PC Games, ten years ago.

If it's a video game it goes here.

PC Games, ten years ago.

Post by Blackhawk »

Link to this week, 2008.

I was a little over a year past my divorce. Things were about to get complicated, and then I was going to have my "aha!" moment and figure it all out. My friend (TigerRider here on OO) would come over every weekend and we'd spend ungodly numbers of hours playing WoW. From that link, it looks like Isgrimnur had just quit WoW, though. It seems I was working on a third attempt at Freelancer (it never worked out.) We were discussing a new beta for a program that would release Good Old Games, updated for modern systems, and DRM free. People were hopeful it would work out. Lord British was headed into space. A lot of good posters were still here.

The wife is heavy into the building aspects of Conan. We discussed WoW for the different character classes and raids, but I doubt she'll bite, especially given her 600+ hours into Conan and Fallout 76 being next on the build-a-base series.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

She may like RUST. Years ago I found it better than most other survival games.

Hah. I've made several attempts at the first witcher, including just last year. Maybe in another 10 years.

Conan is multi-player right? Didn't know it was base building. I've no one to play with sadly.

It is. There are people here, and I can get the wife's servers. You can run on a PvE or PvP server as you desire.

The witcher is totally playable today, and it's 10 years old. I'm sure there are a couple of games around 2000 that I have still played recently, although what they were has slipped my mind.

20 years ago is not as long ago as it used to be in the gaming world.

I'm well into a game of Baldur's Gate as we speak, and I just played System Shock late last year (or early this year.)

Speaking of 20 years ago, this weekend (in between being a horrible commander in Arma 3 co-op scenarios with my son) I felt the need for some old school pausable RTS, with 3D maps, unit design functionality and research circa 1999 (but still being worked on/updated by the community to this day) so got two solid games in and stayed up until 2 AM playing - still a blast. Warzone 2100

I've gone back to this one a few times over the years as it hits the right spots that I've never had a game deliver on since. Interesting story, too.

That's the one where you design your units, right?

I never played it, but always heard good things about it. I played Ground Control around that time. I liked the tactical aspects. Units moved in and out of cover long before Dawn of War.

Anyway, I see that Warzone 2100 is free, so I might take a look at it, finally.

The price is right...

Yeah - you design units - like pick a tread, chassis, & turret. but I always ended up with like three models I used over and over and improved on. You also build up walls and defenses as you build your base. There's also Cyborg infantry you can use, but I only ever poked at those.
