It seems to me that this filter process is pretty much exactly the same principle as the "3 strip" color process used by Technicolor in the 1930s for movies like Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz, etc. Break down 3 primary colors (RGB or cyan magenta yellow or whatever they are, dunno if it's additive or subtractive or all that color-theory hoo-ha), shoot the film through each of them, then combine the 3 colors in projection/printing to get the mixture.
The principle is quite sound, dunno about the details etc.
