Defiance 2050 mmo / free

This is some new version of the original Defiance mmo based on the tv series. New graphics and character classes and such Im seeing. Ill install it and give it a go. Its free.

I tried (briefly) the open beta. The graphics looked pretty much the same and it crashed regularly.

I got on last night and started a medic. Looks like they did tweak the starting intro. But then it's pretty much the same graphics and same quests. The classes have been changed and the skills greatly simplified. Not sure about the weapons yet. Cut scenes are the same. The quests are the same, but have been moved around a bit to make them easier to grab (the next one tends to be right near the end of the previous one).

The biggest annoyance for me is that there are so many people doing every quest at the same time. I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't be that hard to finish most of the quests without firing a shot if you wanted. Of course, that's to be expected.

The only really significant change for me is that the automatic grabbing of ammo and $$ is more responsive than it was in the old version.

I played the original for a while a few years ago so I tried the beta hoping for a different experience and found it to be the exact same game after leaving the starting area, which was changed slightly. I logged out and uninstalled.

Well thats a shame. I also own and have played the original to death. Not played in 2 years though. The only thing that might make it fun is if its crowded again with new players. having others around doing the quests with is helpful in the beginning.

The original installed through their launcher and this one uses Steam. Do I just log in with my old account or do I have to start over with a new one?

Pretty sure you should be able to use your old one. I don't remember having to create a new account.

That turned out to be correct. I didn't see my old characters so made a new main and an alt.

Yeah. It's a completely different game in that sense. Nothing from the other version (which is still running for now) was carried over.

Ive made a main medic and an alt scout. Im not sure Im going to like the scout. The action is too hectic for zoomed in sniping and the default scout skill is cloak which doesn't seem to help at all. Maybe switch it up for a more in their face shooter guy. Ill give it a bit...unless it lets me have 4 or 5 character slots to test with. been a long time since I played and I didn't have access back then to the new classes of course.

Sniping might be useful if it wasn't so crowded. But by the time you draw a bead on something, someone else has probably killed it. Plus, the mobs seem to jump around a bit. I found sniping to be pretty much a waste on beta weekend.

Ya Ive also noticed that jumping around thing. They bounce around as if the game is lagging but me and other players dont seem to do it. Ive also noticed...especially when zoomed.....that the enemy health bar tends to follow my crosshair and not stay stuck on the enemy. Like I see a bad guy, go to zoom, and miss my target and if I move left or right the red health bar stays with me and the enemy can be way somewhere else. Making it tough to shoot stuff. Im hoping its a symptom of overcrowded areas here at the launch.
