Dead Cells [PC, too]
I'm putting this in the Console forum because I'm playing on Switch, but this one's available for All the Platforms™. It's one that you should try.
Kind of a rogue-like meets Dark Souls meets Hollow Knight, but streamlined and super-duper fun.

I hope you get it.
Finally took out the first boss last night, and that opened up <spoiler redacted> mode. Neat!

Metroidvania is typically not my style of game at all, but I picked this one up after reading all the glowing feedback. Dead Cells is really well done, and very fun to play...even if I'm absolutely terrible at it.

I kept looking at picking it up, what with all of the positive press and forum effect. But the trailer scares me off every time as I know I would absolutely suck at it. Still on my 'maybe' list.

FWIW, it's fun even if you're bad (as I am). You don't need to make much progress on a run in order to turn in some cells toward permanent upgrades.

Don't let that scare you off. I'm absolutely terrible at these types of games, and am still having a blast.MonkeyFinger wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 11:59 am I kept looking at picking it up, what with all of the positive press and forum effect. Well, did pick this up on the PS4 and it is certainly is... different. Sheesh. Only had time to make it through the first area (think I died four times?) and not doing as badly as I thought I might but it's early yet.

Took 14 tries, but I finally got past the first boss. Woo hoo!

Took a quick look based on this thread.
Not sure what I was looking at. Not a fan of the visual style.
Obviously only a superficial impression.

Re: Dead Cells [PC, too]
So Zax, if I could only buy 1 game, should it be Dead Cells or Into the Breach?
I hear great things about Hollow Knight but then I watch a gameplay video and I'm like...uh...what's fun about that? I'm not opposed to 2d platformers and in fact like the idea, and I know they can be fun since I grew up with them, but they don't translate well to video.

They're very different games. If I had to pick one, Into the Breach. It's cheaper and has held up for dozens of hours for me.

It's deep in its own way, but I haven't played enough to say it's as long-lived as ItB. May well be.

Re: Dead Cells [PC, too]
I've picked up both. After a couple hours, Into the Breach hasn't done much for me, and I much prefer Dead Cells. And I'm typically much more of a strategy guy than an action gamer.
I think a lot of it is the setting, tbh. Futuristic sci-fi is just 'meh', while I love the dark fantasy aesthetic of Dead Cells.
