pile on the ground right now. I also picked up a few of the unique gnomes added by DCInteriors.

For those into "posing" stuff in their player homes, there's a mod called "Feng shui" that lets you do that. Beats trying to Z-grab stuff and let it fall randomly. Haven't tried it, but it's an interesting idea. There's also an "action figure" mod that gives you pint-sized bodies to put outfits on for posing. These modders really think of EVERYTHING, don't they? :)

I am contemplating resetting my level to 19 (keeping the perks and most of the skills) so I can enjoy the stuff a bit more.

Went to virtual Alaska, found a bug in "Wasteland Trainers" mod as a part of PracticeMakesPerfect mod. Had to disable it then the dialog proceeds properly. May enable it later, who knows?

Finished. Only found 7 out of 10 intel cases. There's one on first map that I just can't find AT ALL! They insist there were four, but I've gone through every inch and I can only find three. ARGH! I ended up playing sniper most of the time, though it's kinda pain going up against the stealth suits alone.

Exited, and got the vault open. I went immediately for the T51b Winterized, allegedly the best armor in the game. Gunfire erupted behind me, as the outcasts opened fire on their commander Defender McGraw and the scribe, probably wanting a piece of the loot. I crouched and tossed two grenades at them, hiding just outside the door. The grenades bounced them off the ceiling despite their power armor, and I got tossed into the shelves, stuff thrown everywhere. When it all ended, EVERYBODY is dead except me. Oh well, too messy to explain any way. :) I walked out, killed the muties in my way, and walked back to Megaton.

(A fictionalized version of the tale can be found here https://www.reddit.com/r/fo3/comments/7 ... ntures_of/ )

Now for a rant. Broken Steel added MUCH MUCH tougher class of enemies that's a quantum leap above the old classes.

Reavers, as the ultimate ghoul, has 1100 hp, compared to the 240 for "glowing one", next strongest.

Albino radscorpions have 1500 hp, compared to 350 for next strongest, "giant radscorpion"

Supermutant overlord has 1250 hp, compared to 360 for supermutant master, next one down. Only Supermutant Behemoth, which is like 4x the size of regular supermutants, is stronger (at 2000 hp). But there are only 5 behemonths in the whole Capital Wasteland, and you have a lot of help taking those out.

That is just... crazy. So I downloaded a mod that nerf'ed those three down to a somewhat more reasonable level like 550 hp or so.

Went to Lincoln Memorial. Turns out HHm was holding his group at the metro station close to it, waiting for me to tell him it's okay. So I did. I didn't sell him the Lincoln repeater though. I think I'm gonna keep it.

Decided I need to visit Tenpenny, so I walked over there, and asked to be let in. Gutavo told me about the Ghoul problem. Just for the heck of it, I talked to every named person in the building, even if I had to wake them up, and it took me a whileto find Tenpenny himself, but they didn't have much to add.

Found Herbert Dashwood, and he did mention Argyle was last seen in Rockopolis. When I got out of the area, I walked over to Rockopolis.

Nearby found a wastelander killing a molerat. Went to talk to him, he blabbed about getting the survival guide allowed his family to eat twice a day instead of once. I mentioned I helped write that, and he thanked me.

Then he promptly charged an albino radscorpion and died. :grund: I killed the radscorpion. Then I checked the Wastelander, and sure enough, there's the book on his body. I left it there. You can give them info, but you can't give them common sense. :D

Went into Rockopolis, and found Argyle's dead body. Awwww...

Found an "abandoned house" nearby, got charged by "Blind Willy". Shot him. Looks like he's some sort of backyard chemist with some setup to brew alcohol or chems. Too bad.

Went into the train tunnels, killed a bunch of ferals, no big deal. I practice my grenades (I made like 6 Nuka grenades for this occasion, would have made more but forgot to stock up on turpentine) and the Nuka grenade explosion (with EVE and mod) was a nice "blue plasma ball" explosion with a ton of flames. VERY nice. Eventually came up upon Michael Masters who told me to approach, and after speech check, he led me to Roy Phillips.

Roy Phillips was clearly intending something violent, and it seems he knew that the basement is linked to the tunnel, but nobody can get it open. And he has expressed desire to kill every living human in Tenpenny Tower, should he get in or not. Weighing the consequences, I decided I need to execute him, and Michael Masters will be collateral damage. I thanked him and walked out... then before they can close the door, I back tossed a nuka grenade into the room. Fooosh! Both Roy Phillips and Michael Masters are crispy critters.

Chief Gustavo told me there is a third ghoul. I went back to the room, searching, when someone opened a door on the far side. A female ghoul... wearing a pink dress walked in. It's Bessie Lynn, and she's sauced, and still holding a bottle. It's clear she had NO IDEA what happened, and as long as she doesn't see the bodies, she wouldn't care. I blocked her into coming further into the room, looking for Roy, and distracted her with conversation, ensured her that everything is alright. Then before she can react, I stabbed her with Jingwei's Shocksword. Bye, Bessie Lynn.

(A different versio of this tale can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fo3/comments/7 ... ntures_of/ )

Went back to Gustavo and got my reward (700 caps). Decided that's enough exploration and went back to Megaton.

Went to Jefferson and found Scribe Bigley handling the water distribution... but delivery escort cost $$$, and he's taking a few shortcuts. And he has THREE problems he needs me to solve...

* What's happening with Megaton's water delivery?
* Who's attacking the delivery to Rivet City? (tale fictionalized https://www.reddit.com/r/fo3/comments/7 ... ntures_of/ )
* Where is the water sent to Griffon really going? What the heck is "Aqua Cura"?
Spoiler:
A) a cult hijacked the shipment and irradiated the water, being a more radical version of Church of Atom. I managed to talk the leader out of it, though I had to kill the doorman to get in. Oh well. (The other way to get in is get at least 200 rads of radiation, I guess?)

B) second delivery is by a gang who plan to "offer merc services" by creating a threat themselves. I killed all of them before they can react, with a sword.

C) Griffon stored the water in tubs then put tap water, and is selling the normal water to ghouls as "restorative" "Aqua Cura". I blackmailed him into selling the real thing, after I shut down his operation by stealing all his wigs and killing all his accomplices.
Went to Girdershade and sold all my quantum NK's to Petrovita, though she took ALL of my Quantum NKs, rather than just 30 (I had like... 46, thanks to the Quantum Rush perk)

Decided to collect a few Bobbleheads, and went through both Deathclaw Sanctuary AND Yao Guai caves, plus another location or two. I think I have eight left, but they're spread all over the place.

And my Crafting Table just quit. It freezes. ARGH. Must have screwed up something with the latest set of stuff I installed. Well, I don't really need to craft anything anyway. I have way too much inventory as is.

Oh, and sold the Lincoln repeater to Hannibal Hamlin. He deserved it. I think I'll sell the rest of Lincoln collection to Abraham Washington though, the museum seems a better place for it.

I'm on a Bobblehead quest, and I just run around the place, looking for Bobbleheads, including vaults and more. Went to Vault 102, and found (and killed) way too many Gary's. I already met one of the Gary's at the Outcast Bailey's, and practice my grenade throws, while exploring a few more locations that looks interesting.

Fawkes with his laser gatling is unstoppable. He by himself took out three Talon goons without my help.

Okay, found all but one Bobblehead. I downloaded a mod that gave me quest markers for all the bobbleheads. I thought I got all of them, even the one in Rivet City? Hmmm... Weird. I'm still missing one.

EDIT: I'm missing the energy one... I missed grabbing it while I was at Raven Rock. Guess it's going to go incomplete. *sigh*

I guess I should head for White House underground...

EDIT: Made it through, and took out everything at Adams AFB. Killed turrets, then troops, then robots, and kept walking. It's tight quarters inside the crawler, but eventually made it through. Guess it's time to go see Point Lookout or The Pitt!

Decided to explore the Capital Wasteland a little more, discovered a few more locations on the map, like sewers and stuff. Running across these Enclave camps, and it's kinda funny the random encounters really are random. In one, the Enclave slaughtered the Outcasts patrol. In another, they were overrun by raiders, who started wearing some of their helmets and armor, but apparently nobody picked up the energy weapons because they lack those skills. :) So the AI does work!

Found a way to cheat and recover that one bobblehead I wasn't able to get before. ;)

Solved the Superhuman Gambit quest. Convinced both AntAgonist and Mechanist to give up, got both costumes for my collection.

Heading for Point Lookout Next. I'm going cloak and power fist, and I'm getting one-punch knockouts on even a deathclaw (admittedly, it was under friendly mind control...)

I'm at Point Lookout. Found the bits at the Motel, which lead me to the naval recruiter office, which lead me to the bank, which lead me to the internment center, which lead me to the morgue...

Went inside the mansion, and man, that was one long exciting battle where I fell through the hole in the floor more than once. :D The end "boss" was a surprise, but I had the perfect antidote... I actually have a missile launcher on me. :D

So now it's time to visit the cathedral, then maybe the sub itself... I got 2 out of 3 ingredients for the brewski. I guess I should go drop those off first.

And those swamp folks level up hard. What should have been headshots didn't quite kill them. :-P

-----

The tonic is should be ready by now, I picked enough fruit to matter.

Been to the church, that sent me to the West to see the big mother punga plant... and that hallucination sequence is a classic. :)
Spoiler:
I fast traveled back to church, and didn't even notice "why didn't I have my night vis?" Talked outside, talked inside (found Nadine!) then she mentioned my head's cut open... NO WONDER I can't wear any masks or helmets... Only a hat (Police cap). After a little help, I'm back wearing the night vis helmet... But that's a great touch... unable to wear helmets! :D
Found the sub, and the end of that was both a surprise and a delight, as it's such a FITTING twist to the end. And having TWO solutions to the same problem is great!
Spoiler:
Apparently, after "finishing" the destruction of the stranded minisub... I found the secret bunker, where I'm supposed to receive my rewards... Which is being gassed. But with enough science, I can close the vents to stop the gas from coming in, and with enough repair, I can open the door (which is stuck closed). And if I can do NEITHER... I can jump on the locker, walked across the ceiling beam, and get on an access vent leading outside.
I'm going to finish the Desmond vs. Calvert fight soon by picking a side. That, and two or three more side quests, and I'm done with Point Lookout.

Finished the feud. I can kill them both, but why? Killed the brain-in-jar. Got the microwave emitter. The rest I left behind.

A bunch of smugglers ambushed me on the boardwalk, but I killed them.

Went to grotto and did the safari thing. That's such a letdown. I killed the host with the axe he just gave me. ;)

Found Nadine and the final twist, which I won't spoil. Let's just say, that person got it coming! (And I get to use the axe again!)

Cashed in all the fingers (338!) and the locations for Reilly. I now have over 30K in caps and stopped grabbing things except to build ****.

I got this mod that added some stuff to build, I think it's Mr. Lab Technician where I get to build some tech items like shields, loot transfer, and so on. All of a sudden, I can't find a SINGLE hot plate, and no junk dealer have any (sigh).

Right now, I'm debating whether I'll got play Zeta... or Pitt.

I just installed a bunch of mods and planning on running through Fallout 4 finally. I only played the beginning section and shelved it for when i have time. There's so many mixed reviews around, but I figure with mods and an open mind I'll enjoy it. We'll see.

I don't think it's possible for you to play pacman without mods. ;) And yes I have zero interest in that. I grabbed something called Sim Settlements that makes it less hands on. Hopefully that helps, it gets rave reviews.

On the mothership and fighting my way through the alien horde. Being a maxed character means the weapons don't do much damage. ARGH. I brought 50 stims and I used all of them (!) as I'm barely doing damage to the aliens even with the alien rifles. I found their improved SMG (rapid fire rifle) but it's not helping much as it seems to do even less damage per shot. Fortunately I have boatloads of ammo. Even grenades, which takes out Enclave armor, is not really doing enough damage. I tired the drone cannon (which is really a grenade thrower) but it's hard to use.

The cowboy is worthless. He simply didn't survive the experience. The starter companion was okay, and she has 100 repair. The medic is tolerable. Should have brought more mines if I knew I was going to play Alamo, and left the cowboy at home base.

Now I'm past the weapons lab and into the biological lab.

EDIT: Okay, complete. Somehow the ship battle was much tougher when I'm level 30. I can't kill the attackers fast enough. Should have dropped more mines. Lost both the samurai and Somah. But I'm back to Megaton.

I am just about done with Fallout 4. Probably closing in on 140 hours, I am at level 43. I have done very little settlement building. Only enough to make them happy, not enough to make them look like they live in palaces or nothing.

I think I have completed the main quest, although that's where I am at.

I have enjoyed the game. No using VATS, no wearing Power Armor. I did use a companion for some of the mid game, just for the conversation if nothing else.

I'm in the Pitt, and according to Steam, I have 235 hours in the game, and I have a couple more hours to go to finish Pitt.

I have great sneak and basically emptied the yard of most trogs and wildmen except the roamers. Unlike Zeta, the enemies in Pitt are vulnerable to headshots. I have the Assault rifle set to semi-auto, and give 2 shots to every target I see. None really need more than that. Saves bullets and all that.

I'm told there's 100 ingots in the yard, but I don't think I want to run around and finding it all. I don't think I can carry it all anyway. :-P I think I'll just go console cheat my way to that one. I've already gathered like 30+ (found the motherlode of 12 ingots together on top of that high tower, killed a lot of wildmen to get it too) Finding Marco a bit late (FWIW, Marco is past the exit where you go out to the steelyard. And I found Brand the rat too.

Just got volunteered for the arena. So, that may be interesting. I remember that fight was a real *****.

Also, found "Wild Bill". That's a sad story, and I lied to Milly. *sigh*.

Went to the Pitt and back. That was... probably one of the most morally ambiguous episode in Fallout.

I am pretty sure I did the same decision last time...
Spoiler:
I went with Ashur and killed Werhner. Werhner's revolution makes no sense. Kidnapping the baby can't force Ashur to resign. He'll just soak the city in blood. And I doubt I can sneak away. I'll end up killing just about every pitt raider between uptown and downtown, or die trying. And taking a baby from her parents? I can't do it. Even for hundreds of slaves.

Downloaded the Mothership Zeta Crew mod and activated it. It's a fun divergent quest line that took Mothership Zeta into a whole different direction.

Remember, Somah said that with the power of the ship, you can rival any faction? Guess what? you just did. When a rogue element of Enclave, a company of 200 or so troops 'went rogue', they were chased by both Enclave and Brotherhood. Until Player came upon them (after finishing Zeta), rescued them from a whole slew of supermutants... AND decided to share the ship with them. Now the ship is thoroughly populated, repaired, and aliens cleansed, and even as the ship's capabilities are learned (including a proper cargo-sized teleporter, heavy-lift shuttles, and other capabilities) the player was requested to undergo some missions, some tongue-in-cheek, some serious. Apparently, the "TSC" faction (Terran Starship Command) will be a new faction that rivals enclave, raiders, supermutants, and brotherhood.

Already did like 2-3 quests. It's fun so far.

----

The teleporter quest was fun.

The next quest was negotiate with Rivet City, and that requires taking out some raiders who took over Museum Station. But that just requires killing about 10 raiders. I got them all, not even needing my two soldiers' help. One spike in the head each is pretty much all they needed.

I ran over into cargo hold, and killed a couple alien remnants there. Also did that in the research section where the turrets went rogue too.

But there was no quest. I just stumbled into that section.

Not sure what the next quest is, which is kinda the bad part about fan mods... The quests don't quite lead into each other. I had to run back up to the bridge, then talk to my second in command to advance the story to get the Rivet City quest. Finished that. I found the teleporter setup on the flight deck, beamed back to the ship, the guy told me to test setup, I said I'm going to megaton, and ran right into a water riot... Megaton settlers try to jack a water caravan escorted by BOS... and BOS lasered them all, with Deputy Weld (the Megaton Protectron at the door) also a casualty.

I guess eventually I'll have to fight BOS.

Okay, there's the next quest... It's basically an Aliens Remake. And it's fun!

I get to lead a squad of 4 soldiers to check out the other mothership that we defeated in Mothership Zeta. A large piece apparently fell to the moon (I thought the battle was in orbit of Earth??!!) and upon checking it, we thought we found a generator we can salvage, then...
Spoiler:
The generator overloaded, we ran to the only exit we saw... a teleporter... to where? Anywhere but here! Zap, and we're at some sort of secret base... by the Greys... at the bottom of the ocean! We ended up exploring the base, which is locked as heck, of course. And everywhere, there's bodies and blood. And quiet.

Turns out the greys have created some warriors called tyranids... and they escaped... (they are basically tyranids from WH40K)

We ended up exploring the whole thing, found engineering to turn on the power, found medical to patch up one of the team wounded, then found lab section to access the large teleporter getting the heck out of there.

Which obviously did not work, and the tyranids attack from all sides...

Then the good guys arrive with friendlies and saved the day. It's hilarious in that they arrive with Eyebots blaring patriotic songs (and laser fire).
That by itself is fun, but it's very linear.

MZC/TSC rewrote a LOT of the lore to shake things up. Rivet City has a second city council, and Elder Lyons' BOS is not the only BOS in town. Apparently the West Coast BOS also showed up, and they sent an intel agent to get some intel on the TSC. Too bad she looks too much like Jessica Rabbit (albeit, in a more BOS like uniform).

----

The TSC saga is not finished yet, and when I reaches the break, I'll install "A World of Pain" to do some more exploration.

According to the savegame, I'm at 136 hours played with my current character. Dang, that's a long time.

With nothing going on with the ship, I went exploring by myself. I could pull two bodyguards with me "Black Guard" but decided not to, from the mothership. Decided I want to explore Alexandria Arms (killed all the raiders inside), then explore my way to L'enfant Square and the shops. Found an enclave outpost inside, killed all the scientists and soldiers (they are all "evil" according to the game) and then went house to house exterminating pests like molerats and bloatflies. There are also some supermutants around, but they're easy enough to kill. Found a Talon Company Outpost... Just as I approached, Enclave vertibird bombed it to smithereens. Only the turret survived. I destroyed the turret anyway.

Finally found the hotplate and built the remaining VAPS item. Now it had me searching for some med-tech, so I guess I'll need to go visit a hospital...

Got a pop-up that there's a development back onboard the ship. Met my second in command Harkin in his quarters... He'll explain why did BOS ambassador Rose called him a "war criminal".
Spoiler:
He told me that he met Ambassador Rose before, under strained circumstances. Apparently, an Enclave research outpost called Bright Dawn went incommunicado, and Harkin and his men were sent to check it. When he found that the town has defected to the BOS, he was ordered to raze it to the ground, leaving no survivors, including all civilians (men, women, and children). And that's exactly what he did. By the time BOS forces lead by Rose got there, there was nothing left. Rose accused Harkin of being a war criminal, but that's debatable, isn't it? By whose law? Then Archangel, the spymaster of the ship, gave me a further revelation: apparently Harkin's wife and son were also at Bright Dawn, but then... nothing. Did they die? Did they disappear? Where are they now? No one knows.

Next part of the quest will probably be found on the bridge, I guess.

I found a part of TSC base I haven't been to before... There's a secret underground base way out to the West where security is defending against any encroachments where TSC scientists are researching the Chimera tank (upgraded from the version used in the Alaska campaign) and I even had an alien companion (he doesn't like Terran weapons though). Wonder what'd happen if I take him to Megaton? Will people freak out? :)

There's a hidden quest onboard the ship, but I can't think of what it is. Oh well. I'm about to beam myself back up to the ship to see if there's more to the TSC campaign. The quest marker doesn't show it as complete. I wonder why?

Right now, I'm basically attacking any Enclave camps and whatnot I come across and looting it. Usually by chucking grenades at it from one side, preferably from way high up. It's kinda fun to see how many grenades do you need to take out an enclave camp.

Noticed another two things: molotov cocktail does have a residual "fire damage" on the target, and plasma grenades does have a residual "plasma burn" on the target. Pulse grenades doesn't do anything to biologicals. It will do massiave damage to robots with EMP wave. Why doesn't it do anything to power armor though? Hmmm? And the new "cryo grenades" in the game? Doesn't do jack against power armor either. Plink it on biologicals (but not giant critters) and they get frozen to a popsicle, then shatters when they fall over. But on power armor? They freeze, then they unfreeze in two seconds. Useless.

According to spoilers, there should be a council meeting soon, and then I'll get to make a speech at Rivet City, and then BOS (West) turned on me with a sneak attack.

Re: [Oldies] Fallout 3 replay for 2018!

Turns out the "med tech" in VAPS was talking about the experimental medical armor that I picked up in one of those hidden quests. And it's talking about wreck it to I can build an enhancement to my Pipboy: auto-injection of chems when needed. As I already have such a system, I chose not to tear up that armor.

I'll need to look up the quests in Better Living Through Chems mod.

In the meanwhile, I am STILL waiting for whatever was supposed to occur in TSC/MZC mod to continue.

Okay, the TSC/MZC campaign just kicked into next gear, which, from the spoiler before, would be a doozy.
Spoiler:
Basically, with Terran Starship Command's troopers already deployed all over Wasteland, and with Poseidonis, the underwater city ready to receive residents, I need to make a speech, present a couple awards, and basically announce the first batch of resident applications will be accepted or something.

And it seems The Brotherhood will crash the party, tried to assassinate me, the grand admiral, kill a few members of my "Artemis" team, and basically turn DC Wasteland into a warzone because they think they deserved the tech more than we do.

From what I understand I'll be fighting through the ship up and down a few times, rescue hostages, save the pilot, and eventually recover the alien shuttle left on the flight deck. THEN there's a mission to Moscow to recover a special armor developed by the Russians.
I was running around DC, looking for locations I haven't been so. Just made a run through Chryslus building, didn't find anything super interesting, just some skill books and whatnot. Explored a couple locations previously unexplored. There's a lot of random encounters, with Talon fighting supermutants, Enclave outpost fighting raiders, Enclave airdropped soldiers fighting raiders, and so on and so forth. Feels more... 'alive'?

Argh, TSC shows so much potential if they can just write the mission briefing and quests better.

Right now, I'm supposed to meet with a faction to form an alliance... RSSR, the new USSR. They have power armor that TSC can use to reverse engineer. Apparently the dozens and dozens of Enclave (and the few BOS suits I got) is not good enough.

The mission objective says "meet my pilot", except there was no dialog mentioning any pilot, it wasn't in my computer terminal, and this pilot is nowhere around the main hangar or the aux hangar either. WTF? Asking other officers got me nowhere.

Argh! Turns out the diplomatic shuttle is in a different part of the hangar. What's with no quest markers on these mod missions?! Had to wander the area to find it.

Then there's no instructions to release the door once you landed in Moskow (sic). Turns out there's a small button next to the door to open it, rather than clicking on the door itself. :-P

The "black guard" turns out to be rather wimpy when faced with AK74-2's (rechambered with NATO 5.56, just like the "Chinese Assault Rifle"). I gave them good weapons, like laser gatling, they died under AK-74 fire. :-P

The really sad part is in the final series where you play with the soviet power armor, you can't open your pip-boy. :-P

The end fight wasn't as tough as it should have been, because the game forgot to unlink my followers. I was assigned two "black guards", but they're told to stay outside the building. However, I have follower Javik, and 2 black guards I assigned to myself directly from the ship, not a part of the diplomatic mission. As a result I have THREE followers, in ADDITION to whichever follower I pick up in the game (Charon, Fawkes, etc.). This makes clearing the building a bit easier than it should be, as I should only be accompanied by my seraph (local spy/liaison).

Okay, looks like this mod campaign ends here, as they never wrote chapter 4, the war between TSC and BOS. So, I guess, that's about it for this run, unless I just want to run around and shoot people while cloaked. I've already emptied almost every Enclave camp in the Wasteland. I don't really want to play AWOP4FO3 (A World of Pain, some super-hard levels for FO3).

I accumulated 50K caps for the TSC moonbase expansion, so maybe I can do that. Hmmm... I was down to 30K so I had to go around the wasteland selling **** and trading in stuff for $$$ to get 20K.
