I only played a little bit past character creation but already I'm loving the familiar Fallout vibe from the character creation and my first interaction with a NPC. I put extra points into intelligence and charisma because I'm looking forward to hacking and manipulating my way through the game. I'm also a sous chef because I like to cook in real life. Also there's a melee bonus which will come in handy if I can't convince people to do my bidding.

I went with a female ranged weapons specialist with a strong background in stealth and engineering. She's compassionate towards others thanks to her medical experience, but looks out for herself first and foremost. If that means taking what she needs when out of sight of the law, then so be it.

I'm afraid this game might sidetrack Red Dead 2 for me, as I'm thoroughly hooked.

Subbed for the pass for the whopping 1 dollar. Only played a tiny bit, but I was surprised at how fun the initial gun play was and I'm liking the graphics style a lot. :horse:
It's practically criminal that you can play this game for a buck. Also some great Firefly and Futurama influences. Your first companion is straight out of the show.

Also more tips:
Upgrade Dodge To 20+ To Unlock Leap To Reach Hidden Loot

The ‘Leap’ skill is one you might not realize you need. By upgrading to Dodge 20+, you’ll get the ability to leap forward, even while jumping. This allows you to jump much further than normal, and you’ll be able to reach platforming puzzle loot.

Somewhere around 15 hours played, level 21 and still loving it and not a bug to be seen. I'll agree with Jag that the combat on normal is pretty easy... but it turns out I am ok with that. :)

I got the game at Green Man Gaming with a personal voucher for 16% off, but it turns out that according to the GMG Facebook feed you can order the game and get the same 16% off with the code TOW16.

UPDATE: Forgot to mention, OO Effect strikes again

While Fallout has never done much for me, the great reviews, the Firefly influence, and the Obsidian pedigree certainly have me more interested in this than I expected to be.

With RDR2 already pre-ordered I might have passed on TOW if it wasn't for the sale, but as Skinypupy said, there is a lot of positive word going around about the game. And I put over 140 hours in Fallout 4, which is a huge amount for me.

I was just looking and thought, this is absurd - I already pre-purchased RDR2 and there's no way I'll have time for any of this. Wait, what? A sale? You bastards!

Reminds me of a time not too long ago when most of the new releases came between the beginning of September and the second week of November, although not that many new games came in September. There was a dearth of good gaming all Summer then bang! all the new releases hit, especially the AAA titles. And I'd end up with several games bought with no play time at the end of the year.

How is gunplay with the controller. Not much of a console player usually, and find Borderlands 3 gunplay to be clunky with the controller.

OK, a couple of three questions...

1) Is there a way to adjust the dead zone of the left stick of a controller? I've looked and haven't seen one. My X360 controller is old and drifts.

B) Is there a setting in the game, or the Epic launcher, to display frame rate?

III) Is there a way to take screenshots?

I’ve been having this exact same thought. I could’ve waited for RDR2 to come to steam. Not a bad problem to have.

I hadn’t even heard of this game until reading this thread, and now I can’t pull myself away from it.

I added the game to my Steam library and use the Steam overlay to display the frame rate and take screenshots.

Fun fact: If you bought the game from EGS, you can launch it without running the Epic game launcher, although you still presumably need the launcher to install patches.

You're already at the final mission? Did you get any sleep in the past two days?

And bummer about the crashes :(

I’ve been playing it throughout the weekend, and while I’m enjoying it, everything about it feels safe and familiar, in terms of open world game design, in terms of the writing and plot and story progression. It scratches an itch, but I know that I will forget ~99% of the game the moment I uninstall it.

I finished it. 24.5 hours played (I was off work Friday). Looking at the map there appears to be a planet I never had a quest send me to so I will be checking that out. With the exception of that planet I would call it a completionist playthrough. I did every side quest I found and basically checked every nook and cranny of pretty much every location.

It turns out the crash issue I was having is pretty common. I found two workarounds, one which impacts the story and another which didn't.

I can't speak authoritatively Freyland since I've gotten fairly decent at using a controller after being mouse/keyboard exclusive. What I can say, however, is that the combat is REALLY forgiving on Normal difficulty, so I can't imagine that you're going to have much trouble. Many enemies tend to rush you so you'll wind up hitting them at close range anyway. You've also got powerful melee combat options if that suits your style better.

I played a couple of hours last night with a controller on the PC and didn't really have any issues. I use a controller for all my shooters so I'm used to it. But again I didn't have any issues with BL3 and the controller. Right now my biggest issue is the lack of a deadzone adjustment for the left stick, but it is just a minor annoyance.

Two quick questions:

- Is there a way to respec later on? Or are you stuck with your first choice?
- What’s the level cap? Don’t want to overthink skill points if there will be plenty to go around throughout the game.

Yes, you can respec from the skill screen and it also respecs your companions. You CANNOT change your starting stats (str, int, dex, etc) just skill points and perk points.

Level cap appears to be 30. I was sitting at 30 with a full xp bar at the end of the game.

I only took one skill to 100 (long guns) a couple to 80 and most everything else 50 or 60 (put nothing at all into leadership or melee).

Also remember for planning that up to 50 points you are generally getting 3 for 1. Once a skill gets to 50 it goes down to 1 for 1.

For the heck of it I looked up my hours in FO NV on Steam...294 hours. I think that was my 2nd play through.
Yeah, man...I'm like at 140 and only through the first DLC. And, I haven't even gotten to Vegas.
Apparently I played 148 hours of FNV, which was one playthrough of the base game only.

I haven't played Outer Worlds, but watched a video or three. It reminds me of both FNV and Bioshock.

I've put in a couple of hours and so far it has been fun, but I'm finding that like with racing games, the Fallout type of game just doesn't appeal to me as much as it used to. Heck, I put in 140 hours on Fallout 4, but this game just isn't grabbing like F4 did. I think I'm just burned out on the looting system it uses.

Definitely not a long game and shows budget restraints, but it's still fun. Music is pure Firefly. Can't wait to see what they do with M$ money.

Ok, I'm not crazy. I was getting some major Bioshock vibes from it as well.

In a way I'm kind of glad it's fairly short so that I have a chance at finishing it before RDR2.

I like the art style but the character models are atrocious. I think 90% of my time in character creation was choosing between 50 shades of fugly.

Same here. Feels more like Bioshock than anything else to me.

Got through the first couple hours. I like it, but don’t love it yet. A couple minor gripes:

- I can’t help but feel like the way you pick up quests feels like it’s very easy to miss important things. I try talking to every NPC I see, but really have no idea whether I may have missed either a person or a specific dialog option that opens up a major quest.

- The PS4 load times are awful, especially when going back into the first main city...which you’re jumping in and out of constantly. A mini-map and visible quest objectives on the screen (so i didn’t have to sift through menus every 39 seconds) would be super helpful in this regard.

- While the town music is good (and very Firefly-ish), the world music feels like a complete mismatch. Sweeping orchestral pieces just don’t seem to fit the vibe of the game.

I'm sorry if this is known, but I saw that only "named" characters (i.e. not a Job Title, but like Elmer Blue) are the only ones that give out quests.

Someone mentioned it being a little short. How short are we talking? This looks good enough to warrant maybe a pickup at Christmas instead of waiting for it to go on sale in 2 years, but not if it's 20 hours long.

Almost done and only named characters have given quests. Also every named stand alone quest giver has been in engaged in some sort of unique action. So if you see an NPC acting weird or flagging you down, he's got a quest.

The quest giving system is pretty generous and I doubt you will miss many if you pay attention. In one instance I found a quest buried in a random computer terminal, but then another major quest NPC also sent me to the same person. So there is some redundancy built in as well.

I finished a completionist run in 25 hours, but I appear to do these things faster than most people so that squares with Lorini's 30 hours. Has anyone mentioned lately it's on GamePass (xbox and PC)?

I started up a game on normal on Friday but only played a few hours (i'm nowhere near Coop's ability to play 28 hours of a game within a 24 hour time period) with normal difficulty. The combat has been fairly easy so far. Should I bump it up to hard? Or is everyone just sticking with normal?

24.5 hours played in 66 hours isn't THAT bad. That's like 16 waking hours that I wasn't playing! I had a lunch with friends and saw a movie too!

I stuck with normal and I only died once the whole game. You should probably take it up a notch if you prefer a little challenge in your combat. Late game I would often kill a full camp of human enemies before my TTD ran out. I had all of the TTD extra time perks. There are some robot and creature enemies in the game that will be a real challenge on higher difficulties.

Being a superhero in combat was fun but I never resorted to it unnecessarily. The dialog is too much fun for that.

I've been sticking with Normal so far but I agree that Normal feels pretty easy at the moment. I've learned, though, that while the intellectual side of my brain enjoys triumphing over the challenge of harder difficulties, there's a larger part of my mind that just wants to feel like a superhero and watch bright colours go boom. I work enough during the day; I don't want making progress in a video game to feel like work, too.
