TotalSpend 2018-04-14 08:06:39.897 $319.95
OldSpend 2018-04-14 08:06:39.897 $155.30
PWSpend 2018-04-14 08:06:39.897 $0.00

Seems about right. A mere 0.0186 Sepiche's. ;)

Edit: And that's for 87 games for an average of $3.68/game. Steam Gauge says I've played for 1208.2 hours for a cost of $0.265/hour. Higher than I thought, actually. I've also spent a ton of time with StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3, but that obviously doesn't show up here. Oh, and I played Civ IV offlilne for wayyyyyy too many hours and none of that is counted either.

$1,361 is embarrassingly high for something I think of as a cheap hobby.

I am right at the $6700 range. That is higher than I thought, but I have been in since the very beginning. I also tended to buy from Steam instead of other competitors.

$1384, for 264 games. So, that's about $5/game. Might say something about how much of a cheapskate I've become re: games. Better than back in the old days, I suppose, when I'd pirate them like nobody's business.

Not sure over how many years, but probably at least ten.

And why is no one posting what deals they got on what so others can find some from that. Post your things ladies and gentlemen.

Yeah, this is as good a thread as any for comments on the sale.

I don't even know what the game does, so my motivation to finish playing was low.

OldSpend 2018-06-21 23:06:31.690 $869.51
Less than I thought, honestly, since I joined in 2007 and for the past few years have been buying most of kids' games through my account.

Spending ~$300/year on Steam seems reasonable to me. It's not like I have any other expensive hobbies.

In case you’re wondering, “OldSpend” is the amount of money you spent before the Limited User Account restrictions were put in place in 2015. According to IGN, “PWSpend” refers to the money you’ve spent on games run by Perfect World Entertainment, a Steam partner which helps run CS:GO and DOTA 2 in China and is currently helping the platform expand into that country.

Yeah, but does anyone know what that OldSpend is about?

As far as the sale, I don't have anything on my wish list that I am dying to play and none of the sales are good enough to really get me to spend money anyway.

I did get the free $5 from PayPal so I feel like I should find something to spend it on.

Just a shade under 3k. My purchases have dropped off quite a bit the last year or so.

I am observing that while the base game sales are normal 50-75%, the DLC sales are lackluster, 0-50%. This isn’t every game by any means, but enough that I’m hesitant to grab games on my wishlist.

A couple examples, Rome II, XCom 2, Atilla, Total War Warhammer. Oh, maybe it’s mostly Total War, didn’t even notice it was dominating my wishlist until I wrote this.

Is this a new trend? Or am I just having bad luck this year?

No, the prices (once again) are all wacky. Last month you could get Dishonored 2 from Green Man Gaming for $12, a key for Ubisoft. Now it's $19 on STEAM. There were a few other things I noticed, but since I was actively looking for Dishonored 2, that jumped out.

If you look at it as $1361 over nine years and including gift to my kids it isn't bad but I thought I had more restraint. Of course I just bought Dominions 5 even though I have more than enough games.

I'm "working" - so I don't click up a storm. I just hold "1" and aim where the critters are to bomb them. Now that I'm an amazing level 5, I can freeze and bomb as well. I still don't click. Just hold one, move the mouse around, and sometimes press "2" and "3"

Anybody use Steam link and/or a Steam controller? Tempted to give the link a try for a couple bucks, and the Steam controller is available for pretty cheap as well.

My wife picked up both a bit back. The Link she loves and she uses it to play a lot of Steam games on our main TV.

The Steam controller feels a bit cheaply made and doesn't really work well with a lot of the games she's tried. I think she finally gave up on it and switched to an XBox controller.

So far I've picked up Bomber Crew and all the DLC for Darkest Dungeon (I still only had the base game).

I'm itching for something different, and need to scour the sales for a good match.

Yes, I use it often to play Rocket League with my 7YO on our TV. Can be a bit glitchy, but when it's working, it's worth it.

These reflect my experiences as well. The Link can stream anything from your computer to your TV, but for best results a wired connection is strongly recommended.

Yeah, that's worth mentioning too. My wife tried it wireless at first, and it was prone to lagging. It would have been a bit of a hassle to run a cable from our router to the Link, so I picked up a power line adapter that can extend a wired network through your home's electric wiring. Really handy device.

That's what has been giving me pause. My router is on the other side of the house (we use Google Home for wifi throughout), so a physical cable to it isn't really practical.

I have one of those powerline adapters, but the data speed on it was always horrible

The quality/age of your wiring can be a big factor. Ours seems to work well enough to handle anything the Link can throw at it, but YMMV.

Only thing I have been in on so far was the Mass Transit DLC for Cities Skylines. 50% off is my typical trigger. Wish the Green Cities DLC had been 50% off instead of 30%.

Argh theres just so much on sale its overwhelming to just try and view it all. Theres so many games from my wishlist within the $4 - $10 range I could get. I could even get 2 of them. But then theres stuff like Conan thats $24 and if I get some more scratch together I might get a much better gaming experience,

This always happens. by the end of the sale Ive not picked anything. Good side of that is Ive saved money...bad side is Ive gotten nothing new and I spend the money on a visit to a fast food joint.

Worst part is that damn insurance Fn my bank up and I cant sort that out until Monday.

How long is this sale anyways?

It ends at 1pm EST on 7/5.

I really, really resisted using their wish list function for a long, long time. But now with all the shovelware it's really the only way to keep track of things you might like. Doing the daily queue is also useful (to some degree), but really most of my recommendations come from people talking about stuff here or seeing what others are up to in my activity feed.

All of this +1 (Except the daily queue. I have too many games already to care about that)

While I would like to blame Archinerd and Defiant for buying Slay the Spire today which wasn't even on my radar, think the seeds were already sewn by seeing Sudy playing it all of the time during my prime playing hours.

I picked up the new Assassin's Creed last night. I've never been a fan of the AC series, but this one (through the first 3-4 hours) has been far more fun than I was expecting. Also grabbed Epic Battle Fantasy 4, a parody JRPG. Looked funny, had overwhelmingly positive feedback, and was only a couple bucks.

I picked up one of the $1 Steam Links and it works pretty well but I do have strong wireless connectivity where it is. And just using an Xbox controller as well.
