Command: Modern Operations (aka CMANO2)

Since the game is coming out soon I thought I'd start a new thread. Apologies if there is already one started, I might have missed it.

I've got it and I'm very impressed, most of all because all of the previous DLC and user-made content is compatible with the new engine.

Plus, as a current owner of CMANO, I got 50% off.

One note, though: the above images of inset windows showing 3-D action are only possible with the 3rd-party TacView program (a tool for flight-sim enthusiasts). It's a separate product with a separate price (something like $69 for the required Advanced version). I play without it, and I think they should advertise without it.

Thanks for posting any impressions, I'm busy with other stuff right now but I plan to get it sometime. And I agree with you about their use of TacView without mentioning it is a separate purchase.

They do mention it here and there (and I think at the point of sale), but the screenshots floating around aren't able to make the distinction.

Hmm, I don't think I would pay for the game then pay for another bit of $$ for software that shows me purple airplanes. Why can't they just do what Fleet Command did? Was perfect..

A review by The Wargamer of CMO.
Before starting this review I need to declare an interest. I’ve been playing naval wargames on computers since Harpoon appeared in 1989 (as long ago as that – I couldn’t believe it when I looked it up!) I bought CMANO when it first came out, at full price, and have never regretted it – I absolutely love the game. When I heard that a new version of CMANO, Command Modern Operations (CMO), was being released I was over the moon. I’ve now had a chance to play a review copy of the game and while I’m still excited about the new version, I’ve also a few niggles with it.

Fleet Command (and NWAC) lives and dies by its 3D graphics. CMO without Tacview's 3D is still a solid game on its own.

As an aside, WarfareSims does not get any percentage from Tacview sales (Tacview is developed & sold by Raia Software). We added support for Tacview on the commercial edition only because a lot of our users requested it.

We have been very clear about it in multiple references. Some examples:
http://www.warfaresims.com/?p=4948
http://www.warfaresims.com/?p=4975
https://www.matrixgames.com/game/comman ... operations (Tab "Features")
(paragraph "Features")

We understand that many people are puzzled (and some actively upset) about the separate purchase requirement, and we ourselves pushed very hard for a turn-key package deal, but sometimes things don't go the way you want them no matter how hard you try.

Oh, nothing against the devs or Matrix on this, it's nice they do have this add-on. I don't hold anything against them for it.

It's also nice that the discount you get if you previously owned CMANO extends until almost the end of January.

I picked this up back in January and sometime I'm going to gather up enough mental fortitude and do a deep dive into the gameplay.

Is this enough of an upgrade over CMANO to justify the price tag? I missed out on the 50% off deal so I'm a bit wary of spending that amount of cash if there haven't been significant improvements.

Thanks Dimitris. I will read through those but I'm always keen to hear what actual players think too. :)
