Has anybody read Youth In Revolt?

Post by Fishy »

The book thread got me thinking. Has anyone here ever read Youth In Revolt by C. D. Payne? I read that about a year ago and found it hilarious. It was one of those books you just gotta keep reading. Anyway, just seeing if anyone else has read it.

Yeah, I read it.

Guilty pleasure. Like Confederacy of Dunces with some real lapses of narrative voice and a libidinousness that sort of makes you wonder if the author's a pedophile.

Still, it made me laugh. The novel equivalent of potato chips: lots of instant gratification, just don't make a steady diet of it.

If you want a trilogy of books that reminds me a *lot* of YIR, but are written much better, and still manage plenty of laughs (and some very real, very sad moments as well) check out Tim Sandlin's GroVont books: Skipped Parts, Sorrow Floats, and Social Blunders. Great stuff, it follows teenaged Sam Callahan into adulthood, with some fantastic characters and memorable dialogue. Anyone who liked YIR will love these three.
