Total Annihilation: Good Buy?

Post by Bakhtosh »

I found Total Annihilation at Big Lots for $6. I bought it because I think it received good word of mouth here. Did I get a good deal?

Thanks.

Indubitably

I still play this from time to time, one of my favorite RTS's especially with all the extra units/maps you could download for free

Excellent game - my nephew was playing it this summer on his mom's Win2K box and it still worked fine.

I bought it and all it's expansions a couple years back for $19.99. Haven't played it yet, but, I still have fond memories of it.

God yes. Freakin' great game. Especially once you add in the ton of official downloadable content that got released for it.

TA is one of my favorite RTS's of all time. They kind of ruined with that abortion TA:Kingdoms (awful). But TA and the Core Contingency were big fun. I still play it occasionally.

And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

My apprehension at playing it again is due to graphics. Yes, I'm a graphics whore. I'm starting to finish Red Alert 2 right now and I'm having trouble making out the units.

T&A is great, and so is Total Annihilation. One of the best games of all-time. Too bad TA: Kingdoms was such a flop. :(

What would people pay for the TA Commander's Pack? Hmmm? I have a SEALED copy...

I think it still looks semi-decent, in fact.

Also, one of the coolest soundtracks ever. I actually bought an extra copy so I'd have a separate sound track CD. (the soundtrack was in CD Audio format on the disc)

I think the game still looks fine. Admittedly I'm not a graphics whore, but it still looked good to me the last time I played.

I beg to differ. The original Command & Conquer is the best.

The music for TA was Jeremy Soule's first game work, I think. He went on to do the music for a bunch of other games including Dungeon Siege and Dawn of War.

TA also gets my vote for best RTS ever. The cool part is Chris Taylor and GPG are working on a "sequel" as we speak.

What he said ...
"All I can ever think of when I see BBT is, "that guy f***ed Angelina Jolie? Seriously?" Then I wonder if Angelina ever wakes up in the middle of the night to find Brad Pitt in the shower, huddled in a corner furiously scrubbing at his d*** and going, 'I can't get the smell of Billy Bob off of this thing.'
