Civ 6 question

How do cities attack now? I've yelled and screamed and pushed all sorts of buttons but nothing works.
I've even tried looking it up online and keep getting confusing answers.

Here it is. You need walls. If the city has an encampment, it can also fire. If you have ranged units garrisoned there, they can fire, too.

I wish the game wouldn't say my city can fire when it actually can't.

Except that in the later game there's no option to build city walls. Obsolete I guess. And city still wont fire.

Are you sure there is a valid target within range (2 hexes)? I've never had a city with walls be unable to fire (unless the walls were destroyed and needed repairing - check the build screen and see if there a line item to repair walls). For late game cities, I've literally plopped down a city and immediately fired at a target.

The red target symbol appears under the city. The game litterally tells me so. Right clicking, left clicking, jumping up and down screaming, nothing works.

Try clicking on the red target symbol below the city and then you should get the ranged attack arrow when you mouse over an enemy within range (2 hexes) then click on the enemy to fire from the city.
