Correct.
Posting any of the male leads would have given it away in short order.

Re: Name that movie....(possible 56K warning)
My only thought was that it was one of the Django movies. I only recently discovered that apparently there were a bunch of them. I didn't even realize that Django Unchained had a lineage. However, since I have never seen any of them, I have no idea which one it might be. Or whether I'm completely off base.

Wow. That's like the 4th stump since summer started.
I vote Isg. I took one recently. (And I don't have any ideas right now.)

Ok, this should be easy. At least this one, unlike the last, has a Wikipedia entry.

Eww, eww, Peter MacNicol worst casting of all time can't stand it.
I have but one advocate.

Dragonslayer it is.
I thought MacNicol was perfectly cast in the movie. The character was supposed to be someone people would not respect due to his poor status and lack of charisma.

Re: Name that movie....(possible 56K warning)
I get that, but it was like watching Richard Simmons play Conan. At that point you need to reel it back in and try again.
I also don't like Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, for roughly the same reasons. I like some subtlety in my "art".
The only way it could be worse would be if someone tried casting Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker just because Darth Vader must have been a brat.

Re: Name that movie....(possible 56K warning)
I see what you mean, but I don't agree with the comparison to Conan or Darth Vader (even though I know you were joking). The wizard's assistant is not supposed to be a tough guy. He's not even ever supposed to grow into a tough guy. He might become some wise old dude decades from now, but that's all he can hope for. However if the actor just grates on you, much like Jim Carrey grates on me, then it goes beyond just being a character issue.
Damn, now I sound like some art professor trying to tell you why you should like something.

Re: Name that movie....(possible 56K warning)
Maybe I just have trouble with the whole trope. I became a little more aware of it last night as I was rewatching Bastian in The NeverEnding Story. I already know I grew up as a weak, unpopular kid who watched and read fantasy as an escape. Is this movie for me, or about me for other people to watch? It's a part I don't need to be told so heavy-handedly, like Big Bang Theory telling people that nerds say nerdy things. I suspect the same mentality that drives reality TV, appealing to an audience who think they could do better, has actually driven TV and movie producers for the entire last 40 years at least. It takes a more delicate touch to pull it off well.
Same problem, again made worse by casting: The Forbidden Kingdom.

I very much glossed over that though because, dragons and glowing crystals and I'm eleven.

Re: Name that movie....(possible 56K warning)
I just watched House of the Dead II on Saturday so that's why Sid's mug and name were fresh in my mind. Otherwise, I would have been going, "I know that guy. I've seen him in tons of stuff. What was his name again?"
How was Bone Tomahawk? I've not seen it. Is it worth dropping into my Netflix queue?

Amazon Prime since it's not available via Netflix Instant.Brian wrote:How was Bone Tomahawk? I've not seen it. Is it worth dropping into my Netflix queue?
I liked it but had to look away at some of the more gruesome scenes.

Re: Name that movie....(possible 56K warning)
Bone Tomahawk is a bit of a slow burn. The dialog is the real star of the film, and the action doesn't really come until the last 20 minutes or so. But I thought it was a fantastic film.

Re: Name that movie....(possible 56K warning)
Based on the trailer, I'd say you are correct.
That looks really interesting. I know I can generally count on Brian to post something that I've never heard of. But usually it's some B horror type film that I probably don't want to see [/shudder]. But this one looks very interesting...

You know what has never gotten a proper film treatment? Lovecraft's rom-coms. Someone really needs to make a movie where Meg Ryan and Yog-Sothoth "meet cute".hepcat wrote:I watched it last fall on Amazon Prime and really enjoyed it. It's like a love story written by H.P. Lovecraft.
