New one from The Ocean is a monster track.

This fall is going to destroy my music budget.

More of the good stuff I discovered in the 30 tabs....

Persefone - Prison Skin (2017), progressive melodeath

Soilwork - Stålfågel (2019), melodeath

Black Sites - To the Fire (2019), heavy/progressive metal

Havok - Point of No Return (2012), thrash

I'm deep into the emo cave now; not sure I'm coming out any time soon. This song still slaps.

Been listening to a ton of Enslaved lately. Three years ago, I would listen to RIITIIR every single day as I would drive back and forth to Hunstman Cancer Institute for dad's cancer treatments. Always makes me think of him.

When done right, folk metal is such a blast. Finntroll always does it right, and today's new album is no exception.

Not sure if it's the change in weather today (so crisp and cool), but this album always reminds me of Fall/Winter. It's hitting the spot today, even from deep inside the emo cave.

So.... is there a reason that working on the moon requires a purple wig? I feel like they kind of glossed over that.

Give me one valid reason why a purple wig won't help you on the moon!!! No? You can't? THEN IT HELPS!

<GUITAR SOLO!>

obviously i'm bored at work right now....

1980 How do I not remember this show existed? How early in the 70s was it? 1980 Also, I more figured you for the seriously open mesh shirt guy. How come only men wear them in that in that trailer? 1980

The important takeaway is that everything sounds good with Peter Solowka's jangly guitar work.

...oh, and that UFO was just batshit insane for its time.

Addendum: researching Solowka’s follow up band The Ukrainians lead me to this gem. Motörhead’s Ace of Spades a la a British Ukrainian folk band.

On this morning's run/walk, I spent the first half of it listening to the new HEATHEN album! I was delighted when Spotify told me this had come out since I had no idea it was coming.

So, Bill Fisher of Church of the Cosmic Skull has a solo album.

It differentiates itself from Church with a hard rock edge. The single, Celador, is fantastic and the video is equal parts silly, creepy, and techinically impressive... it's a single shot, lip-synched in reverse, and they used the first take:

But the whole thing is great. And at eight tracks/29 minutes it's surprisingly substantial. The Dark Triad is another highlight. Or to demonstrate the harder, progressive sound, Psychopathy. Speaking of The Sword, if you liked their mellower last two albums I think you'll like this a lot. But there's obviously decades of music that inspire it.

Thanks for the heads-up, this one had slipped my radar.

I'm not a big Manson fan, but I've always liked the mellower stuff from Mechanical Animals and can't deny the band's hits are catchy. The new album is really good, and reminds me of some of the tracks from that disc.

I friggin' love Idles. They made it into my regular rotation after a brief revival my playlists had with recent English "pub rock" (along with Hotel Lux), thanks to Peaky Blinders.

The new Ayreon album released today. I will probably not check it out until tomorrow. I am still wrapping my head around the unlikely convergence of Ayreon and TOM BAKER~!... Looking forward to checking this out!

The new Anaal Nathrakh album is making a very strong push for 2020 Album of the Year. It's far better than I was expecting, and is an absolutely brutal slice of nihilistic insanity. "Endarkenment" has definitely jumped in the lead for my favorite song of this year.

I'm less excited about the new Enslaved album. After a couple listens, it's hasn't really grabbed me. It took me a bit to come around to "E" also, so it could be a slow burn album. Hoping so.

Hulkoff, the gruff, pounding, folk/power metal solo project of Swedish industrial metal band Raubtier's Pär Hulkoff, has a new album: Pansarfolk. Both Swedish and English versions were recorded. It picks up where 2017's SVEN left off. It's still stompy, full of thrashy guitars, growly (clean) vocals, and exaltations of Norse deities. Listening to this record feels like sitting around a campfire with a tribe of barbarians. However, the folk instrumentations on this album feel a little more complex; there's less heavy metal guitar (but still tons of thrashy rhythm). And there's more contrast between heavy and light sections and songs. But it's still very poppy and accessible, in a good way.

Lankum - The Livelong Day

they do for trad folk in the 2010s what Steeleye Span did in the 1970s

(and i did not know the forum software now supported Bandcamp live-linking...)

also highly recommend the amazing group The Gloaming

My goal for the next few weeks is to work my way through Loudwire's "Best Death Metal Album of Each Year Since 1985" list. There's a few inclusions that I would strongly disagree with, but it's a solid list overall.

Found that I only own 15 of the 34 albums they listed. I kinda assumed that number would be higher.

Has this been posted? Search doesn't find it but it wont if its just the video posted itself. Going to start trying to remember to type the band or title with the post.

Makes me think about American Indians and how some of their traditional music would sound like this. Like Redbone sounded int he 70s. So different yet very ethnic too.

The new Hellripper album is a blast. Blackened thrash with a good bit of rockabilly turns out to be a fantastic mix. Reminds me a lot of Chance-era Skeletonwitch, but more fun.

Feeling a little blue today and this song encapsulates it nicely. Cleaner, also known as Cleen and Clear Vision during different phases of the project, is a Haujobb side project. This release, Solaris, came out in 2000. I picked it up at a used CD shop on a family roadtrip to Ottawa. I had no knowledge of the group; I just bought it because of the Metropolis Records logo on the back. This track was a favourite, though I haven't heard it in years and it doesn't seem to be available on streaming platforms:
