Deadwood
Deadwood is starting to get good again. Even though nobody's been killed lately there is a lot of tension and you know something big is going to happen. Before these last few episodes everything seemed to drag on forever, but I've recently been given hope that the show will be good.

This last episode was freakin' awesome. You can really see that the pot is starting to boil.
If Ian McShane doesn't get some type of award-nod for his role on this series, it'd be a damn shame. He is fantastic to watch.
I also enjoyed the various comments that were made by the characters regarding the way they were talking (i.e. slow and drawn out). I felt it was a jab at the show's critics.

I still haven't finished watching the second season. Watching 3 or for episodes a day really burns you out after a while. 2 more disks to go and then I can get on demand for a month to catch up.
Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.

Season 3 has been awesome so far. I can't wait to see what is going to happen with the General and Dan. Those two are heading for a big fight very soon.McNutt wrote:Deadwood is starting to get good again. 3 is as good as season 1 so far. I can't help but think when watching it what a shame it is this is the last season.
For motivation and so Jeff V can make me look bad:

I'm a bit worried about Al, though. Hope he pulls his shit together, and soon.

I agree, and I think Gerald McRaney was a great choice for Hurst as well.hepcat wrote:adding brian cox to the mix was inspired. that guy could read the phone book and i'd sit there entertained.
In fact, the only character I hate is Trixie and the couple of times when she and Jane had a conversation it was like nails on a chalkboard.
I used to feel the same way about Jane until I saw her get through a whole scene without a "fuck" or a "cocksucker".

Season 3 has gotten better every episode. This last episode gives a bit more insight into Al's character and adds some dimension. I love the tension they're building as well as how they're showing the small bits of Seth and Martha's relationship. The only dissappointing thing about the show is that it will be over so quickly.
That sound of the spoon scraping over the can ribbing as you corral the last ravioli or two is the signal that a great treat is coming. It's the washboard solo in God's own

My side trip to Calgary as sunk so I will have two weeks in Regina, I'm thinking of maybe going for 3 days and driving down to Deadwood and/or Sturgis. Anyone been to either? Recommendations?
edit: FUCK! Aug 7th to 13th is the sturgis rally and I would be in the area July 29th, missing it by one weekend, fuck! Still recommendations for either would be nice

And I guess I was being dense, but someone just pointed out to me that each episode of Deadwood is a single day. Never noticed that before...

I didn't either until I was reading an interview with the series creator and he mentioned in.hentzau wrote:And I guess I was being dense, but someone just pointed out to me that each episode of Deadwood is a single day. Never noticed that before...

Alright, tell me this though...
Is AL going to kill that fooker or what? Sorry, but, I never expected someone to cut off Al's finger with a hammer and live through two episodes. I would have figured them to be turned into pig shit by now.
And now it looks like he is going to ride off into the sunset? Tell me it aint so....
I want Al to send Dan over there to straighten things out with that dude and his bodyguard...
Is it me, or were the inhabitants of the gem just a hell of alot more cut throat in the first season or two?
Love Deadwood, much welcomes after this years "sopranos" season..

The thing you have to know about Al is that he's one cold motherfucker. But he's smart - and pretty calculated with what he does. Before the other casino set up shop, he was THE driving force in Deadwood. Now with Hearst in town, he's not the all-powerful influence he once was. Hearst is no joke. What I don't know is whether or not he actually fears Al -- I think he must if he's trying to intimidate him so much.
I suspect that Hearst is going to run afoul of the law and he won't be able to stand up to both Al and Bullock. I don't know the history of the town well enough to say what will happen, but I'm guesing their will be bloodshed.
If you watch the previews, you'll know what's coming for Dan. Suffice to say, his "discussion" with Hearst's head goon is going to come to fruition.

I dont watch previews, good good, hope Dan puts him down..
I understand hearst is a bad ass, but he is still a human.... With little to no one guarding him.
I am just saying , in season one, Al was not beyound murder, killing off hoople heads for a dollar, whatever... Black hearted, cold..
And now, some guy across the street whacked off his finger 2 episodes ago, and is still breathing...
But, I have high hopes, cause Al seems so upset about it that he cant get off sexually, hah... I dont want hearst leaving deadwood alive for what he has done. And I want AL to be the one to do it, preferably with the knife.

It's just hard to realize from the show that Hearst is probably one of the most poweful men in the American West at this point. His wealth and influence are unparalleled. He has guards with him, but his reputation alone keeps him safe. No one would be crazy enough to launch an direct assault on him.Morgul wrote: I understand hearst is a bad ass, but he is still a human.... With little to no one guarding him.

SPOILERS
Good God that fight was unbelievable. Even the preparations for the fight had me getting pumped. Do not fuck with Dan.
So is Ellsworth gay? I thought Alma said something on a previous episode that made me think they were having sex. Apparently not.
I've never understood why Al doesn't just kill Hearst. Bullock wouldn't arrest him. What does Al gain by letting him live?
I thought the black guy was going to kill Steve. I didn't see him killing himself. That was odd.
Great episode. Glad to see the show getting back into the swing of things.

What was the big deal with the board?
And I assumed Ellsworth knew she was using again, that's why he left. No?

I have a feeling Hurst purposely tried to get arrested. He knows his bodyguard was just pwned, he knows Al has got him by the balls and can kill him at will now, and knows the only safe place is in prison, protected by Bullock and Charlie.
This gives him time to reload and get ready.
Great episode. Love the show!

I think he was actually trying to screw the horse. Steve was paranoid that they'd leave town and show everybody that he had signed a confession stating that he screwed a horse.Pharaoh wrote:The chalkboard was when they caught him jerking off on a horse or something and made him sign that they caught him doing it.
It seemed like more than that to me. He's a pretty strong-willed person and if she were using he'd probably go off on her. He seemed embarrassed about not putting it to her when she wanted it. Considering the situation I figured he must have been gay.Lee wrote:And I assumed Ellsworth knew she was using again, that's why he left. No?

I more had a sense that it was because he realized she wasn't her self. If he goes off on her, he's out of a nice house, and although he's not the most materialistic guy, it's still nicer to live where he is then in the shitpit somewhere else. So he took himself away from the situation as nicely as he could manage.

I always thought he secretely hoped for it but never thought it would happen. So when she advanced he took a breath and realized what wa shappening and what her condition was. I could be wrong but that's how I saw it.McNutt wrote:She is his wife. I figured he's expect it eventually.

My wife, who against all logic loves this show, had to cover her eyes during the fight.

Nevermind do you think. Yes you can, as long as the optic nerve is attached.telcta wrote:That got me thinking... excrutiating pain aside, do you think you could see out of an eyeball dangling from the optic nerve?
Oh, and an eye cannot dangle that low while still attached, yet we could still see the nerve so I guess they did make way for the oldest gore trick in the book and said fuck realism At most, your eye would rest again your lower lid, it doesn't dangle any further.
